Chapter 24 - Living Together

Shane had now fully opened his eyes. "Does anything hurt?" asked Ruby as she stood next to Shane.

"Nothing," Shane replied, sitting up.

"Did you help me?" asked Shane.

"Yes," Ruby replied.

"Why are you suddenly in the middle of the road? My car almost hit you," Ruby asked.

"I was being chased by debt collectors, because I was too focused on avoiding them, I didn't realize I had run into the street," replied Shane.

"Chased by debt collectors?" asked Ruby. "You played gambling to get chased by debt collectors?" asked Ruby as she chuckled and her eyes narrowed at Shane.

Shane shook his head and said, "No, I don't play gambling. My grandparents were very sick, and I didn't have much money at the time, even though I had taken many jobs at once. So, I borrowed from a loan shark. Every month, I always paid, even though it wasn't the amount I should have paid. But earlier, they wanted to kill me because they weren't satisfied with the payments I made to them," Shane replied.

"You're not kidding?" asked Ruby, who was still squinting her eyes, looking at Shane suspiciously.

"No," Shane replied, shaking his head. "I'm not joking or lying," Shane continued to say.

"What's your name?" asked Ruby, who had stopped squinting.

"Shane Walton," Shane replied.

Ruby nodded her head. "Your ID card, why didn't you bring it?" she asked.

"I was in a hurry, so I left my card and phone at home," Shane replied.

Ruby nodded her head again. "Do you want to work with me?" she asked.

"What?" asked Shane, a little surprised that he was suddenly asked to work with the woman who helped him.

"Work with me as my personal assistant and bodyguard," Ruby replied.

"I want to," Shane replied enthusiastically.

Ruby smiled at that and extended her hand, which Shane immediately shook. "Welcome to working with me," Ruby said with a smile.

"Thank you, Miss, for giving me a job," Shane said with a smile.

"Come with me," Ruby said, and she walked away first. Shane got out of bed and followed Ruby.

Ruby walked to one of the doors in the penthouse and opened it. "It's a storage area, but can you clean it up so you can stay in this room?" Ruby said as she looked at Shane.

"I'm staying with you?" asked Shane, staring incredulously at Ruby.

They had just gotten to know each other, but how could Ruby be this nice? Giving him work when he didn't even have an ID card. Now, was she allowed to stay here? Isn't Ruby afraid that she might be a bad person?

"Do you mind staying here?" asked Ruby.

"Is it okay for me to stay here? We just met, aren't you afraid that I'm a bad person?" asked Ruby.

"I told you to stay, which means I have no problem at all with you staying here with me," Ruby replied.

Shane paused, wondering if it was okay for him to live with a woman he just met. However, she even helped him.

"Okay, I'll clean up the room," Shane said.

"I'll tell my manager to get you a bed, a wardrobe, and some clothes," Ruby said.

"Thank you," Shane said, and Ruby just smiled.

"Well, you clean up first," Ruby said.

"Yes," Shane replied briefly.

"Oh, yes. I don't know your name yet," Shane said as Ruby was about to leave.

"You don't recognize me?" asked Ruby as she frowned.

She was a famous model, did Shane not recognize her? Her face was plastered all over television, magazines, and billboards. It was impossible for Shane not to recognize her at all.

"Sorry, I didn't recognize you. Have we met before?" asked Shane, who felt bad for Ruby for not recognizing him.

"I have too much work to do, so I often forget about people if I've only met them once or twice," Shane said again as Ruby remained silent.

"I'm Ruby," Ruby said.

"Oh yeah, while you're cleaning up, do you want to eat something? If so, tell me what you want, and I'll order some food for you. I can't cook, so I'll order food for you and me," Ruby said.

"I eat anything," Shane replied.

"If I just order a salad, will you still eat it?" asked Ruby.

"Of course, you ordered food for me. I'm very grateful for that," Shane replied with a smile.

Ruby was speechless, this was the first time she had met a man like Shane. A man who would accept whatever she ordered. Usually there were men who said they liked to eat anything, but if she offered to only order a salad, they would protest. Why should they only eat salad?

"Oh yeah, the stuff in the warehouse—what about it?" asked Shane.

"Just take them out, you put together the same ones and the ones that are still good. If I still need it, I'll put it in my clothes room," Ruby replied.

"Okay then," Shane said, rolling up his black shirt to just above the elbow.

Shane began to clean the warehouse. Taking out the items first. After he took out all the items and organized them into items that were still fit for use and items of the same size, Shane walked over to Ruby, who had just come from the entrance carrying a plastic bag of food from one of the restaurants.

"Are you done?" asked Ruby as she stopped in front of Shane.

"No, I wanted to ask where the cleaning tool is," Shane replied.

"Then, let's eat together first. After eating, you can continue cleaning," Ruby said.

"You eat first. I'll finish my work first," Shane said.

Ruby held Shane's wrist. "Let's eat first, then I'll help you clean the room. I don't like eating alone when someone else is with me," Ruby said as she walked and held Shane's wrist.

They sat on the sofa in the television room, with Ruby pushing Shane to sit on the sofa. After that, it was her who sat on the sofa. Shane helped open his food. After finishing preparing his food, Shane stood up from his seat.

"I told you to eat first, then you continue cleaning," Ruby said as she looked up to stare at Shane.

"I need to wash my hands," Shane said as he showed her his dirty hands.

Ruby said no more and started eating her salad. Not only did she order a salad and a drink, but she also ordered a pizza. Shane came back and sat next to Ruby. They ate together without any conversation at all. Ruby was focused on her phone, and Shane was focused on his food, while elsewhere, at Arthur's house, everyone was looking for Shane. They couldn't find Shane anywhere at all. They couldn't find any human odor at all.

"How is this, Fred? If Mr. Shane isn't there, Mr. Arthur will be angry," asked Luca with a panicked look on his face.

"How did Mr. Shane get out? This whole building is covered in magic. So, Mr. Shane can't open the door even to reach the gate, Mr. Shane won't be able to get there if no one helps him," said Elia, who looked panicked just like Luca. She was afraid of getting punished by her master, especially since she was the last one with Shane.

Frederick was still silent, he didn't think that Shane had such great magic power that he could reach and open the gate. "Is it because of the incident that night that Mr. Shane got his power?" asked Fredrick silently.
