Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 - Being hunted

Arriving at the small village after hunting, Allan went straight to the village butcher. Roderick wasn't expecting Allan to comeback so soon, but he was glad anyway.

"So what did you get out there?" Asked Roderick.

"I managed to catch two rabbits and a giant rat." Said Allan while offering his game to Roderick.

"Hmm, lemme check." Roderick then started to analyze the meat. "The meat is good, and there is no cuts, I can pay you 4 coppers each. They're pretty much the same size and weight after all."

"Sure, nice doing business with you!" Said Allan while grabbing the copper coins from the counter.

"This made me think, you're very polite, even more than the people from the church and perhaps even the aristocrats. Are all 'Avatars' like that?" Said Roderick.

"To be honest I wouldn't think so, if I'm not mistaken, some will reveal their true colors in this world since they won't be able to be judged by us on our world. So they'll eventually wreak havoc."

"Well, there is always some evil people everywhere." Roderick sighed. "In here, it doesn't seem like it, but we have a slight fear of the demonic sects, they can annihilate a whole villa in a single night just to gain more powers."

"I see. If I'm not mistaken, some avatars will learn about it eventually, and will try to do the same. So if you can keep it hidden from then it's better. I hate killing the innocents. On the contrary, I like to keep as many people alive as possible, that way I can find a way to profit from them, not in a bad way though, it's by trading and commerce."

"Good to know. I thought all of them are polite like you. But they'll find out eventually, since it's pretty much common knowledge. But to be honest, they won't live long, the righteous sects don't allow these evil sects to thrive, specially in their territory. But they are pretty selfish as well, so they can turn a blind eye if they can get anything from it."

"Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I intend on searching from some of my friends though, so I might leave the village after repaying Bruno."

"I'll be honest with you, you should avoid leaving the safe zone around the town. There are too many monsters. It's better if you stay here." Roderick exclaimed.

"But isn't there any merchants that come here, so there must be some safe zones right?"

"The merchants so come, but they have an army of mercenaries to protect them. And even then, they only come once each two months, due to the difficulty of traveling around." Roderick explained.

"I see, I'll find a way. Well, thank you, I'll be going, I have something to talk with Priest Bruno. Bye" Allan bid farewell and left towards the church.

"What can I do for you, Avatar Allan?" Bruno welcome Allan.

"Not much, I just want to give you my profits for today, I hate owing others to be honest." Said Allan.

"You should save it, to me, this kind of money isn't much. But for you it's already something, like today's food." Said Bruno.

"It's alright, I ate some fruits on the forest."

"You should take better care of your body, only fruit will leave you weak, you should eat a proper meal. Keep the money, when this money doesn't affect you anymore, you can give it back."

"Okay, do I'll take my leave."

Allan then bought something to eat and some went straight to the forest again.

He checked his traps abut they were still armed. "I guess that when they can see it, they easily avoid the trap."

Allan then tried to return to his meditation spot, but on the way, he heard something behind him. When he looked at it, he couldn't believe it. There was a orange boar with a flaming mane.

"Shit, why is there a monster in here." He could only deduce it was a monster, since it had a flaming mane. "Run." Allan then started running towards the traps, he thought that perhaps some of the traps could hold this monster. But he underestimated the strength of a monster. The boar charged without fear. The only thing that kept Allan alive was that the boar kind of didn't change directions when charging into something.

But the chase did take a while, around 15 minutes Allan was already lost, he didn't want to lose his gains from the last day, specially the money. So he kept running away and letting the boar charge into the trees or boulders. But suddenly he fell into a small hole on the ground, and started rolling on inclined slope. The boar also didn't fall well and started falling and rolling on the ground.

Allan lost consciousness and he could already predict the outcome of his fall, he would surely die. But to his surprise he was still alive, he woke up an found his items all spread on the floor. Next to him there was a red boar impaled in an stalagmite . It had bled out a lot and there was blood all over the floor.

"Where am I? Shit, how do I get back."
