Chapter 9 - Spoiled Prince Benyail

"it seems that you have been battle-tested so you have now officially become a member of the dwarven city guard. You must always remember to protect the people of this town, and when you see unjust things being done remember that only a coward would hide and allow it to occur.

You also seem to have gotten your armor repaired from the mission that I sent you on to attack the goblin nest. That is good because I have something special for you to do. It is a bodyguard assignment.

We have been requested to guide Prince Benyail to the human imperial capital city of White Falls". The captain of the Dwarven City guard said to me.

"I think that I will take this job". I said with a lot of excitement in my voice because I wanted to be able to explore more of the world that I had been introduced to, and possibly find other isakais from Earth. If I was not alone in this world, then it would make everything even better because they would understand what it is like to be in a new world just as I do.

"Good because he is waiting outside of the city.

Just so you know, this Prince has been considered to be a lot to handle, unlike his older siblings". The captain said to me with a sad look on his face as if he wanted to say more but due to the prince's status, he could not say anymore.

I truly wondered if what I had heard about this third Prince of the Dwarves was accurate or not. Either way, I was going to find out the truth about him on this mission because they say that someone's true nature is revealed when their life is on the line.

I left the guard house and then headed to the southern gate of the city. When I made it to the gate I noticed that there was a black carriage that was drawn by a pair of drakes with scales that seemed to almost shine as the sunlight made contact with them.

"When is he going to get here! I have places to be; does he not know who I am. Also, if you cannot defend me and serve as my shield, I do not want him because that would make him a pathetic dwarf". A very short dwarf who was also quite stubby said in an upset tone to one of his guards as I began to get within ten feet of him.

"My third Prince, I am sure that he will show up soon, and remember that your father sent in a request with one of the town guards." A soldier who was wearing silver armor said in a voice that told me this Prince was going to be very hard to work with.

Even so, I needed to think about my new family; as the eldest of my house, I had to do whatever it took to not soil the family name because my ancestors would always be watching me from the earth.

"Hello, I am here to escort the third prince to the human imperial city of White Falls". I said to the soldier as I bowed to the prince as though I had never seen him before.

"I am glad that you are here sir....." The guard said to me.

"Oh forgive me; where are my manners. I am Giltrude of the house of Digore". I told both of them as my body automatically did a bow by making a quarter circle with my right hand and lowering my body forty-five degrees forward.

Whenever I mentioned my family name I noticed that the prince turned his head and ignored it as if it did not have any meaning to him.

"Come on; I have a schedule to keep. You can arrogantly show off your rank and family name some other time." Prince Benyail said angrily to me.

"I am glad to meet you, Giltrude, of the house of Digore. Also I should ask you to forgive the prince's impatience". The soldier said to me politely as he returned my bow and got into the driver's seat of the carriage.

"Hurry up, Giltrude of whatever; if you do not get into the carriage right now, I will leave you behind and not even think about it twice."

I quickly got in the carriage and made sure not to look at Prince Benyail for more than a few seconds at a time on the journey because he looked angry every time I glanced at him.

When we were about halfway to our destination, I noticed that there were a few trees with broken limbs, as if they had been arrested for a long period.

I then tapped my left knuckle against the wall behind me so that the soldier would notice to stop the carriage.

"What are you doing? You are here to protect me, and be my shield!" The prince exclaimed to me as soon as I opened the door and started to step out.

"You do your job, and I will do mine". I said to him as I pulled my greatsword out of it sheath that was resting on my back.

I then turned out everything else that he said to me because I needed to focus all of my attention on the fight that was about to occur.

"What is it? I do not see anything". The soldier said to me as I walked past him.

"Just protect the prince. I will slay these enemies.

You can come out now. There is no point in hiding in the forest. I know that you are here". I said as I pointed my greatsword toward one of the sets of broken branches to my right.

As soon as I spoke I saw a group of ten creatures that had dark green skin, and each had a variety of different designed horns growing out of the top of their bald heads. These creatures looked a lot like orcs.

They even wore metal armor except for two of them that instead were dark red robes which meant that they were a magical user of some kind.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but are each of you a member of the orc species?"I asked them as I grinned out of excitement at the fact that I might have been correct.

"You would be correct, and we are here to stop this dwarven Prince from establishing portals between the human and dwarven empires at any cost". The orc that was the leader of the group said to me as he pointed both of his curved swords toward me.

He rushed at me and tried to swing his swords at me, but I was able to successfully block at the right time. When he did this, I knew that my timing was barely right, and if I had been even half of a second slower, I would have probably lost my head.

As soon as I successfully blocked the attack I stepped back and slightly dodged the pair of daggers that was lunging at me from my left.

After that, I used the opening they had given me to swing my sword in a circular motion that chopped the orc assassin's body into a bunch of tiny pieces.

Two of the orc soldiers made it past me and tried to attack the prince, but the guard successfully beheaded both of them before they could reach their target.

"I will put my life on the line to protect the third prince of my people".

I focused on the leader, who tried to lunge at me again, but this time, I sidestepped to the left instead of trying to time my block right.

As he was being carried by his momentum I lunged my greatsword behind me and got a clean stab in the back that caused him to become paralyzed.

The mages started to chant, but before they could finish their sentence I quickly lunged at them and severed their arms so that they could no longer cast any magic.

Before I was able to completely separate both of their arms, a fireball rushed past me, and it ended up rushing toward the guard's gut.

I made my way over to the guard and tried to stop the bleeding, but I was not able to slow it down enough.

He looked up at me and began to slowly speak.

"This mission is now for you to complete while I say hello to my ancestors. I hope that they will be proud of what I have tried to achieve in this very short life that I have been given".

"I will complete this Mission and remember you're great sacrifice as a soldier of the people," I said to him as I closed his eyes.

"Why are you making a promise to a soldier? They exist to be shields for the wealthy. Only by dying would he fulfill his purpose entirely". The prince said to me as he got out of the carriage and did not even acknowledge the corpse that was beneath the both of us.

Whenever he said that I snapped and let go of my restraint.

I pinned him to the carriage and hit him across the face with the back of my right hand, and after that, I lunged the butt of my greatsword into his gut.

He then fell in front of me.

"How dare you hit me. You are a filthy commoner, and not even worth being recognized in the archives since you have not achieved anything with your life yet". He said to me angrily as he tried to get back up onto his feet.

I did not allow this by kicking his chest in with the bottom of my boot and pinning him to the ground.

"You will listen to me now. Status is not the most important thing in life. With the life you have been given you should be driven to leave an impact on the world despite your challenges and difficulties.

If you cannot acknowledge that this soldier gave his life to protect you despite your whiny and arrogant attitude towards everyone else; then I say you are not worthy of your rank.

You must understand that everything in life that is worth receiving is earned.

If you want respect earn it instead of throwing around your family name just to get what you want.

Your father would be ashamed of such an act".

As soon as I finished talking to him I released my boot from his chest and then made my way over to the orc leader and started to punch the ground around him so that he knew I was not afraid to harm him to get what I needed.

"You will tell me why you wanted to attack us before we reached our destination, or I will introduce you to new methods of pain".

"I do not talk to dwarves about the plan of our commander".

He then chose not to speak to me even while I was pummeling him to pieces. In the end, before he died the only information I got out of him was his commander's name. This commander was named Zog.
