Barbara slipped into the carriage with a face full of smiles. She handed the wrapped cakes to Kristie, who took them without thanking her. She was about to sit facing Kristie.
"Who allowed you to sit? Out," Kristie ordered, and she stood in awe.
"But—" Barbara thought that she succeeded in softening Kristie's heart, but she was wrong. "I won't go," she declared, taking a seat opposite her.
"Do not let me throw you out," Kristie stated, clenching her jaw.
"I am here to apologize to you. We both were wrong. You spoke ill about me and I did the same, so we are even," Barbara said stubbornly.
"Stop the carriage!" Kristie shouted, and the coachman did as she ordered.
"Lady Barbara, is there anything wrong?" Conner sounded from the outside.
Barbara panicked, thinking that she was about to be thrown out. She squinted her eyes while Kristie gazed at her. "There is a deal between us," she threatened, reminiscing about the contract they signed.
