Song Zhenxin and Kang Yuanwei had only brought two luggages with them when they left the Kang family's house.
It took them only half an hour to unpack their few belongings.
The newly acquired apartment, devoid of personal belongings, felt stark and impersonal despite its stylish furnishings and decor.
Even the spacious closets felt oddly deserted.
"We need to buy a lot of stuff," Song Zhenxin decided as she and Kang Yuanwei watched their new but empty apartment.
Kang Yuanwei held up a long list above his head.
"Mommy, I already prepared a list of items we need to buy."
Song Zhenxin clapped her hands in delight.
"As expected of Xinyuan's General Manager in charge! Why don't we browse the online shop together and order them?"
"No need, Mommy," Kang Yuanwei replied.
"Hmm?"
"I have already forwarded the list to the uncles in our WeChat group just now."
Song Zhenxin whipped her phone out of her pocket in bewilderment.
"We have a WeChat group?"
"Yes."
It was made ten minutes ago.
Kang Yuanwei had indeed taken a picture of the list and sent it to all the Jiang men.
Seven thumbs-up were seen beneath.
Song Zhenxin was just about to tell them not to bother with the list when the doorbell rang.
"Delivery for Ms. Song Zhenxin," the security guard announced as he held two lunch boxes in his hands.
Sunway Terrace did not allow the delivery men go past the apartment lobby, so the security guards were usually in charge of delivering the goods to their final destination.
"I am so sorry for the bother," Song Zhenxin smiled. "Many thanks."
"Lunch just arrived," Song Zhenxin announced. "From Uncle Jiang Ting."
"Yay~ what is it? I am in the mood for some honey-glazed roast pork skewers and some grilled chicken!"
"Well, you are in the luck then," Song Zhenxin removed the lids from the lunch boxes. "Uncle Jiang Ting ordered us some pork and chicken rice!"
"Yay~!"
Each lunch box was neatly segregated into several compartments.
They held fragrant steamed rice, succulent honey-glazed roast pork skewers, tender roast chicken cutlets, and a crisp salad of cabbage and pickles.
Additionally, they also came with a liter of orange juice for Kang Yuanwei and a liter of coffee for Song Zhenxin.
"Orange juice!" Kang Yuanwei exclaimed happily.
"My favorite coffee," Song Zhenxin sighed in delight when she saw the inscription across the bottle. "Ting-Gege still remembers."
It was only the first of many more deliveries that day.
After three consecutive deliveries, Song Zhenxin felt sorry for the security guard.
"There will be more, Sir," she said as the security guard placed another cardboard box in her hands. "You don't have to bring them up one by one. You can wait until you have three or four items."
"I can't, Ms. Song," the security guard said with a haggard face. "It was Mr. Jiang Wen's personal instruction to us."
Inside the apartment, Kang Yuanwei opened the cardboard boxes one by one with practiced ease and handed the content to his mother to place inside the house.
The last delivery made him squeal from happiness.
"Mommy, Uncle Jiang Ting sent me Space Race 3!"
Kang Yuanwei held up the box above his head.
"I have always wanted this!"
Song Zhenxin frowned.
"I can understand the groceries and the kitchen appliances, but why the game?"
Attached was a card, personally written by Jiang Ting.
"To my beloved nephew, congratulations on a happy divorce!"
Kang Yuanwei was absolutely ecstatic about the divorce.
It was like Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Winter Solstice, his birthday, and Christmas all at once!
Song Zhenxin could merely shake her head at her son, who quickly unpacked his new game and marveled over each item inside.
Song Zhenxin sent a message to the WeChat group, "Cousins, please stop sending me stuff. I can buy them myself."
No replies.
Song Zhenxin sighed.
Not long after, Kang Yuanwei sent a message, "Uncles, thank you for all the deliveries! I particularly enjoy the Space Race 3!"
Seven thumbs-up were raised within two seconds.
"..."
When Song Zhenxin was marvelling over the remarkable bond between her son and her cousins, a message from the Kang family's lawyer arrived.
"Ms. Song, I want to inform you that the divorce procedures have been completed. I will send you a copy of the divorce documents to your new address.
Are you staying at the villa on the outskirts of S City?"
"Oh, no, I am not," Song Zhenxin wrote back. "Let me give you my new address."
Good news came one by one.
"Weiwei, guess what?"
Song Zhenxin sat next to her son, who had started playing her game on their 60" flat screen TV.
"What, Mommy?"
Song Zhenxin flashed him the message from the lawyer.
"Look. The divorce has been finalized. We are free."
"Yayyy~!!!"
Kang Yuanwei put his game console aside to hug his mother.
"In that case, Mommy, can we go to the Local Household Registration Office now?"
"Hmmm..."
It was already four in the afternoon. The office was closing in an hour.
"Why don't we go tomorrow?" Song Zhenxin said. "After that, Mommy will take you out for an ice cream."
"Yayyy~!!!"
Kang Yuanwei was always excited for ice cream.
The next morning after breakfast, the mother and son prepared to go to the Local Household Registration Office.
A brisk twenty-minute walk separated their new home from their destination. Opting for fresh air over a cab ride, the mother and son decided to stretch their legs and savor the morning breeze.
When they arrived, a familiar black car materialized close to the office building, screeching to a halt at the sight of the approaching mother and son.
A familiar couple stepped out of the car, their faces showing utter bewilderment.
