Chereads / Rise of the Holo Pets / Chapter 3 - Fight

Chapter 3 - Fight

The world was made unfair for Holo Pet users the moment that the era began.

The other categories were given priority right away while they were greatly discriminated against and pushed aside.

Holo Pet users were not granted the same opportunities as others as they were seen as useless and not worth being nurtured.

All that they were seen as were people who possessed a small pet that could be used as bait, a distraction or to scout for them.

The schooling and other systems put in place to nurture the next generation were all the same as their sole focus was put toward nurturing those who would be able to aid humanity toward ensuring their survival.

Those who possessed a tool were taught how to use it and were given opportunities to improve themselves.

It was the same for those who possessed an elemental type since they were equally as important and could provide a lot of group support and destructive power.

The methods available for Holo Pet users to nurture their abilities did not exist and were unexplored territory.

All Holo Pet users were unable to join any schools or official groups while being stuck unable to discover what potential they possessed.

Even those who had a very high synchronization rate and talent were overlooked since they were seen as being useless even if they were nurtured.

Since nobody had bothered to attempt raising one, nobody had yet to discover how to nurture a Holo Pet user.

Perhaps it had been explored in the past but the records of it were either lost and not passed on or it had not been made public.

The cause of it was unknown but the difference in treatment was very real and those born as Holo Pet users were destined to be stuck at the very bottom of society.

Edgar was such a person who struggled to survive and had to go through many difficulties to pick up some survival skills along the way.

He had to learn how to shoot and had to purchase things that would aid him yet he rarely got to use them unless it was to buy him enough time to escape and survive another day.

Edgar had the lives of others depending on him to return.

The money he would earn from using his black cat Holo Pet to scout for various groups was what he would use to support those who were in similar situations to himself from an early age.

He had to fend for himself from an early age and those he supported were abandoned children that he looked out for at an orphanage.

It was a more desperate age where discrimination was thrown into it causing many harsh realities to take place.

Children were abandoned by their parents since they were deemed useless and a waste of food and resources.

Those children who had been identified early in their lives as possessing the Nano Pet category were abandoned just like Edgar was.

It did not happen all of the time but it was something that happened within less fortunate families that struggled to provide for themselves or those within areas where Nano Pet users face greater scrutiny.

Simply having a child born within the Nano Pet category was considered a disgrace to their reputation in some areas and not every family would be able to cope with such prejudice and pressure.

Devices were developed years ago to better identify what type of category each child was in before they manifested so that only helped towards identifying who was useless and who was not from the moment they were born.

Edgar could not afford to die so easily otherwise the money he had been putting toward helping children like himself would come to a halt.

Few others would support them after he was gone so he kept moving while listening to the movements of the creature chasing behind him.

It would soon reach him so he steeled himself to face it. "Come at me!"

He couldn't help but shout and provoke the creature as he turned to face it.

It was a little smaller than himself in height but it was still quite large.

The body shape of it resembled a wolf in many ways and it looked very fierce in appearance.

The speed at which it moved was much too fast as it lunged toward him.

His physical body which was the same as any other ordinary human could barely keep up with it despite the rigorous training it had undergone.

Edgar never gave up on himself despite the disadvantages he faced through life and perhaps that was what he needed in the present situation.

If it was any other human then perhaps they may have been unable to react in time.

He managed to move his body enough so that he could avoid the worst-case scenario. "AAAH!"

The teeth of the creature sunk into his arm easily tearing through his flesh and bone.

It was clear that the power shown by the creature that it was not an ordinary beast.

It was a beast that had been enhanced during the beginning of the Nano Era.

It may only have been one that was of a low grade but it was still enough to put all of his life efforts to shame.

Perhaps anyone would have given up then and there but Edgar still had not given up his resolve. "Guh.. AH!"

He could feel the jaws of the creature tightening as it was about to rip his arm off completely.

He was barely able to hold onto his sanity and consciousness as it was happening but he did.

He leaned into the beast biting onto it like a wild animal to hold onto it.

His legs came up to wrap around its form from where he was held by it and his free arm was holding tightly onto his gun.

He may not have had that big of a chance to survive but he would try to do so.

His gun was shakily pointed toward the creature from where he was positioned and was being shaken around as it almost took his arm from his body.

The only stability he had was that the creature still held onto him as he held onto it.

His small black cat Holo Pet had jumped up onto the creature too as it tried to harm it but it was quickly knocked down.

It seemed to do no damage with its tiny teeth and claws which showed how it paled in comparison to the beast and how it did not help him in his current situation.

It only proved to be a slight annoyance to the creature.

It was an all-of-nothing moment as he pushed the gun toward the eye of the creature and he felt something softer than the rest of the body parts of the creature.

The trigger was pulled causing the creature to let out a fierce roar. "GRAW!"

Edgar emptied every single shot that he had into it causing it to drop to the ground along with him.

The creature died causing strange particles to come from the body.

It was what usually came from the bodies of the creatures that many others hunted.

The gaze of Edgar became complicated as he stared at it. "Go!"
