Chapter 4 - An Unknown World

Luke's journey following the arrow had been uneventful so far, he had been travelling for at least a day and a half now or so he guessed. He was so used to having a phone or a watch to be able to tell the time, not having to look at the sun and have to work it out from there, not that he could actually tell the time or anything, he could only tell if it was late or early and even that was prone to him making many mistakes in doing so, not that he really could tell if he was making mistakes or not.

Not to mention with all he was stuck having to carry had started to weigh him down, the straps were rubbing frequently on his skin, making him feel hot and sore, yet this was all he could do, it was not like he could just abandon the bag and all that it contained, or else who would know how long it would take him to reach wherever this arrow was taking him towards.

The only solace or rather, good point that he had been able to make out on his forced walk through nature, was just how beautiful the place he found himself seemed to be, from the fresh air, void of any kind of pollution, to the small animals and insects, flying and playing around as he made his way up and down the gentle rolling slopes. However it was the first time that he had found himself in such a place, then again the animals themselves he could only recognise a few of them, and only a few seemed similar to that of which he knew, but they still were different in some colour or form.

This included that of the plant life as well, it all seemed to be so familiar to him, and yet it was also all so different as well in so many ways, not that this put him off, it only entranced him even more. His fear of this new place was numbed down by this in part, and the horrors that he had seen of that battlefield too, were slowly being forced out of his mind and his desire to leave and go home, slowly had started to decrease.

Then as he cleared another hill, the lush emerald green forest slowly began to thin out, and through it he could make out a river, its clear blue water, flowing peacefully in the same direction that he had been heading. Aside from that he could hear the gentle plop of water, as some animal or seemingly fish as he caught a glimpse of the shining scales, moved in and out of the water.

Ignoring the arrow for now, he slowly walked over to the running river, looking over it further than the glimpses that he had already caught. He could not help but feel entranced as the calming aura it excluded began to settle over his mind and body, but deep down he knew that he could not spend that long here, he would run out of the food eventually, and he needed to find some kind of town so he could at least get something to eat, alongside some relative safety.

Sighing, softly he looked up to confirm that the arrow was still pointing in the same direction, to which it remained there unmoving and steady as it had been from the moment it had appeared.

After gathering some water for himself from the river, replacing what he had already drunk on his long forced nature walk, he soon set off following the path of the river as it followed peacefully through the forest, as he walked though he noticed that he forest was thinning out more and more, as well as that of the wildlife that he had seen earlier was slowly vanishing so that all he could now here, was that of the following water from the river.

Then just as it had been thinning out, he found himself outside of the forest, on an open grassland, however this was not all that could see. To Luke's complete and utter joy, there was a town in the far distance. He could only just make it out against the horizon but this was all that he needed.

Letting out an excited yell, he took off racing towards the town that he could see, quickly he soon found that he was getting closer and closer, and that town was getting bigger and bigger although it was starting to look more like a small city the closer and closer that he managed to get to it.

There was something that Luke did not notice however, and that being that he had run far further and faster than he ever had on back on Earth, so much so that he could have been considered to be a world class athlete if he was back on Earth.

Luke though soon began to slow down as he neared to the town itself, its imposing high walls catching him off guard. Looking at them, he could remember seeing walls like this as ruins around or rather within some of the cities that he had been to when he was younger, seeing such walls whole and having a use quickly reminded him that he was not on Earth anymore, and that he was instead on this new and unknown world.

Ignoring the arrow for know, as it had not moved in direction, instead just pointing at the wall that he could clearly not walk through, he began to move around the edge of the town, trying to find some kind of entrance into this place, meanwhile making a note in his head that he should not always just blindly follow this arrow.

As he moved around the edge of the wall, the sound of the river soon faded out to be replaced by the noise of people, talking and yelling, alongside that of the hammering of metal, or that of some other material.

Aside from that, he could see a part of the grassland had been given over to what appeared to be farmland, but much like that of the animals and plants that he had already seen as he trekked through the forest, he could not even begin to tell what kind of crop this was, although it did look a bit like the wheat that he had seen once as a boy.

Finally, after walking for a further time he had found the entrance way, which surprisingly was void of people, there was just what appeared to be a handful of guards standing there, they all talking among themselves, while leaning on spears that they were holding in their hands.

This however soon changed as they saw him, them all standing up right suddenly. Glaring at him with mistrust and suspicion, but at least Luke thought to himself, their spears were not being pointed at him.

"You there! Stop! Who are you? Why are you here? This is Rivertown! We do not need anyone that looks like you, so state your business or leave. You will not like the other outcome." The guard who must have been the leader of these men yelled at him with a sneer.

Luke just stopped, looking at them terrified. He did not expect this at all. He thought he would just be able to go inside! What even was this!

The guard leader, getting impatient soon yelled again, "You will answer or you will be killed."

The violet threat terrified Luke even more who just looked at them, his mouth open slightly, his eyes screaming fear.
