Chapter 11 - The Massive Door

"Doctor, we need to begin his surgery immediately. If we do not do this quickly, he will die". One of the female surgeons said to me.

My name is Saul, and I am a surgeon who specializes in neurosurgery and chemistry.

I wrote a variety of papers in my life explaining my theories behind the fact that someone's mind could be redesigned in such a way that it changes their behavior.

The man that I was about to operate on was a criminal. He had been convicted of murdering twenty-eight females and also convicted of raping over eighty of those females.

In the state that he was accused it has been illegalized to give someone the death penalty; due to this, it has been decided that I should operate on his brain to test my theories.

If I succeed he will be a well-mannered citizen, but the government said that they will be watching over him just to see any sudden changes that might occur to him in this new life that he should be offered.

The room that I was operating in looked just like any other standard operating room, but this time there was a pair of policemen with guns standing guard over the room just in case.

"Now I need to count on loud for me, and close your eyes". I said to the patient as I put the mask over his face that was admitting the gas that would cause him to shortly pass out for up to four hours.

"One ... Two ...the....". He said to me before passing out.

As soon as he passed out, the heart rate monitor lowered as it should, but before I could begin the operating process, I saw his right hand move towards the tableware where we had all of the surgical tools.

I was not able to react fast enough, and I got stabbed in the throat with one of the tools.

The area around me started to go black, and I knew that my life was now officially over. I truly wondered who it would be that would take over as the head of my field, and if I could have another chance in life what would I do with it this time?

Do not worry yourself. You have been selected as a heroic candidate for The Reincarnation Protocol program.

You will be transported from Earth to an entirely new world that is unlike the place you know in almost every way.

What was that voice that I heard? Also, what was this Reincarnation Protocol Program that it spoke of, and did it hear my request to have another chance at life?

I woke up and noticed that I was no longer in my operating room. Instead, I was all alone in a cubicle, sure that it was entirely white.

The only thing that I could see was a menu in front of me that read if I wanted to accept The Reincarnation Protocol Program.

I chose to ignore the menu and locked board, but no matter how much I wanted the area behind me seemed to disappear and reappear in front of me as if I was walking in an infinite loop.

"Since this is the only thing that I can do I suppose that I will be accepting this program".

As soon as I activated the program I saw a blue projection of what looked like a nurse show up in front of me.

"Hello there Saul. I am the AI that spared your soul before it disappeared".

"What is this reincarnation protocol program?" I asked since I knew that I would need information about what it was that I had been thrown into.

"It is a chance to live again in another world. That is all of the information about that topic that I have in my data banks".

"Okay, if that is the case, then why was I chosen?".

"I chose to spare your soul because of your intelligence. I honestly believed that someone with your intelligence should deserve a second life".

"Okay is there anything different about this life?"

"Yes, in this new world that you are going to, you will have access to magic as long as you do not choose to become a race that does not possess such an ability".

"Wait what do you mean by choosing a race? Does this mean that I don't have to be human in my new life if I do not want to?"

"Yes that would be correct"

"Let me see the variety of racial options available to me then". I said to her with a lot of purpose behind each one of those words.

I then saw a variety of screens that showed information about a large amount of races that I could choose between. After examining the screens I chose to go with Dragonborn.

In this world dragonborns were human and dragon hybrids. The information available to me told me that if I was a part of this species I would have the ability to turn myself into a dragon, but that would only come to me with training.

After I selected that race a new screen showed up displaying a large amount of different dragonborn.

"Just so you know, the reason why you have to choose a specific type of Dragonborn is that it would determine your element as well as what kind of dragon your parent was." The AI said to me as soon as I was looking at my current screen.

I decided to go with a frost dragon because it would give me an affinity with ice, and I could use ice as a means to help others around me.

"Now that you have chosen your species; the next thing that you must do is select what kind of dragonborn you want to be".

"What do you mean by the type of Dragonborn? I thought that I had already chosen that".

"Let me re-explain. I meant to say what class of person you want to become".

"I would not prefer to be insanely violent; so whichever one you think would be the best to fit that criteria". I said to the AI because I still follow my medical vows to not harm people unless I don't have a choice.

"Then I recommend that you choose to be a monk. As a monk, you would have to take a vow of restraint.

In this battle of restraint, you will only be allowed to use your fists, or a simple staff as a weapon. Also, you will not be allowed to harm anyone unless it is to protect someone.

The drawback to something like this is that if you break your vowel you will become a corrupted one".

The thought of becoming a corrupted one did not seem good, but I knew that I would uphold my vows.

"The final thing that I need you to choose is a name for yourself in this new life. I do recommend that you do not use your Earth name just in case you run into anyone else from your world since you are not the only candidate for The Reincarnation Protocol Program".

"My name will be Logan Frost".

"All right, then, you will be teleported to a temple where you are going to train so that you can gain mastery over your own body's KI and the element of frost that you have been gifted with as the child of an ice dragon.

Enjoy this life you have been given Logan Frost"

As soon as the AI finished speaking to me, the area that I was in was entirely white.

The new area around me was a temple door that was at an insane level of altitude. I put my hand around my neck, thinking I was about to lose all of my air, but I was perfectly fine. This must be due to the half of my blood that was a dragon.

I noticed that my hair was a bold dark red color, and my skin was a white pigment.

Somehow despite how pale my skin looked, it did not feel as if I was dehydrated or not well-maintained.

The massive door was at least thirty feet in height, and it covered the entire pathway. There was no other way up the mountain but through the door.

This door was made out of a very heavy-duty oak, and I knew that it would not be too open.

"You must open the store with your power alone. If you cannot do this then you are not worthy of being trained by the Masters". I heard a very deep voice say to me from the other side of the massive door.

I tried to open with my bare hands, but as I pushed at the door it did not budge even one bit.

Then I chose to take in a deep breath, and as I exhaled a stream of frost breath came up out of my mouth.

The door budged about three inches before it closed.

That told me that I was doing something right, but the frost breath that I inherited from my father was not going to open the door.

As I thought about what it was that budged the door a short distance; I hypothesized that the fact that I controlled my breathing possibly played a role in the movement of the door.

This time, I chose to take in a deep breath, and as I exhaled, instead of pushing my energy through my mouth to cause my inherent frost breath to activate, I chose to release the stored energy through my right palm as soon as I made contact with the door.

As it opened wide enough for me to get inside, and I dashed through the opening I had created.

"Good work. This tells me that you are a fast study.

The Masters will be willing to train you now for the use of your KI. If you have any elemental affinities you will be able to master them by the end of your training". The monk who was on the opposing side of the massive door.

This monk was entirely bald, and he wore a simple set of clothing that seemed to allow his body to move around freely.

I followed him up to the top of the mountain so that I could meet these Masters who were supposed to help me train in the use of my Ki.
