It started raining, Maria looked outside the window as the rain fall drops slid down the window pane.
Jefferey's sister brought out a cigarette from the packet of cigarettes that was in the breast pocket of her jacket. Lighting up along with the lighter that she held in her hands, she blew out the smoke from her lips and watched it fade away into the air.
Maria coughed a little, on seeing this Jefferey's sister put out the cigarette.
"So, basically your mom never liked me. How is that my problem?" Maria asked.
"If Jeffery was alive, you wouldn't have married him."
"Well to bad he is dead," she knew she shouldn't be so insensitive, but for some reason what she said about her not being able to marry Jeffery due to his mother not liking her, pissed her off so badly.
"She had already prepared someone for him. Someone more American."
"I think I've heard enough," she stood up and was about to walk away when Jefferey's sister called her.
"Wait, I also want to tell you something else..."
Maria turn around. "What else do you want to say to me?"
"That Jeffery was cheating on you with the woman that our mother gave to him."
"You're lying, I am done with your shit." She walked out of the eatery underneath the rain, running towards her car, unlocking it she entered inside the driver's seat.
She held the steering wheel tightly that it almost felt like her palm were getting numb. She felt her breathing getting heavy.
She forgot to ask Jeffery's sister how she got her phone number. She just didn't want to believe what his sister was saying, there was no way that he would ever cheat on her. Yes she was of a different race and country than him, but he loved her, or did he.
Her mind was reeling with the possibility that he actually had another lover, maybe she was just over thinking.
She needed to head back home. She started up the car and drove down the road with the intention of heading home. Instead she saw herself heading to the direction of Micael's house.
She parked the car just directly in front of the woods, it looked like they have also added more signs telling people to ward off the place.
She got out of the car, it was still raining but not as heavy as it was when it first started. She walked down the familiar path that led to Micael's place, on getting there she knocked on the door.
Placing her hands behind her back as she bounce on the heels of her feet waiting patiently for him to answer the door.
The door handle was shaking and then the door open and out came a very beautiful woman with caramel skin and one of the most thickest hair that she has ever seen.
She was completely mesmerized by how pretty she was that she couldn't even bring herself to talk.
"Um, who are you?" Adrianne realized that her tone of word was quite rude, then she rephrased her words.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude."
Maria snapped out of her reverie, "oh, I'm sorry. You didn't sound rude in anyway, it just that I got distracted."
"Distracted by what?"
'By how pretty you are.' Maria said in her mind.
"By the fact that there is a girl in Micael's place. Are you by any chance his girlfriend?"
"No, we are not dating in any form of way. We just happen to live in the same house together. Would you like to come, it's kind of cold outside." Adrianne offered.
"I would love too," Maria said. Adrianne let her in and Maria was enveloped with the sweet smell of brownies.
"You are baking brownies?"
"Yes I am, would you like some?"
Maria nodded her head, Adrianne walked into the kitchen, putting on oven gloves and bringing out the brownies from the oven. She took it to the living room, and place on top the table.
"Ah, I forgot the milk. Just give me a sec, also you can sit down if you want too."
Maria did as she was told, getting comfortable in the seat, she looked around the living room and she realized that it looked different compared to the previous times that she was here. Especially the furniture.
Adrianne came back with two long glasses of milk, she handed one over to Maria, while holding one in her hand. She sat down next to Maria and pick up a brownie, Maria followed suit.
"Where's Micael?" Maria asked, curious about the where he was.
"He went for his usual evening walk."
"Does he go for an evening walk all the time?" Maria asked, Adrianne nodded.
"What brings you here?" Adrianne asked, dipping the brownie into the milk before taking a bit out of it.
"Oh, I was actually planning on heading on home tonight, but for some reason I saw myself heading towards the direction in my cat," she let out a small laughter.
"Is there something wrong?"
"Um, there is nothing wrong. Why are you asking?"
"I can sense that there is something troubling your soul." Adrianne said sounding quite older than her age.
"Well, there is something troubling my soul." Maria admits.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Adrianna dropped her glass of milk on the table, to pay more attention to her.
"My life has been a mess, first my fiancee dies during the month of our wedding. Then suddenly his sister comes and tell me that his mom doesn't like me because I am not American..."
"Oh, that sounds racist," Adrianna said her face set up in disgust.
"I know right. And his sister also tells me that his mom set him up with an all American lady, who he actually had plans on marrying. That he was going to dump me for her." She let out a sigh, she felt a bit relieved that she could speak to someone.
"I'm sorry for what happened to you. But do you actually believe what his sister says?
Maria hesitated to answer, and Adrianne noticed the hesitation. "Don't answer the question if you don't feel comfortable."
"I honestly don't know, a part of me wants to believe that she is lying. But another part is telling me that what she is saying might be the truth."
"Do you want to know the truth?"
Maria looked at her, then nodded her head.
"Follow me," Adrianne stood up, and stretched out her hand for her place her hands on. She did, and she carried her inside towards the direction of her room. With the intention of conducting a seance.
