When Maria went to work the next day, she saw that the entire police division looked glum. They were all whispering amongst themselves, but as soon as she entered inside they all kept quiet and went back to their work.
Maria couldn't help but feel like something was off somewhere, as she walked towards her office they were all giving her a sad look. Which made her even more suspicious.
So instead of entering her office, she walked straight to Giovanni's office. She knocked on the door before she opened it, smoke was in the air and the smell of tobacco lingered around.
Maria let out a cough, while holding her nose. Giovanni looked up from his computer screen, he greeted her good morning.
"Apologies for the sudden smoke around here, just need to clear my head," he stood up from his sit and went to open the windows to let the smoke out.
Maria went and sat down on the visitor chair, with the smoke disappearing she could finally breath properly.
"I never took you the smoker type."
"I don't smoke. Well I don't do firsthand smoking, it's more of second hand smoking." Giovanni came and sat back on his chair. "Is there a reason why you are here?"
"Yes, everybody is looking quite glum around this part. And my guts is telling me that something really terrible happened."
"You haven't heard the news have you?"
A look of confusion appeared on her face as she shook her head no.
Giovanni let out a huff of breath, "why do I have to be the one to say this to you?" He muttered underneath his breath.
"What exactly are you talking about?" Maria could feel her stomach tied up in knots, this whole thing was giving her a stomach ache.
"Anna is dead." As soon as he said it, she felt the content in her stomach rush up to her throat, and her hand quickly reach out for the trash can that was on the floor next to her and let it out. She dropped the trash can, there goes her breakfast.
She placed her elbows on the table, using her fingers to rub her temples. "H-how?" She asked, her throat already cracking.
"There were scratches on her face and her body, it looked like she was assaulted as well."
Maria felt tears pricked at the corner of her eyes. Why did Anna have to die? Who could have killed her?
"She probably bled to death, due to there being claw shaped holes at her back."
Maria covered her face with her hands. She suddenly stood up.
"Where are you going too?" Giovanni asked, Maria didn't answer him, instead she left his office in a rush.
Giovanni followed her outside, she was walking super fast as if being pursued by something. He grabbed her by the arm before she walked through the front doors.
"What?!" Maria exclaimed.
"I don't want you doing something irrational due to the death of your friend, I know that you are going through a lot right now, but please calm down."
"I am not going to do anything irrational, I just need to go somewhere."
"Where exactly are you going too? Don't you have work to do or something?"
"Let go of my arm." Giovanni let go of her arm, and Maria straightened her shirt.
Then she walked away, with Giovanni just watching her go. The look in her eyes looked like one of desperation and anger.

Maria got to her car, unlocking the doors she got in and then placed her hands on the steering wheel. It was like a dam broke as she began crying, tears falling down her cheek. It was a silent cry filled with pain and anguish.
She used the back of her hands to wipe her tears away, she then reach out for her phone, clicking in contacts and scrolling through the ones she has with her.
She then decided to call Micael, she just hoped that he picks up the phone.
"Hello?" His voice sounded raspy like as if he just woke up from sleep.
"Micael," She cried out.
"Woah, woah. What's happening, why are you crying?" He asked with a concern tone.
"Can you please come over, I need to talk to somebody. Anybody," she sniffed.
"It's ok, just tell me where we can meet up?"
Maria told him that they should meet up at central park, then she ended the call.
Her hands reach for the rearview mirror to look at her reflection, her face looked like a mess right now, her eyes were swollen and red, her face looked puffy.
She let out a laugh, it was a laugh of anguish and pain. She then put in the car in the ignition and drove off to the direction of central park.

She got there and sat on the bench, she checked the time on her phone and it it was quarter past 2. She looked around to see if Micael was anywhere there, she managed to sight him at the far side of the park.
As soon as he saw, he hasten his steps and got to where she was. He sat next to her, before he could say anything she held onto him bawling her eyes out.
Micael gingerly place his hands on her shoulder, she was getting his shirt soaked with her tears, but he didn't say anything cause she most definitely needed to cry.
After she was done crying, she removed herself from him and wipe her tears away with her hands.
She looked at the wet spot on his shirt and apologize for staining it, he told her not to worry about it.
"So, what happened?" Micael asked curious what would cause her to shed tears like that.
"I lost my best friend, her name was Anna. We go way back to police academy."
"I am so sorry about your lost."
"Thank you," she said smiling a small smile at him. "I feel like it's the same person that killed my fiancee that killed my best friend. It's like the person is targeting me."
"Targeting you? I doubt that?"
"Then why is the people that I love being targeted."
"I don't know, maybe coincidence." Maria glared at him which made him retract his words. "My bad, don't attack me. I just feel like those aren't the only two people that he has killed you know."
"You know, now I really need to know who this son of a bitch is. I need to know what his deal is, why did Anna and Jefferey have to go like that."
"Should we head to my place?"
Maria nodded her head, "yeah, let's do that."
