The mother and son left the big Kang mansion behind, dragging their suitcases behind their sorry asses.
The pitiful sight could easily make ordinary people's eyes water from simpathy.
But once people drew closer, all their tender feelings quickly evaporated, leaving no traces behind.
"So," Song Zhenxin sighed. "This is rather unexpected. Weiwei is so smart. If not for you, Mommy would have lost a lot of money indeed."
Kang Yuanwei tightened his grip around his mother's hand.
"I did it for the both of us," he mumbled. "We don't want scumbag Daddy to take half of our company away."
Five years ago, inspired by her son's birth, Song Zhenxin secretly started a children toy-making company. Two years ago, three-year-old Kang Yuanwei joined the company as his mother, the CEO's personal assistant.
Six months ago, he was appointed the General Manager of the expanding company.
The little boy had been juggling his time between kindergarten activities and General Managers tasks proficiently.
The kindergarten teacher praised him as the smartest boy in the class with boundless future ahead.
The company higher-ups were constantly in awe of the sharp and brilliant General Manager, whose amazing intuition, inexhaustible pool of creativity, and quick wits earned the company a lot of profit in the first quarter of his tenure.
Today, they had initially planned to inform Kang Zihan of their successful endeavor.
Luckily, the wolf shed his disguise today, thus preventing Song Zhenxin and Kang Yuanwei from sustaining considerable losses.
A gentle smile spread on Song Zhenxin's face. Heaven sided with the good ones, she decided.
Next to her, Kang Yuanwei looked up at his mother and smiled sweetly.
Kang Yuanwei adored his mother.
According to him, his mother was the most beautiful princess in the world, a goddess who was cast out of heaven out of envy, the most precious pearl at the bottom of the the deepest ocean.
That scumbag father of his must be blind to choose that ugly aunt over his mother!
Kang Yuanwei nodded to himself vigorously.
He would never grow into such a pathetic man with no aesthetic taste.
"Actually, Weiwei, your father is not wrong," Song Zhenxin slowly said. "A child your age should not carry the word 'scumbag' in your mouth."
Kang Yuanwei bristled like a cat in defense mode.
"What are you talking about, Mommy? My kindergarten teacher taught me to always be honest and speak up my mind.
He is a scumbag, so why can I not call him a scumbag?
Besides, I am about to submit an application to the Local Household Registration Office to change my father's first name! He should not be named Kang Zihan. It should be Kang Cuowu*!"
Song Zhenxin snorted.
"Where in the world can a son change a father's name? Weiwei, you are being unreasonable."
"If I cannot change his name, can I at least change my surname?" Kang Yuanwei demanded. "I don't want anyone to find out that he is my biological father. What if they assume that I take after him?"
Song Zhenxin couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"Hohohoho~ you are my adorable son. How can you take after him? Alright, alright. To celebrate the divorce, Mommy will take you to the Local Household Registration Office to change your surname."
The little boy was so happy that he started bouncing around like a little ball.
"Mommy is the best!" He cried out.
"But we have to wait until the divorce procedure concludes," Song Zhenxin wagged a finger in front of her son.
Kang Yuanwei groaned.
"He is going to have another child soon, anyway. What is the use of holding onto me?"
Song Zhenxin tugged at Kang Yuanwei's hand playfully, prompting the latter to look at her.
"Is Weiwei going to be jealous?" She teased.
"Pffft. No. Absolutely not. I have Mommy with me, and that's enough."
Song Zhenxin rubbed his head lovingly.
"As long as Mommy has Weiwei with her, it is also enough for her."
After a while, their stomachs started to rumble.
"Ah," they both said in unison. "We did not get to eat dinner."
"All the good food is wasted," Kang Yuanwei whined. "And I wanted to eat Mommy's cooking so badly too~!"
"Oh, Mommy will cook you more food in the future," Song Zhenxin hummed. "Now that I no longer have to take care of that useless scumbag father of yours, I will have plenty of time to take care of my little boy!"
Kang Yuanwei erupted in a cheer.
"Okay then, in that case I don't mind not eating my Mommy's cooking tonight."
"What does Weiwei want to eat? If it's Yangzhou fried rice, we can head to nearby Crescent Road for some. Old Man Huo's Yangzhou fried rice is famous in the entire S city."
"Did you bring some money, Mommy?"
Song Zhenxin pressed her lips together into a thin line.
"How unlucky," she exclaimed. "I didn't bring any."
"In that case..."
Kang Yuanwei whipped out his phone and ordered taxi through an application.
"We can spend one night at Bougenville Hotel and eat dinner in their famous Moon Jade Restaurant. The dishes are okay. Even though the skills of the chefs can barely compare to Mommy's culinary prowess, the food should be good enough to fill our stomachs."
Song Zhenxin smiled.
"Mommy will listen to Weiwei then."
The taxi arrived soon, taking the mother and son duo to the five-star Bougenville Hotel.
By the time they stepped out of the car, Kang Yuanwei had already finished booking the most expensive suite overlooking the lavish infinite pool.
What they did not expect to see was a group of men with black suits and black shoes, lining up in two columns, flanking the entrance staircase in welcome.
"Congratulations on the auspicious divorce, Miss Song!" They all shouted in unison.

Kang Yuanwei : I am going to call my paternal grandparents and complain about the name they picked for that scumbag father. Maybe I can persuade them to change his name.
