Chapter 8 - Solo Dungeon Quest

I made my way hello from the basement and back into the light of the upper area.

"You have been approved as a member of the Adventurous guild, so you should have your grade on your identification card." Well as far as the gentleman that was behind the desk said to me as I made it back to the front of it.

Then I looked at my ID card that displayed that I was going to start as a silver-ranked adventurer.

"Since you are a silver rank you will be able to go to the boards for silver, bronze, and copper adventures". He said to me as he looked at my ID card. "Oh yes, I forgot to tell you that if you have a party of at least three members or more, you can take on stuff one grade higher than your current rank, but if you fail those missions, there will be a penalty. I just thought you would want to know that".

I nodded at him so that he knew that I acknowledged what he had just said before making my way over to the request boards that were all against the right wall of the building.

The board with the most options available to me was mostly bronze. Since I wanted decent money to get started in this new life I chose to ignore that grade and go straight for the silver-ranked missions.

There were only three missions available at this time of that rank.

The very first mission type that was available to me was a simple bodyguard assignment. I was to escort the family of a human duke from this town to the driven capital city.

My second option was to go over to a dungeon that is on an island and kill the creatures within.

If I choose to take this quest I get to keep any rare items that are obtained on this Mission as long as the adventurous guild gets to keep twenty percent of the profits that can be made out of the dungeons of this world.

Now my final mission available to me was to go to a very dangerous area of the dark Forest and gather about thirty of this rare mushroom.

After examining all of my options I chose to go with the second quest because I thought that it might lead to the most profit.

"I want to take this quest" I sent to the man at the front desk as I put the piece of paper in front of him.

"I hope that you understand this quest is going to be quite difficult to complete without a party. This is because all the major dungeons of this region are located on an island that everyone has nicknamed Dungeon Island.

If I can give you a piece of advice I would recommend that you find a party to join before doing this one".

"Are you recommending this to me because I am an unknown adventurer, or is it because you do not think I can handle the massive amounts of moms on my own?"

"The main reason why I want to ask that you join a party is that it makes things a lot easier to survive when you're not on your own".

Even though what he said made sense I did not know who I could truly trust in this new life. So I decided that if I was going to make a name for myself I would do it alone.

"I acknowledge your concern, but I believe that I can do this on my own". A coworker said to me.

After that, I walked out of the adventures guild and made my way over to one of the guards who was standing at the center of the three-way crossroad in front of me.

"Yes, citizen how may I help you?" He asked me as I approached him.

"Yes, sir, I need to find the town dock area so that I can get to an island to complete a job. Would you be able to tell me where this area of the city was located?".

"The docks of the town are located on the southern port. Since this tells me that you are new to this city I recommend that you be careful. There have been many people getting robbed and valuables of them disappeared while at the docks at night time.

The reason he said this to me was that the sun was starting to set from the world, and the sky began to slowly dim and show a bold orangish red color that took my breath away as I looked up at the beauty of the sky.

"I will keep that in mind while I'm at the docks tonight". I said to him as I walked down the road to his left and towards the docks.

The sky changed from red to almost entirely dark when I made it to the docks. This area was a lot more lively than the main street had been when I had first entered the town.

I noticed that there was a set of shops on the coast that had a variety of fish, oils, and other useful items on sale.

The waterfront was quite active due to the shops and the variety of different vessels docking and undocking in the port.

There were workers carrying supplies from the ships to the stores just like an assembly line from a factory on Earth. I was amazed at how efficient they seem to work despite their lack of technology.

I made my way to one of the vessels that did not have a passenger on it and was stopped by a tall and skinny female human. He had an eye patch covering her left eye. I noticed that she also wore simple leather clothing, and behind her, I saw a pair of axes.

"What are you doing on my vessel. If you are here to try to steal something from me I want to remind you that I am an expert fighter". She said as she pulled out her axes and pointed them at my neck.

"No you have it all wrong; I am here to see if you can take me to the dungeon island. I have to complete a request sent to the adventurer's guild".

"Is that all that you need from me. If that is truly all that you require from me; then I will gladly take you there as long as you pay me for my services when the job is done". She then took her axes off of my neck and put them back into their sheets on her back.

I didn't catch my breath because I was surprised and how fast she reacted to me walking onto a ship.

"I am sorry for appearing hostile to you. I did it because of how many times I have seen other captains get their hauls stolen or pilfered from by the most common-looking people".

After the captain spoke, I boarded her ship, and we sailed off to the dungeon Island.

As the ship began to move further away from the human imperial City of White Falls I was able to smell the salt of the ocean and it was quite an amazing scent to me as it came into contact with my nose because I had not ever seen the ocean or went anywhere near it when I was on Earth.

It only took about three hours to arrive at the island, and when I did, I noticed that there were a variety of other adventurers on it, either slang creatures or entering the mini-dungeons that were on the island.

The port where the captain docked her vessel was pulled up with a variety of different lanterns and lamp posts that made it hard to see more than about ten feet in front of me.

"I will wait for you here for up to one day. If you do not make it back within one day I will leave you here, and you will have to find your way back".

This meant that I did not have time to goof around. The most important thing would be to get this Mission done quickly and efficiently.

Will this dungeon lead me to greater fortune or possibly become my graveyard? The uncertainty of what was to come filled me with excitement as well as a little bit of terror.
