As the sun rose on the horizon, spreading an orange glow over the dirty alleys and cramped streets of the Democratic Republic of Kidonia, Kiros Leonidas woke with a sense of unease. The headache persisted, but he had grown accustomed to ignoring it. He rose from the threadbare mattress and walked to the broken window, watching the early movements of the street below.
Life in Kidonia was a daily battle for survival. Since Karl Lin Marx had come to power, the situation had deteriorated significantly. Each day, more people were evicted from their homes or disappeared at the hands of the republican police. Kiros knew that sooner or later, he too would be a target.
As he prepared for another day on the city streets, a hooded figure approached furtively at the entrance of the alley. Kiros tensed, ready for anything. But to his surprise, the figure lifted the hood to reveal a young elf woman with long silver hair and bright blue eyes.
"Are you Kiros Leonidas?" The elf's voice was soft yet carried an urgent tone.
"Who wants to know?" Kiros replied cautiously.
"One who seeks answers." The elf moved closer, revealing a crumpled piece of paper. "I have a message for you."
Intrigued, Kiros took the paper and unfolded it. Written in flowing script were the words: "Meet me in the depths. Trust no one."
Before Kiros could inquire further, the elf quickly withdrew, disappearing into the morning shadows. He examined the note once more, contemplating his next move.
Hours later, after avoiding several perilous encounters with republican guards on the bustling city streets, Kiros found himself standing before a discreet entrance in a dead-end alley. The entrance seemed to lead to an underground system of tunnels, dark and unfamiliar to most city dwellers.
"Should I trust this?" Kiros muttered to himself. But something inside him compelled him to proceed. With one last glance behind him, he entered the tunnels, guided by the promise of answers and the hope of a better future.
In the dark tunnels, the echo of his footsteps was his only company. Kiros moved cautiously, each shadow seeming to conceal unknown secrets and dangers. He finally reached an underground chamber, illuminated by rudimentary torches.
And there, in the center of the chamber, stood the elf who had sought him earlier. She smiled faintly upon seeing him, but there was a noticeable tension in her gaze.
"Kiros Leonidas," she began, her voice echoing off the damp walls. "I am Lyra, and I am here to reveal the truth you seek."
Kiros swallowed nervously, preparing himself for what would come next.
