Chapter 12 - CHAPTER TWELVE

CASSIE (AVERY)

"It was totally an accident, his chair came forward and it startled me, honestly. It wouldn't have happened if he didn't try to drag the towel," I tried explaining things to Heather as I grabbed a nearby mop to start cleaning up the mess that the lunatic made and ran off.

Jesse already grabbed his midnight snack and went back with his Ipad to continue playing games.

I had gotten up by 3am and tried watching a few movies to keep my eyes busy since I couldn't sleep but I only got bored to death.

Rosita had given me a tour earlier round the house before dinner so I was always well acquainted with everywhere.

At the dinner table, they urged me to feel at home and live like a regular family member because it's the least they can do for the person who's going to carry their heir or heiress.

Coffee was the first thing on my mind to watch more movies so I got downstairs by 4:30 am. On my way, I sighted Heather at the table working on a few things, she spoke about being an author, a bestseller as well. I placed a reminder to check out her works even if I'm not a book person.

Heather ran out of coffee and asked me to make some for her while I made mine; which I was doing until that spoiled punk dared to think I was making it for him. It took a supernatural force to restrain me from giving him a punch in his jaw.

To sum up his craziness, he made me spill the coffee on him. What was I thinking when I carried that towel? I should've let the coffee burn his chest open.

"I understand, dear. We saw the way you handled it, but then you smacked him?"

I should've punched him instead.

"I…It just happened, he shouldn't have —"

"It's okay, he didn't say anything. No one has ever smacked that man in this house since birth, it's shocking that he let you," she giggled.

No wonder he's so stupid, a few smacks and slaps would've placed his head on the right track from childhood, now it's already too late to save him. At least he isn't forty yet, then he'd be a fool forever.

"I'll head back to my room now, dear. I'll see you around,"

"Yeah, sure,"

I let out a sigh and washed up the cups before I went back to my room, on my way I took a peak through Logan's room to find him staring at the window looking dejected like he'd commit suicide soon. That's his wife's problem, not mine for now, I hope they'd fix their issues.

When I got back I drifted into sleep again to wake up and find Rosita standing by the bed with a vacuum cleaner in hand.

"Good morning, Miss," she greeted.

"Hi," I greeted as I rubbed my eyes, the bright sun rays from the widely opened curtains blurred my sight.

How long have I been sleeping?

"Logan's nurse would like to see you,"

"Me? Why?"

"I don't know, she's at the door. Would you like her to come in?"

What happened this time? Did he report me to his nurse? Guess, we'll have to find out.

"Yeah sure," I answered, resting my head on the headrest.

The nurse walked in, she's an older woman dressed in a pair of black flats and a floral print flay dress.

Rosita left the room for the both of us to speak, I carefully reached out for a pocket knife on the table and slipped it under the duvet to hide it just in case she tries anything funny.

"Good morning, Miss Cassie, "

"Good morning, and you are? "

"Gerturde Perkins, "

Yep. Looks like a Gertrude to me.

"Oh, please have a seat or something, " this whole Miss. Politeness is killing me.

"Thank you, dear, " she grinned widely, her wrinkles stylishly popping out from both eyes.

Gertrude sat at the edge of the bed and I slipped my hands underneath to pull the pocket knife closer.

"I got a call from Madame Theresa she said she got a call from Logan's uncle, Harold who informed her that Lois went on an urgent business trip this morning,"

Harold? Isn't that the dude who's supposed to be away on a business trip? Has he returned? Why did Lois leave in short notice?

"I had no idea, "

"I didn't too but I've brought a few things like the list of his prescriptions and others for you —"

"Why?"

"Madame Theresa wants you to look after him while Lois is away, "

WAIT…WHAT?

"Umm ... .I wasn't informed of this arrangement, can you give me a few minutes to confirm from her?"

"Of course, dear. I would be in the living room, take as much time as you want," Gertrude said before taking her leave moments later.

Is she f*cking kidding me? I was hired to be a darn surrogate, not a nanny or caretaker. I'm definitely not doing this.

I sprung up from the bed, grabbed my phone from my drawer and dialed Theresa's number immediately and after a few rings, she answered the phone.

"Oh hey, Cassie," she chirped.

"Hi, umm…Gertrude came over,she said —"

"Oh yes dear, I'm in the middle of something now sorry so this would be quick. I want you look after Logan while Lois is gone it's just for two weeks,"

"Two weeks?"

"Yes, love. If it'll make you feel better I'll double your pay when I get back, two weeks is more than enough time to convince him about it, you know. Gertrude would drop by on weekends and you have Rosita to assist you,"

I sighed as I ran my hands through my hair, "But I —"

"I've got to go now, have fun!" Theresa exclaimed as she ended the call.

Two weeks? Convince him? Wait…. convince him?

As much as I hated this dude, two weeks is pretty much enough time to get to know him from his own lens, enough time to find the fortune and enough time to get out of here. Before I get converted into a sweet little Mattel product.

I guess his stubbornness is about to make things easier and if he doesn't comply the easy way, I'll use the hard way. I slipped in my robe, wore a pair of black soft slippers and strode to the living room after locking up my room.

Gertrude was already sipping a cup of tea offered to her by a maid and I sat in front of her.

"Let's get this done with,"
