Chapter 30 - Level Up

"Strange, what is that?" Sylas wondered aloud as he noticed something glimmering inside the head of the dead mutant zombie. Intrigued, he decided to take a closer look.

Sylas left the second floor and slowly approached the mutant zombie's body. The area was crawling with zombies, a no-go zone for the living. But with his Zombie Aura skill, Sylas avoided attacks, allowing him to reach the mutant zombie's corpse without incident.

Upon reaching the body, Sylas saw that there was indeed a crystal inside the shattered head, emitting a faint glow. Just then, a message appeared on the system interface.

"Energy crystal detected. Contact to absorb."

Sylas was taken aback. He hadn't expected the system to intervene. Clearly, this energy crystal was no ordinary item. Ignoring the revulsion, he picked up the crystal with his hand. It was blood-red, appearing as though blood flowed within it.

As Sylas held the crystal, the system prompted him to choose whether to absorb it. He opted not to, for now, wanting to examine the crystal further to understand its unique properties. Absorbing it immediately might waste its potential.

The system interface identified the crystal as a Level 1 Crystal. This name made sense, given that it came from a Level 1 mutant zombie.

Sylas pocketed the crystal for further investigation. It might hold the key to more significant power or a clue to understanding the mutant zombies better.

If a Level 2 mutant zombie produced a crystal, it would likely be called a Level 2 Crystal. Sylas played with the Level 1 Energy Crystal in his hand, quickly discovering that faint threads of energy were seeping out from it. As Sylas touched the crystal, its energy was slowly absorbed by him.

Yes, it was a slow absorption process. Sylas glanced at the system interface and saw that the energy bar was gradually increasing as he absorbed this energy. However, the rate was so slow that it would take several days to increase by just one ten-thousandth.

Sylas realized that this Energy Crystal could indeed enhance his ability's energy bar, albeit very slowly. On the system interface, there was also an option for direct absorption of the Energy Crystal.

Having previously declined, Sylas now chose to let the system absorb the Level 1 Crystal. He wanted to see what the system could achieve. The system's capabilities were beyond imagination. As soon as Sylas chose to absorb, the crystal in his hand instantly dissipated into light particles, which were then absorbed by his body. These light particles were all funneled into the energy bar, causing it to spike significantly.

The energy bar almost instantly jumped by two percent. This meant that with fifty such Level 1 Crystals, Sylas could level up his ability. Sylas now fully understood the value and function of these crystals.

The value of these Level 1 Crystals was immense. With just fifty of them, Sylas could level up his Fire Control ability. Sylas now knew how to quickly enhance this powerful ability.

"Killing mutant zombies, huh? I understand now," Sylas murmured.

The number of mutant zombies was relatively small. Sylas didn't know what conditions caused zombies to mutate, but he knew those conditions were stringent, making mutant zombies rare. However, in a large city with so many zombies, the number of mutant zombies wasn't insignificant.

Previously, Sylas would avoid mutant zombies, but now he needed to seek them out. Riding his motorcycle, Sylas headed to areas with the highest zombie concentrations. Upon arrival, he would fire his gun into the air, using the gunshots to attract zombies. If there were any mutant zombies nearby, they would surely be drawn to the sound.

"Is this guy crazy?" Hu Ge said, watching Sylas ride his motorcycle through the streets, firing shots everywhere. He was stunned. He had never seen anyone as reckless as Sylas, driving into zombie hordes and deliberately attracting them with gunfire. Only a madman would do such a thing.

Many other survivors shared Hu Ge's thoughts. They saw Sylas too and regarded him as a lunatic. However, they couldn't help but envy his gun and motorcycle. But envy was useless.

Sylas was determined, and he understood the risks. Yet, the potential rewards of enhancing his Fire Control ability were worth it. He continued his daring strategy, hoping to lure out as many mutant zombies as possible.

Now the streets were filled with zombies, forcing all the survivors to hide in the shadows, too afraid to move. Sylas didn't care what others thought of him. In these times, he had no reason to be concerned with anyone else's opinion. His sole focus was on killing mutant zombies.

"Alright, a mutant zombie has appeared," Sylas muttered, spotting a particularly unusual zombie among the horde. This zombie was small and skinny, but Sylas knew it was a mutant.
