Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - New World

Allan opened his eyes and found himself inside of what seemed like a church.

"Welcome Avatar! The gods have warned us of your presence and we've been waiting your appearance." A priest was saying while he was approaching. All that Allan could heard were some weird words coming out of the priest mouth but then it somewhat made sense inside of his head.

"Hello! Where am I? What is this place?" Said Allan.

"You're in the church of the Azure God. We're in a town called Red Orchard." Said the priest.

"And how do I call you?" Asked Allan.

"I'm called Bruno. I'm a healer priest of the Azure God church. And you, how may I call you?"

"I'm Allan, nice to meet you!"

"So, Avatar Allan, what are you gonna do now?"

"I'm not sure, I don't know much about this world yet. May I ask why you call me Avatar?"

"The Azure God only told us that some people will be entering our world and they are avatars. A force that was invited to our world by the gods." Explained Bruno.

"Oh, invited huh. Do you know the currency in here?"

"We use copper and silver coins, but there are also some gold coins eventually. A hundred coppers make a silver coin and a hundred silver make a gold coin. But you'll normally find people using copper most of the time, since silver and gold is quite rare."

"I see. Also is there magic in this world? I know I'm under a spell to understand your language but can people also use magic here?" Allan asked. Normally he loves to play as mage and swordsman, preferably he likes to combine this class in most games when he can, but he prefers mage overall.

"Well, the language spell isn't really magic, it's more of an application of mental power. Magic comes from the spirit root. Come with me." Then Bruno walked over a crystal ball above a pedestal. "Place your hand in this crystal and try to extend your consciousness inside of it. Just think of your hand getting inside of this ball."

Allan did as told and a faint white glow shined for a few seconds.

"Tsk. Tsk. You have no Spiritual Root. Look how it reacts to mine." Then Bruno placed his hands on the crystal ball. Suddenly a purple glow shined all around inside the church. "See this purple color. It means I have the Wooden Spiritual Root. That allows me to use the wood element to a such extent and practice magic with it."

"I see. Is there a way to change this?"

"There is, but there is no point in doing so, since it's too rare to find it. There are some treasures like some crystals or some rare plants that can improve your spiritual root if consumed. But it's a waste of resources to use it on mortals. The spiritual root is an organ inside of you that manipulates the spiritual energy around us. Everyone has them, but some people have it better developed from birth, making them able to use magic. You can improve the spiritual root with some treasure, but sects keep these treasures hidden, that are quite rare to begin with, so that they can use them on their genius disciples."

"Sects? What are those?" Allan asked.

"In this world, people that have a strong spiritual root from birth can become disciples from sects when they're children. The sect will nurture them to become immortals. The better the spiritual root, the faster these disciples will grow into becoming powerful."

"I see. What about the mental energy you mentioned before?"

"Oh, mental energy is nothing much, it's just the power of your mind. It's not considered magic since it doesn't use spiritual energy. Everyone start with the same amount of mental energy and it's quite difficult to increase it. But you can train harder and learn how to use it more efficiently. I can teach you some meditation technique to practice your mental power if you want."

"I would love if you could help me with this." Said Allan with a smile. He was already plotting in his head that treasures to increase the spiritual root would be the core of this game. He needed to find them, use them on himself and his friends, then sell to other players later.

"Take this book and learn it well, there is no need to give it back to me since most people have access to this book." Said Bruno as he took a book from a shelf nearby.

Allan took the book that was written in some weird language, but for some reason he could understand this language in his head. On the cover of the book was written [Mind Waterfall]

"Thank you! I'll definitely study it." Allan then placed the book inside his shirt. Right now he was wearing some kind of tunic with a belt. It allowed him to store some small items in his clothes for now. "Do you know a way to make money, and preferably increase my combat capabilities a little?"

"Hmm, let me think. I guess you can be a hunter and bring game to the butcher of the village. I can introduce him for you, if you like." Said Bruno.

"This perfect." After they walked out of church and Bruno led the way towards the butcher. On the way, Bruno was introducing the village to Allan. Allan was also paying attention to many things as he walked through the village, mainly the price of the things being sold.

"Allan, this is Roderick. He is the village butcher. Roderick, this is Allan, he'll be staying with us for a while."
