Chapter 21 - Curious

Shane woke up from his dream with his breath coming fast. It was the same dream, and this time it was even more vivid. He was with Arthur, sitting by the river as he gazed into the water. However, the surging water prevented him from seeing the person's face. The face of the person who seemed to be himself. There was also no way that the face of the woman he felt himself to be was his face, if it had been his face before, Arthur would have recognized him.

Shane's breathing had started to become regular, he took a deep nap before looking around him, which turned out to be in Arthur's room. "Why is the dream getting real? Strangely, since sleeping in Arthur's room, I have dreamed the same thing, but I still can't see the face of the person who became me," said Shane.

Shane then got out of bed and walked outside Arthur's room. He kept walking, even though he didn't know if he was on the right path or not. "Good morning, Mr. Shane," Frederick said as Shane paused as he stood at the crossroads. He had to choose which way to go to his room.

"Morning," Shane replied.

"Fred, can you walk me to my room?" asked Shane, who had a confused look on his face.

"Sure, sir," Frederik replied with a smile.

"Come, follow me," Frederick said, and he walked first. He didn't walk right in front of Shane but walked beside him, still a step ahead because he had to show him the way.

Shane continued walking, while Frederick followed without asking where Arthur was. Although his head was now full of questions about where Arthur was, because Arthur usually met him and took him to his room.

"At least I don't have to serve him anymore. I didn't eat yesterday, and now I need to replenish my energy. I'm so hungry, it's a good thing I was able to wake up this morning," Shane said to himself.

It was quite a long way to reach his room, it felt very tiring. Plus, all day yesterday, no food entered his stomach. He had to serve Arthur continuously until finally he probably passed out, because after closing his eyes, he did not know what happened and woke up in the morning.

"If you need anything, just tell me, sir," Frederick said.

"I'd like a full breakfast, but no steak. Anything, because I'm very hungry. I'll go to the dining room later, so there's no need to take me to my room," Shane said.

"Yes, sir," Frederick replied.

After that, Frederick left to tell Elia to prepare food for Shane. Shane went to his room, and he cleaned his body. He used warm water to bathe. It felt quite refreshing and made his tired body feel energized again because of the warm bath.

After cleaning his body and getting dressed, Shane didn't go straight to the dining room. He lay down and stared at the ceiling of his room. His eyes scanned the surroundings. "Is this what makes this forest dangerous because it is indeed a place where wild animals live? But are they so cruel that no human ever returns to the city when he enters the forest?" he asked no one in particular.

"Are those humans actually still alive, and they live comfortably here, so they don't want to come out of the forest?" asked Shane, who was just staring at the ceiling of his room.

Even though he was safe, he didn't know if the stories of people who had entered this forest and not returned were because they were comfortable or if they fell prey to the werewolves in this forest. Remembering the humans, he remembered the meat he ate every morning. Arthur always ate steak every day—was it really animal meat or perhaps human meat?

"No, it's animal meat. There are rivers and fish out there, as well as vegetable gardens and fruit gardens. I asked them to cook me fish. I never saw what they ate either, because it was just me and Arthur at the table," Shane said.

He sat up and said, "No, they're werewolves. They must still consume food like normal humans. The humans who entered here and never came back probably felt comfortable living here. Although I don't know what they eat out there, However, if Arthur's garden alone is full of fruits and vegetables, wouldn't that be enough?" He asked no one in particular.

"Yes, that's right. Everything is already available here. They won't eat humans. If they ate humans, I wouldn't be here. But I'm still here and breathing," Shane assured himself that none of the werewolves in the forest ate humans.

After struggling with all the questions that only he could answer, Shane left his room and went to the dining room for breakfast. After breakfast, he followed the maid to the kitchen. For the first time, he was in the kitchen. The kitchen in this house still looks old-fashioned, and there is a stove to cook it on. However, the food served was not old-fashioned at all.

This kitchen was very different from the other rooms he had seen. It seemed very old-fashioned, just as Arthur's room seemed old-fashioned, unlike his room.

"Do you always cook all your meals here?" asked Shane as he approached the stove.

"Of course, Mr. Shane," Elia replied.

"Where do you store the meat and vegetables?" asked Shane, not seeing any refrigerators.

"We pick the vegetables from the garden, and the meat, we get it from the farmer who sells meat every day," Elia replied.

"There's no refrigerator, so you can store meat?" asked Shane.

"Sir Arthur does not like food that is not fresh, sir. If he eats food that isn't fresh, Sir Arthur will get angry," Elia replied.

"Does he know if the food is stored in the refrigerator?" asked Shane as he frowned.

"Of course, sir, food stored in the refrigerator and food that has just been picked from the garden taste different. The quality of the food is still very fresh for consumption, and Mr. Arthur can taste whether it is fresh or not," Elia replied with a smile.

"What about eating at a restaurant?" asked Shane because when he came to the office, they ate lunch outside.

"Restaurants are pre-ordered, so they prepare the ingredients they've just bought. Sometimes, we deliver the ingredients to the restaurants that Mr. Arthur visits. If the food isn't up to par, then we're all the ones who will get the wrath of Mr. Arthur.

"Hum, I see," Shane said, nodding his head.
