Chapter 36 - Unexpected Gains

After killing the mutated zombie, Sylas could extract a portion of energy from its body. The Energy crystal also became one of Sylas' trophies. With this, he had completed one-tenth of his random task, leaving nine more mutated zombies to go.

This experience was a test and practice for Sylas. He needed to experiment with combining telekinesis and fire manipulation to see what kind of power they could unleash in battle. The results were delightful. Although telekinesis was not particularly powerful, its controllability was extremely useful. It could serve as a powerful auxiliary skill for Sylas.

Having gained experience from this first coordinated battle, Sylas knew that future battles would be easier. The nighttime environment might be a limitation for ordinary people, but for Sylas, with his night vision, it posed no hindrance. The more zombies there were, the more mutated zombies he could kill.

Another mutated zombie appeared in Sylas' sight. This one was a speed-type mutated zombie. So far, Sylas had identified two types of mutated zombies: the small and fast ones, and the large and powerful ones. This one was a speed-type, and there were very few ordinary zombies around it.

Sylas had an idea he wanted to test. He approached the mutated zombie. At first, the zombie showed no reaction. But when Sylas got within ten meters, the mutated zombie suddenly turned its head and looked at him. It let out a low growl, as if trying to communicate with Sylas.

Sylas was startled but did not react to the zombie's growl, as he had no idea how zombies communicated. This lack of response seemed to anger the mutated zombie.

The speed-type mutated zombie immediately started sprinting towards Sylas. Sylas realized that while his zombie aura could conceal him from ordinary zombies, it would be detected by mutated zombies when he got too close. Although he didn't know how the mutated zombies detected him, he knew he couldn't approach them directly; otherwise, they would attack him.

Fortunately, Sylas had ample time to react. As soon as the mutated zombie charged, he used telekinesis to bind it. Speed-type mutated zombies were fast but not strong. Sylas' telekinesis was highly effective against them. By focusing his telekinesis on the zombie's legs, he caused them to contract, making the zombie crash heavily to the ground.

Sylas quickly moved forward and slashed at the fallen zombie. The zombie raised its arms to defend itself, but its movements were noticeably slower due to Sylas' telekinesis restraining its limbs. With a downward slash, Sylas severed one of the zombie's arms.

The speed-type mutated zombie's defenses were weak and couldn't withstand Sylas' attacks. It roared, summoning nearby zombies to its aid, but it was too late. Without the arm to block, Sylas swiftly decapitated the mutated zombie with a single strike. This was his first close-range kill of a mutated zombie.

Sylas quickly cut open the zombie's head and retrieved the Energy crystal inside. As the surrounding zombies swarmed towards him, Sylas leaped onto a nearby wall to escape.

Sylas's initial leap could only get him just over a meter high, while the wall was over three meters tall, making it impossible to jump over. However, with telekinesis supporting his feet, Sylas was lifted straight onto the wall. Telekinesis could be applied to external objects as well as to Sylas himself.

Using telekinesis, Sylas clung to the wall and quickly climbed up, escaping the surrounding buildings and leaving the area. Although Sylas could use telekinesis to make himself fly, his weight made it a significant drain on his power, and it wasn't very fast. While not very useful in combat, it was perfect for escaping, as demonstrated now.

This was the second mutated zombie Sylas had killed tonight. He still had eight more to go. After finding an empty room, Sylas rested for a while to recover his energy and began searching for his next target.

At that moment, Sylas heard voices coming from the next room. Voices meant survivors. Intrigued, Sylas walked over slowly. As the door opened, a group of people appeared before him.

The group was startled by Sylas's sudden appearance.

"Who are you? How did you get here?" asked a middle-aged man wearing glasses, eyeing Sylas warily.

"I'm just passing by. I heard voices and came to check it out," Sylas replied, glancing around at the group. He was looking to see if there were any prime candidates for the system's criteria for high-quality slaves.

At that moment, a system notification popped up: "High-quality slave candidate found: Lillian, score 90 points."
