Chapter 13 - CHAPTER THIRTEEN

CASSIE𐚁 (AVERY)

THE CHAT with Logan's nurse was really short, she already had a detailed file that had all the name of his drugs and a very detailed timetable too for each one.

I'm on my way to his room to give him the afternoon dosage since Gertrude gave him the pills he needed that morning.

He's been inside all morning, probably still sulking over what happened so I brought his breakfast for along (Evelyn's request) From surrogate to nanny, thank you guys so much for the promotion.

I got to the door and knocked calmly but I didn't get a response at first, I knocked again but still nothing. No one's going to keep me waiting, I turned the door knob and to my surprise, it was actually open.

My gaze scrutinized round the room for a while before settling on Logan who was seated on his wheelchair in front of a large window, drumming on the chair with two fingers. Thank goodness, he's still alive.

I walked up to him after dropping the drugs on the table and the tray of food, "Hey, where's your medicine cabinet?"

He turned to look at me, as his face scrunched into a frown, "I know what you're here for, it's fine you can leave,"

As expected, his regular childish tantrums and objection but I'm not going to exchange words with him. I might as well leave him to die but for the sake of what his lips held. I have to endure for the suffering that I'll go through now is nothing compared to the joy of victory that tomorrow holds.

"Your mom asked me to assist you while she's away,"

"You are the last person I want to see now, so you might as well just leave," Logan growled, moving his wheelchair past me as he made way to a room.

"I don't want to see you as well but here we are. Look, I'm not here to cause any problems between you and your wife. You're not even my type, dude. Just calm down and go with the flow,"

He paused and turned around in a split second with his brows raised, "Go with the flow? You think it's that easy, huh?"

"If it'll make my life easier, yes. I was ordered to stay here with you, against my will but I just have to do it,"

Logan clenched his jaw as he looked at me straight in the eye, "My wife is gone and none of that would've happened if it weren't for you,"

"Do not guilt trip me over something you know you caused, I was quietly making my coffee in the kitchen you were nice enough to grace it with your presence. I regret helping you out with the burn in the first place. I should've just let you roast to death and your wife would've left either way, she went on a business trip not on divorce journey,"

For a moment, his lips trembled as he struggled to find the right words to say and eventually retreated to his study in defeat. I did win this battle, baby boy the least thing you can do to grace your defeat is to make things easier for the both of us and co-operate.

As for his wife, Lois why would she agree to surrogacy in the first place if it made her so uncomfortable? I think the family's nice, contrary to what a family of their class would do, they would've just thrown her out. You married to heir of a wealthy family without being capable to continue their bloodline

No one would take that risk unless her husband was totally smitten by them but she has Logan wrapped around her finger, why doesn't she have access to the fortune?

She's his wife and he's clearly obsessed with her but he still doesn't trust her?

I waited a few minutes for him in the bedroom, observing how large and extravagant it was compared to mine. I poured out a glass of wine from the mini bar to season my brief tour.

At the center of the room was a large frame of their wedding photo, Logan even looked happier than Lois and quite younger too.

Like the rest of the house, its aesthetics was basic neutral colours with little decoration like miniature vases and paintings as well. I bet that they'd cost a fortune.

It's over thirty minutes and he's still in his study so I ventured out to find him and get this dosage and lunch done with. I wanted to barge in but the little politeness I had left to spare prompted me to knock, I knocked calmly.

"Come in," he yelled from instead.

My jaw slightly dropped when I walked into the room to see a vast collection of books organised in tall shelves like a national library or something.

There are dozens of fine yellow bulbs hanging on the ceiling for lighting, a large desk with a desktop computer, printer and scanner.

I'm guessing that this was his work desk before he stopped working, he's wearing a pair of white glasses which made him look like a hot nerd as he flipped through the pages of a book on the large black couch in the middle of the room.

A small refrigerator is at the corner and I sight folded duvet cover and sheets at a corner, I guess one of them sleeps here when working overnight. There's also a But overall this is sick in a good way, people would spend money on things they love because why would I invest so much in buying books? Not to mention the cost of maintainance too.

"Welcome to my turf, Cassie,"

"Oh, thanks,"

"Is that lunch? I'm starving please," he said, placing the book on the table and using a post it note as a temporary bookmark.

I placed the tray on the table and drugs by the side.

I have done this several times, once that I needed to take a drive from a Russian billionaire I stayed undercover for a few days before finally murdering him at his beach house in Hawaii. One of the jobs that I do not regret carrying out for that bastard, Rodrigo.

"Thank you," he forced a smile as he resumed eating, calmly.

So what am I going to do? Stare? I let out a sigh as my eyes kept roaming round the building as only the clanking of his plate could be heard.

"I think I've been a bad host and I apologize for what I did, Cassie,"

It felt like my heart stopped beating for a few seconds, the word 'apology' was new to me. I've been taught that people never feel remorseful for their actions unless they're at gunpoint so I have to have the upper hand with their life in my grasp and let them plea in vain just to end their walk on the Earth. Why would anyone apologize for being mean to me?

I didn't like this feeling at all, my eyes were quietly tearing up as multiple emotions gushed over me.

"But that doesn't mean that I approve of the surrogacy now, I believe that my wife still has a chance to have our kids. I can't give up on her now, "

"Yeah sure, I'll be back in a minute, "
