"We know," Jiang Cheng sighed. "But Zhenxin, you are a woman and Weiwei is still a child. We don't think that it's safe for you to live on your own. Ah Wen has been renting out those two houses to families, why don't you just stay with one of us?"
"Well, now that Cheng-Gege said that..." Zhenxin hummed to herself. "It will only be the two of us. We don't need a lot of space. Wen-Gege, don't you have a good apartment you can recommend me?"
Jiang Wen's lips curled up into a smile.
"Naturally. Our Jiang Corporation keeps the best properties in S City. I will come back to you with a list of the best choices on the table!"
Song Zhenxin exchanged smiles with her son before both beamed at Jiang Wen.
"Thank you, Wen-Gege."
"Thank you, Uncle Jiang Wen~"
They ate and drank until Kang Weiyuan's sleeping time arrived.
The Jiang cousins excused themselves, not without reminding Song Zhenxin to keep her phone with her at all times and call them whenever necessary.
With her son safely tucked in her arms, Song Zhenxin headed to the suite Kang Yuanwei booked for them. She carefully laid her son to bed and watched his innocent, sleeping face for some time before she rose to her feet and headed to the seating area outside of the bedroom.
Once alone, she felt the weight of the divorce cutting deeply into her heart.
That was how it ended, her marriage.
When she met Kang Zihan seven years ago, she was only eighteen years old, starting her first year studying Business Administration at S City's prestigious S University.
Twenty-year-old Kang Zihan was studying pharmacy in his third year. Although he hailed from a poor family, he was gentle and amicable, and he loved her very much.
That was why Song Zhenxin agreed to marry him.
Using her powerful connections with the Jiang family, she pulled many invisible strings from behind the curtain, effectively helping Kang Zihan build his pharmaceutical company.
Song Zhenxin sighed and closed her eyes.
And for what...?
"Our marriage has always been one of convenience."
Song Zhenxin laughed self-deprecatingly.
Kang Zihan was neither handsome nor successful, but he was cunning and cruel.
Song Zhenxin poured herself some drink and emptied the glass with one gulp.
Oh, well.
She was no longer an eighteen-year-old girl.
She was now a mother to the most adorable and loving son in the world.
She had to be strong. For herself and for her Weiwei.
The mother and child slept until late in the morning before heading downstairs for a hearty breakfast at the Moon Jade Restaurant.
This morning, the guests were indulged in a sumptuous dim sum feast, a veritable symphony of flavors and textures. A dazzling array of delicacies graced the buffet tables, each dish a miniature masterpiece designed to pamper the guests.
From the delicate, translucent skin of har gow dumplings, filled with succulent shrimp, to the crispy embrace of golden-brown siu mai, each bite was nothing short of a revelation.
To cleanse the palate in between dishes, a selection of sweet treats, including egg tarts and mango pudding, offered a perfect addition to the culinary delight.
For once, Kang Yuanwei had nothing to complain about. Each dish tasted especially delicious when his mother fed him directly.
During breakfast, Song Zhenxin received a new message from Jiang Wen.
True to his words, he sent over a list of the finest apartments in S City for them to pick from.
"Zhenxin, I have noticed all the landlords that you might come to inspect the properties. A car is already waiting for you and Weiwei at the hotel lobby. Feel free to use it the entire day. Just tell the chauffeur where you want to go first.
As soon as you find anything to your liking, message me and it's yours. You can move in by today if you want."
Song Zhenxin smiled to herself.
"Thank you, Wen-Gege," she replied before forwarding the list to her capable son.
"Weiwei, today we are going to shop for a new house!" She said excitedly.
Sharing her excitement, Kang Yuanwei broke into a cheer.
"Yayyy...!!!"
Jiang Wen's recommendations were nothing short of aspirational. Each apartment was a masterpiece of luxury and design, the epitome of modern living. It was the kind of residence that most people could only dream of owning.
After spending the entire day visiting one apartment after another, Song Zhenxin and Kang Yuanwei agreed on one specific apartment.
The chosen apartment, located at the 77th floor of Sunway Terrace, boasted a prime location in the heart of S City, placing it within easy reach of the city's key amenities. Moreover, its proximity to both Xinyuan Incorporated headquarters and Emerald Garden Academy, Kang Yuanwei's soon-to-be school, promised to streamline their daily routines and facilitate more frequent mother-son interactions.
Unfortunately, such coveted properties came with an equally coveted waiting list, stretching from weeks to months, a source of endless frustration for prospective buyers.
People typically did not just waltz into the apartment building, look around, shake hands with the landlord, and move in the very same day.
Unless, of course, one possessed influential connections.
Thus the neighbors could not help but wonder about their beautiful new neighbor and her son.
Just who were they?
And what kind of relationship did they have with Jiang Corporation?
The neighbors, simmering with curiosity, could not help but sneak glances whenever they could to catch the tiniest bit of information about the new occupants of Sunway Terrace.
The mother and son spent their first and second day cooped up in the apartment. Every hour, the apartment's security guard came up the floors to deliver them something, the items ranging from food to mysterious boxes as tall as the security guard himself.
How mysterious.
