Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

Entering inside Adrianne's room felt like being embraced by nature, well to Maria that is. It felt like a completely safe haven that one can run away to when the outside world was being too much to handle.

Maria's eyes looked at the plants that were at almost all the corners of the room. Her bed was covered deep green bed cover almost blending into the nature tone of the room.

Adrianne walked to the middle of the room and told her to sit on the ground, which she did. She watched as Adrianne walked to the corner of the room where a dresser was placed. Opening one of the drawers she brought out three candles from it along with a match box.

She then returned to where Maria was sat patiently waiting for her. She sat in a crisscross position and then placed the candles in three different forms that created a triangle.

She took match box, removed a stick from it and lit it up using her hands to cover it up so that the air around the place won't blow it out.

She lit up the candles that were placed on the floor. Maria observed she was doing, she decided to ask a question.

"What exactly are you doing?"

"I am conducting a seance. You said a moment ago that you wanted to know if your fiancee was actually planning on marrying someone else, right?" She asked, and Maria nodded her head. "So we are going to get that answer."

"But, how are we going to get the answer?" Maria asked looking at things she set with confusion.

"By conducting a seance," Adrianne said sounding like a teenager that was up to mischief.

"A seance? If this is some type of joke..."

"It's no joke." Adrianne said cutting her off. "Do you by any chance believe in witches and witchcraft?"

"No, I mean they don't exist do they?"

"You believe in a human being having the actual ability to change into a big furry creature, but you don't believe in witches?" Adrianne deadpanned.

Maria kept quiet, she did have a point to be honest.

When Adrianne didn't hear any other word from Maria, she then proceed to conduct the seance. She closed her eyes and began to chant some words in a language that Maria couldn't seem to decipher.

Then suddenly lightened strike across the window, and the rain that was once reducing intensify. Maria was starting to get scared, looking at Adrianne as the chanting became louder. The house seemed to be shaking at the foundation, like an earthquake.

The bookshelf that was suited next to the dresser was shaking but none of the books fell down. Maria started yelling at her to stop, she was getting scared. Sadly, Adrianne didn't seem to hear what she was saying.

Maria suddenly felt like she was in some sort of horror movie, in which Adrianne was about to be possessed by an evil spirit.

Then suddenly everything became calm and quiet, Adrianne had stopped chanting, she opened her eyes. But it wasn't Adrianne eyes, they eye color looked different.

Maria came closer, under the warm light of the candles. It wasn't only her eyes that were different, her face was different as well.

It looked almost identical to Jeffery's. "Maria?" A smile appeared on Adrianne's face.

"Yes Adrianne it's me."

"Adrianne? Who is Adrianne?" A confused look was plastered on Adrianne's face.

"I-i don't understand? Is this some sort of joke?"

"No no no no. Maria it's me Jeffery." Hearing his name made her calm down a little.

"Jeffery? Is-is that really you?" Maria asked coming closer to place her hands on his cheeks.

Jeffery (Adrianne) hands reach out and held her hands softly. "Yes it's me Jeffery, my love. How much I have missed you."

"Not as much as I missed you." She said with a sad smile on her face.

"I should have listened to you that day, i shouldn't have gone for that stupid hike in the woods."

"It's ok, it's ok." Maria said rubbing her fingers on his cheeks.

"I hope you are ok, I have been worried about you, I am surprised that I can finally see you and touch you again after months of being away from you."

Maria wished that she could have small talk with him and get him to catch up with things happening to her. But she had questions to ask him.

She removed her hands from his cheeks and put a more serious expression on her face. Jeffery noticed that her expression had shifted to a much serious one.

"What's wrong?" He asked, with worry in his tone.

"Did you ever cheat on me with anybody?" She didn't know how long it would take before the soul swapping would last, so its best if she doesn't waste any more time.

"Cheat, babe I never cheated on with anybody. Where are you getting this ideas from?"

"I met up with your sister some few hours ago and she told me that your mother didn't want the both of us to get married, cause I am not from America. She said that you agreed to break things off with me and get married to another women. Is this true Jeffery?"

Jeffery let out a laughter, but Maria wasn't amused in the slightest. He saw that she wasn't laughing along with him so he comported himself and got into a serious mode.

"Yes, she actually planned on getting me engaged to another woman," he said. "But please keep it in mind that what my sister said about me agreeing to it, is completely false."

It was as if a wave of relief hit Maria as soon as he said those words.

"Thank God, I legit thought that you were cheating on me with someone else."

"You know I would never do that to you, when my mom came at me with idea I turned it down completely. I told her that I am grown enough to fall in love with whoever I want too, irrespective of race or social status."

"I am so glad, Jeffery." She said with tears streaming down her face as she smiled.

"Its ok, hearing this most definitely made question a lot of things now didn't it."

Maria nodded her head, and Jeffery let out a sigh and stared at her with so much love and affection in his eyes.

"I need to leave, I guess I would probably see you around?"

"Yeah, we shall see." She said wanting him to stay a little bit longer. Then suddenly he left and Adrianne returned back to her body.

It was when Adrianne returned back to her body that she realized that she didn't tell him that she still loves him.
