Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 - I Don't Want To Be Kang Anymore (2)

"What are you two doing here?" Kang Zihan snapped none-too-friendly.

"Brother Kang, don't be mean," Song Zhenruan, the fox vixen, spoke in a soft voice as she moved to stand next to Kang Zihan.

"Xinxin," she swallowed as she blinked at Song Zhenxin, fake distress perfectly etched in her features. "I could barely sleep last night. I kept having nightmares about you and Weiwei. I heard that you haven't moved into the villa yet. Where are you staying these days? At least allow me to pay for the hotel."

Song Zhenxin chuckled.

"Thank you for being concerned. I had assumed you would sleep very well once I am out of the picture. Is the bed comfortable enough for you?"

Kang Yuanwei scoffed. He unwrapped an orange and watermelon lollipop from Jiang Kai and put it in his mouth, "Aunt Ruanruan, you don't even have a job. How can you have the money to pay for our hotel bill? You are just going to use Daddy's money to pay, aren't you?"

Song Zhenruan's eyes flashed dangerously, but she still forced herself to smile. The corners of her lips twitched in anger as she spoke.

"Yes, that is what I mean. It's not a problem, is it, Brother Kang?" she batted her eyelids coquettishly at the man draping his arm around her intimately.

"Not at all, Dear," Kang Zihan squeezed her arm in reassurance.

"Technically it's not a problem," Kang Yuanwei continued. "My kindergarten teacher taught me to always be honest and speak the truth. Maybe Aunt Ruanruan's kindergarten teacher is not as good as mine, otherwise, how can she fail to teach Aunt Ruanruan such basic lessons in life?"

By that time, Zhen Songruan's face suggested that she might just commit murder then and there. Thankfully, Kang Zihan was there to soothe her.

"There, there, Ruanruan, Weiwei is just a child. A very, very, disobedient and rude child," he emphasized while glaring in Kang Yuanwei's direction. "Don't let him anger you. It is not good for either you or the baby."

Kang Zihan's words quickly boosted Song Zhenruan's mood.

"That's right," she beamed. "I am going to give you a second son, Brother Kang. He is going to be polite and obedient, unlike his elder brother."

"He can be the first," Kang Yuanwei shrugged, suggesting he did not care. "I am changing my surname today."

The little boy's words might be spoken lightly, but his father looked like he had just been slapped thrice on each cheek!

"Weiwei, what are you saying?" He snapped at his son. "Don't be ridiculous! What do you mean, changing your surname? How on earth is that allowed? Besides, you are just a child!"

Kang Yuanwei lifted his chin, his condescending posture unfortunately failing to impress due to his short stature, but he couldn't care less.

"We will see, Daddy," he said coldly. "We will see."

He then tugged at his mother's hand and blinked at her cutely.

"Mommy, let's go to the Household Registration Section now."

"Of course, Weiwei."

Song Zhenxin and Kang Yuanwei walked past the baffled Kang Zihan and Song Zhenruan, not even bothering to give them one last condescending look.

Dumbstruck, Kang Zihan stood frozen on the spot for several seconds before he chased after his ex-wife and son, his eyes blazing with fury.

At the Household Registration Section, Kang Yuanwei stepped up to the service ticket vending machine at the Household Registration Section and retrieved a number.

He was stunned to see his father, standing behind him and fuming in anger.

"Daddy, what are you doing here?" He asked. "Are you planning to change your surname as well?"

"No," Song Zhenruan looped her arm around Kang Zihan's. "We are formally registering our marriage today. We plan to throw a lavish celebratory party this weekend at home. You and your mother are more than welcome to attend."

Kang Yuanwei looked like someone just forced him to eat a live snail.

Song Zhenxin chuckled.

"So sorry, but we are busy. We don't have time to entertain you. Let me send you a red envelope later on, hm?"

Smiling smugly, Song Zhenruan took a number from the service ticket vending machine.

"Thank you, Xinxin."

"Weiwei, let's talk, from man to man," Kang Zihan growled at his son.

Kang Yuanwei sighed.

What was there to talk about? Even the divorce papers had been signed!

Still, it will take at least an hour before his turn arrived.

The father and son left the section to talk in private.

"A divorce between man and wife is sometimes unavoidable," Kang Zihan embarked on the task of imparting his life's wisdom to his son. "It does not mean that anything between us must change."

Kang Zihan squatted in front of his son so that they could speak on eye level.

"Weiwei, Daddy still loves you and will always do. Why do you have to treat Daddy like a stranger?"

Kang Yuanwei stared at his father for a split second before he slowly called out, "Daddy?"

"... Yes?"

"You seem to prefer playing with new toys than old toys."

"... What toy?"

"Daddy always only rides the newest car. The others are left in the basement garage, collecting dust, or sold away."

Kang Zihan chuckled.

"What does that have to do with you and me?"

"Everything," Kang Yuanwei furrowed his brows slightly.

"My Mommy is an angel who tolerates you through your months of marital infidelity. She has never in life thought about putting extra salt in your chicken herbal soup just to enrage you.

I, unfortunately, am not willing to wait. I will leave before your second child is born and you discard me as well."

"..."

Kang Zihan was visibly shattered by his son's insight.

"I never thought that you would think this way," he whispered.

After all, Kang Yuanwei was only five years old!

"Don't worry, Daddy. You have the chance to be a better father for my half-brother. I wish you the best of luck."

Having said his piece, Kang Yuanwei marched back into the Household Registration Section.
