Okito Tanaka is the only ninja from his family, the first in 3 generations with the ability to utilize chakra. His family runs a bakery that is one of the best in the village and, when not on missions, is typically there helping
out.
Okito possesses a Kekkei Genkai, one of the extremely rare Elemental Fusion bloodline abilities. Tanaka's ability allows him to combine Fire and Earth chakra to generate Diamond techniques, much in the way of the First Hokage with his rare Wood jutsus. The diamonds are stabilized matter, which means
that they remain even after Okito ceases using his chakra to make them.
Nicknamed "The Diamond Blade" for the double-edged sword he wields made of ultra-dense diamond from tip to tang crafted over the course of several years named 'Amakuni Kongosoha.'
Okito does not wear ANY of the vital area protection-type armors typically worn by ninja because of his abilities which allow him to form plates and scales of industrial-grade diamond at will on his skin.
When he keeps chakra flowing through the plates after they form, they form an Absolute Defense that nothing save for another chakra-infused diamond blade - or something of equivalent hardness -
can penetrate and is able to deflect most jutsu attacks completely. This ability earned him the nickname "The Diamond Turtle."
Tanaka became a Chuunin on his first attempt and was assigned as an assistant/
bodyguard for the Third Hokage for 7 years until earning the rank of Jonin and tasked to help augment the defenses of critical facilities by giving them diamond reinforcements. This assignment lasted for 4 years and he was permitted to then choose his next assignment. As he had been on an ultra-sensitive assignment, Okito had not been allowed to be in contact with his family, save for the occasional phone call when he had access to secure communications; and even those had a limit of 10 minutes, typically every other month. As a result, he chose to given the chance to lead a team of Genin.
Okito got into a heated debate with the Sandaime over the selection of his team. He had hoped to have Naruto Uzumaki assigned to his team - feeling some kinship for the Jinchuuriki of the Kyuubi, having spent most of his youth as an outcast - but Hokage Sarutobi decided to assign Uzumaki to Kakashi Hatake's team for reasons that the Hokage chose not to reveal. Despite that, Okito has decided to trust in the Sandaime's wisdom about his assigned team and is
determined to prove that the Hokage's trust in him is not unfounded.
