Chapter 11 - CHAPTER ELEVEN

LOGAN ᥫ᭡

I'M up early this morning as always, it's 5 o'clock and Lois is still sleeping after skipping dinner last night. I didn't eat too, my conscience wouldn't let me.

I know she is still upset about the preferential treatment the surrogate was getting but the least thing I can do for her is to stand my ground on not accepting mom's schemes.

Sooner or later, the woman would probably move out due to discouragement and I get to have her back to normal again.

I sent a message to a guard requesting that he'd come up to help me with my wheelchair. The man came and it was an easy, noiseless effort.

After that I brushed my teeth and made my way to get my morning coffee. For convenience my room was moved a few doors from the kitchen to the ground floor and it was an interesting journey. Lois was going on another trip to talk with the investors of her upcoming clothing brand.

She was actively invested in giving her customers the best and I am proud of her. I still miss my 'boring' job, this staying at home routine was still boring even with Lois around.

She'd only want to talk about a few things like politics, tell me a weird story about a man who kept secrets from his wife, it never ended well. Afternoons were spent in my study and she'd come over to use my desktop and look around. Evenings at the garden, Lois was always with me but it still felt lonely.

We were very cultured and did nothing spontaneous, I found nothing wrong with it when I had work to do now, I just feel like a mere accessory.

Nonetheless, I love my wife and I know that she does too.

When I arrived at the kitchen, the lights were already on, which was weird because the maids were usually in their quarters until 6am. Who could possibly be in there now?

I wheeled in to find a figure at the coffee machine, repeatedly sighing as she waited for it to finish brewing. It was none other than Cassie, she was already feeling quite comfortable to get up early and brew her own coffee like she wasn't a guest.

"Excuse me, " I called for her attention and she turned to look at me.

"What is it? she asked and turned back to the coffee machine.

She's wearing a two piece silk black nightwear, her back is slightly revealed and I spot a sketch on her skin, probably a tattoo.

My mom wouldn't hire her if she knew she had a tattoo of any sort, I wonder if Cassie perfectly concealed it from her eyesight.

"What are you doing here? " I snap out of my thoughts to ask.

"As you can see, Mr. Wellington. I'm making coffee. To drink. Or does the kitchen have any other purpose? "

As expected, rude, arrogant and mannerless as always.

She grabbed two cups from the dishrack and placed it next to the coffee maker.

"If you may please, I'd like to make mine, myself, " I turned down her attempt quickly. I wouldn't take anything she made with her hands even if I witnessed the making process.

Cassie tilted her head to my direction, her pupils looking at me intently, "You really love over hyping yourself don't you?"

"What is that supposed to mean? "

"Who said I was making coffee for you? The second cup is for your Aunt, not you. Happy now? "

Oh.

"Well… I—"

"Save it, I'm already done, " she dismissed my words with a wave of her hand.

Who does this woman think she is? I wheeled my chair forward, closing the little space between us, "Look, Miss. Cassie Hugh or whatever your name may be, this my house and —"

Just then, she turned on again to look at me when the cup in hand fell on the floor, the hot coffee splashing on my chest immediately. It felt like I was being branded like a bull, I let out a yell immediately as I felt my skin burn.

"F*ck! " she angrily cussed as she dropped the empty cup. "Look at what you've done! " she scolded, grabbed a towel and dabbed it running water from the sink.

Cassie proceeded to open up the buttons of my shirt and placed the cold towel on the spot.

Her eyes came in contact with mine and neither of us would look away. It felt soothing to look at her aside from the fact that the cold towel provided relief from the burn and my racing heart (probably out of shock.)

She finally blinked and smacked my shoulder, "Why were you so close in the first place?! "

"Because… just leave it, I'll handle it, " I objected, trying to take the towel from her.

"I've done this a couple of times, leave it to me, " Cassie refused.

"Just give it to me, " I demanded, trying to grab the towel but I accidentally grabbed her wrist instead and pulled her directly onto my lap.

"Wow." A familiar voice commented and we turned our heads to see Jesse, Aunt Heather and Lois at the door.

Oh no.

Cassie quickly stood up and Lois left the scene leaving Aunt Heather and Jesse behind.

"It was an accident," Cassie and I chorused.

"You were taking long with the coffee, dear I thought you got lost or something, " Aunt Heather started.

I left them there and followed Lois behind.

"Nice move, Uncle, " Jesse smirked.

"Shut up, " I hissed.

This wasn't good, this wasn't good at all. I was slowly turning into an adulterous man. I'm a married man for goodness sake why did I let her open up my shirt in the first place?

No matter what may have happened even if she spilled larva on me, I shouldn't have compromised my values for anything or anyone.

Lois was just trying to heal from the family's affection towards Cassie and I just had to add salt to her wounds.

When I got to the room, she was zipping up her bags. Is she leaving?

"Lois, please calm down . It was an accident, she spilled coffee on me, "

"Terry called, I'll have to leave early. I'll see you in two weeks, "

"You can't just leave like this, please hear me out," I begged, bringing my chair closer.

"I've heard enough. It's suffocating to see you, Logan. Just let me be, the nurse would be here by 9am I called her yesterday,"

My heart crushed into multiple pieces, "Suffocating?"

Lois sniffled, "You know, sometimes I ask myself if I can actually trust you. It's like you're hiding something from me,"

I tried to hold her hand and she moved away, "I am not hiding anything from you, there's nothing about me that you do not know. I can assure you that it was just an accident, it'll never happen again,"

"Nothing about you that I don't know? I doubt that, Logan and I know you know too, "

With that, she wheeled out her small luggage and left the room, without looking back.
