Chapter 34 - Helping a blind human

The sun had risen above the horizon, shining in all its glory. The Nolan family were already up and had started their morning chores. Mrs Nolan was already preparing to go her shop and Mr Nolan was getting ready to leave for the palace when Gabrielle and Mirabelle walked up to him. "Papa, Mirabelle has something to tell you" Gabrielle said to her father. "What is it my princess?" Mr Nolan turned to Mirabelle. Mirabelle told her father her dream and the man was just as worried as she was. "You know what? You'd follow me to the palace, we'd see the king and tell him about the dream okay? Get ready quick so we can head off" Mr Nolan said and Gabrielle helped Mirabelle to freshen up and get in the carriage with her father. Mirabelle was quite nervous to meet the king because being in his presence made her feel intimidated.

Helena had woken up early while her roommates were still asleep. She struggled to get up from the bed as she held unto her bruised body. She quickly went to the bathroom and washed up. She needed to impress the king today at all costs. After she was dressed with the clothes from the servants wardrobe, the head servant walked inside the room taking her by surprise. "Good morning Helena". The startled Helena said "Good morning...." She waited for the head servant to say her name. "Evon" the head servant revealed her name. "Good morning madam Evon" Helena said. "You're up early. You really want to get on the good side of the king". "Yes milady" Helena concurred.

"Well, let's put some ointments on your injuries first. Then we'd be off to work. You can work right? Since you're up early, I take it that you can work" Evon said as her red eyes glistened with excitement.

"Yes I can milady" Helena answered giving a fake smile. The woman knew Helena's smile was fake but ignored it. She just decided to think that the girl wasn't so excited about trying to get on the good side of the king. After all, it wasn't an easy task.

"Sit" Evon said and Helena did as she was told. Evon treated Helena's wound and after she was done, they set off to work.

Mr Nolan had reached the castle and Marcus helped Mirabelle out of the carriage. Klaus remained in the Nolan's house, looking after Kayden and Gabrielle.

As expected, Sebastian was in the garden for his morning walk. A messenger informed Mr Nolan that the king was in the garden and he quickly went to the garden with Mirabelle and Marcus. The garden was big and the side Sebastian was had tall flowers and trees that piqued his interest. He was walking along a path, inhaling the sweet scents from the flowers and basking in the glory of the sun when a messenger ran up to him and bowed down. "Milord". Sebastian turned around, waiting for the man to state his reason for coming to him. "The Gardner is here for his duties milord. But he brought his daughter for reasons I do not know". An emotion flashed in Sebastian's eyes and a smile appeared on his lips. "The Nolan daughter is here? Which of them?" Sebastian asked to be sure. "The one with the brown hair milord" the messenger said. Sebastian waved his hand, signalling the man to leave.

Few minutes after the messenger left, Mr Nolan came up to Sebastian. "Milord" he bowed. "Mr Nolan! Good to see you back on your feet" Sebastian had a wide smile on his face.

"It's good to see you too milord" the man returned the smile. "My garden has some weeds, I'm sure you'd take care of it now you're here" Sebastian said and Mr Nolan said "I'll certainly do that milord". "I heard your daughter is here. Why?" Sebastian asked, masking his excitement. After hearing that it was the daughter with brown hair, he knew it was Mirabelle because he had seen Gabrielle at the burial of Matthew and that daughter of Mr Nolan had black hair. Sebastian felt elated. He would set his eyes on that innocent being again. He couldn't explain it but seeing the blind human girl got him excited.

"As life would have it, my daughter has something she wants to tell you milord. If you'd give her your attention" Mr Nolan said. "I see. Where's she?" The king feigned ignorance. He could smell her around but it was better he kept that information to himself.

"Mirabelle?" Mr Nolan called out and Marcus and Mirabelle who were standing some metres away, came walking towards the King and Mr Nolan.

"Milord" Marcus and Mirabelle greeted but the voice that only registered in Sebastian's mind was Mirabelle's. "You can leave us" Sebastian said to Mr Nolan and Marcus. "Milord she can't...." "I know that Mr Nolan and I won't let any harm come to her." Sebastian cut Mr Nolan off. Mr Nolan wanted to tell the king that the girl couldn't see and she'd need his assistance to walk with the king but it seemed the king didn't mind helping a Gardener's daughter walk without getting harmed.
