Chapter 23. Please remember me
"Ava, what's wrong?", Mrs Bateman asked her heart pained at her crying daughter. She had never seen her daughter this vulnerable. Ava rarely cried. She wasn't one to cry.
"Mom, I might lose my best friend".
"Why? What happened? Thought he's already awake".
"Yeah. But he doesn't remember me. At all".
"No way", Mrs Bateman said stroking her daughter's back gently.
"He won't forget you. He's your one and only best friend".
"Mom, I'm scared".
"Don't worry. Mother is here".
After the MRI scan was done, Kyle was escorted back to his ward with Kaitlyn leading him by his arm.
Mrs Compton stuck her hands into her pocket as she watched her son walk to his ward.
Ava walked to her.
"Aunty",
Mrs Compton looked at her. "Ava baby"
"What happened? Is there some problem?"
"No. Nothing at all. It's just, he's got selective amnesia".
"Oh no", Ava muttered as she stooped down, holding her hands on her head.
Mrs Compton bent down to hold her. "Ava dear"
"Why should he forget me? Why me aunt? It could have been someone else, not me!", she cried.
Mrs Compton teared up at the young girl's cry. It was so heart wrenching that the doctor in charge of the scan turned away to hide his tears.
Ava ran to his ward and burst the door open. She ran to his side and hugged him. Tightly.
"Kyle, please not me. You can't do this to me. Please remember me!"
This was the sight that greeted Daisy and Alex that arrived. Ava had told them that she would be visiting today and they decided to also come see him. But this scene....
"Are you this pathetic?"
"No. You know I'm not a pathetic person".
"I don't know".
"You do. You know me more than anyone else in this world!"
Kyle scoffed. He looked at the doctor that was there. "Don't you even know how to do your work? You do have another job under the pipeline right?", he half yelled. The scenario that this girl had created since the moment he woke was getting on his nerves.
"Miss, you have to let the patient rest", the doctor that was shouted at said, his voice tensed as he tried to pry Ava's arm away from Kyle's torso.
Kaitlyn felt her heart relax when the doctor spoke up. She didn't want anything spoiling her plans. She needed to make herself look good especially in front of her father.
"No. He hasn't remembered me yet!", she cried as the doctor tried pushing her away. Her mom came to her side and grabbed her.
"Baby, please stop", Mrs Bateman said her voice quivering.
"Mom, you said he won't forget me right? Why doesn't he remember? Mom!" Ava was already going hysterical at the whole event. Not her. Not her.
Daisy and Alex came and held her. It pained Alex that he had to see Ava cry. He'd never seen her this vulnerable. This wasn't a good sight for him.
"Ava, listen to your mom", he said, his voice calm.
"But he hasn't remembered me yet", she muttered.
"Let's go first", Alex urged.
Ava looked at him. "Alex".
"Let's go ".
Ava snatched her hands away from him. She looked at everyone in that ward. They were looking at her. She shook her head frantically....and ran out of the place.
