Chapter 23 - The Ambush

A short while later, Victor Von Domon called out to both Marcy and Moore, directing them to a private room in the restaurant. After making sure they were alone, he said, "I have something important to discuss with you both." It seemed Tony Blend had hired a cleaner to assassinate them, with a particular focus on Mr. Moore. Victor's words came as a shock to both Moore and Marcy. Moore, who seemed confused, could only stare at Victor as if he were a painting on the wall. Marcy, with a blunt expression on her face, let out a sigh. Victor noticed their reactions and continued, "You both need to be very careful now. The cleaner is the fifth-ranked assassin in Concordia. He is a specialist in hand-to-hand combat, skilled in the use of swords and knives. He is also a master of poison and an expert in face mask technology, meaning he can disguise himself as anyone." Victor paused for a moment to let the information sink in. Looking at Marcy and Moore, he couldn't help but wonder what they were thinking. Moore, who seemed distracted, suddenly remembered something and calmly asked Victor, "When can we expect him?" Marcy seemed interested, her eyes filled with a sense of dread at the mention of the assassin's arrival. Victor, a man of many talents and a network of spies, replied bluntly, "He is already here. He arrived two nights ago. My best guess is that he is watching you now and will make his move soon. We need to protect you from now on." Marcy questioned, "Why don't we use Moore as bait to lure him out, instead of waiting for him to attack?""That way, we can ambush him along the way," Moore thought for a while before saying, "I know one thing about fishing: the worm used as bait to lure the fish always ends up dying. So, one thing I know is that the bait always ends up dying." "So, you guys want me to die?" Moore casually remarked. Victor and Marcy could only stare at each other with a grim expression on their faces.

Sensing their frustration and hesitation, Moore let out a laugh and said, "I was only joking. Of course, I will let you use me as bait if it means catching this guy." "We just need a good plan," added Victor.

After about half an hour of discussing, Moore and Marcy got into their car to leave. Victor walked up to them and reminded them to be safe. Halfway through their journey, there was an explosion and the sound of a tire bursting. Marcy had to struggle hard to control the steering wheel before bringing the car to a stop. Marcy, calming herself down, turned to Moore and asked, "Are you okay?" "I'm okay," replied Moore. They both got out of the car to inspect what had happened. Moore noticed a nail-like object on the road while Marcy checked the tires. Sensing something amiss, Marcy instinctively yelled at Moore, "It's a trap!" Before they could react, several shining objects were sent flying towards them.Marcy somersaulted twice and did a few backflips before evading the shining needle-like objects. Moore, on the other hand, felt death closing in around him and immediately went into a trance-like state, emitting a burst of pure energy that deflected the needle-like objects. These objects were raining down on them heavily. Moore's energy created a protective barrier around him, and he instinctively reached out to shield Marcy from the objects. Shortly after, a dozen men emerged from their hideout. The apparent leader spoke with a calm demeanor. "I am impressed you were able to escape from my impressive trap. No one has ever escaped from the death needle before." Moore wondered to himself, "Who is this mysterious person? Or is he the so-called cleaner?" Marcy spoke, breaking Moore from his thoughts. "You call this a trap? Even my grandmother could do better than this." Marcy exuded her usual confidence and fearlessness. The leader sneered, but his face remained expressionless. Moore struggled to compose himself and asked the obvious question. "Who are you, and what do you want with us?" The leader of the men let out a ferocious smile before saying, "I am not compelled to give out my name to those who are about to die. But if you manage to survive this, I will tell you who I am." Marcy made a cheeky remark, "Are you suggesting that you are about to die?" Moore corrected her, "No, he is saying that he won't tell us his name until we subdue him." The leader became impatient and screamed at Moore and Marcy, saying, "I was prepared to go easy on you guys, but because of your impetuousness, I have decided otherwise." He yelled out to the rest of the men, "Kill them!" The men moved in a synchronized way, which was evidence that they were well-trained. They maneuvered their way to surround Moore and Marcy and were prepared to strike when, all of a sudden, Victor Von Domon and the rest of the Westside gang popped out of nowhere and surrounded the men. Taken aback by the sudden turn of events, the leader and his men were left in a state of despondency. Victor sensed panic and hesitation from the dozens of men and immediately launched into the attack. Without breaking stride, he and the Westside gang put down the dozens of men with great ease. Moore, with eyes like those of a demon, walked up to the leader and spoke with a calm demeanor, "Now that you are about to die, will you tell me your name and who sent you?" The leader gritted his teeth before saying, "What's the point of me telling you my name when I am about to die?" Marcy sneered ruthlessly before saying, "I have ways to make you talk, so we can do it the easy way or the hard way. To tell you the truth, I prefer to do it the hard way."
