Chapter 13. His birthday party
This new week wasn't very favorable to Ava. She was moody almost all the time. The threats from Kaitlyn were a lot to handle. She did her best to avoid Kyle. Sometimes, she didn't go home together with him inorder to stay out of trouble. It was painful to watch him trying to fathom the reason of her actions.
It was time for lunch and Ava was packing up to go to the cafeteria. She didn't go to call Kyle as that was a taboo of recent. However, she was stumped when she saw him in front of her class, waiting for her.
"Hey there dude", he called her.
"Hey, what are you doing here?"
"It's lunch time. Let's eat, don't worry. It's on me".
"That's a hassle. I'm not eating. I need to go to the library", she said and turned to go but felt the weight of his masculine hand on her wrist, holding her back.
"You can't go", he said. "You've been avoiding me Ava, I noticed".
"People are always talking and it's annoying".
"They've always been talking. It's not like it's their first time. You shouldn't let that get to you".
"Kyle".
"Don't worry. I'm not listening to you. You're eating with me. I need to tell you about something ".
Ava arched a brow. "Lead the way".
"No, you're walking beside me".
Ava giggled and grabbed his as they walked towards the cafeteria. It was a warm sight to see but that wasn't the same for Kaitlyn.
At the cafeteria, the besties got their favorite dish that was void of any seafood.
"You know my birthday is coming up this weekend", Kyle said. This got an eye roll from Ava. "You're going to mountain again? I won't be going with you".
"I want to throw a party ", he said.
Ava paused, her face brightening up with the speed of light. "Kyle freaking Compton! You really know how to make jokes right?"
Kyle chuckled. " You're finally laughing ".
"So that was a prank?"
He nodded. "But because you laughed, I'll throw a party ".
Ava would have deemed herself a liar if she said that she didn't feel butterflies when he said those words. That was like a feather tickling her heart, making her smile.
"Alright. So, what's..."
"It's your call. Just handle everything. I'll let my mom know ".
"Ok. We should send out invitations. How many people do you want to invite?"
"As long as Kaitlyn doesn't come, that's fine by me".
Ava chuckled. "One would think that you guys are a couple. You seize every opportunity to diss her".
Kyle shrugged. "I don't like her. I get a negative vibe from her. It's as if she's wearing a mask".
"Well, that's not your call. I'm the one inviting people. Just enjoy your birthday".
"Whatever ".
With aid from Daisy and Alex, Ava organized Kyle's birthday party. She didn't trust herself when it comes to organizing things. She didn't want to mess her bestie's first ever birthday party up. Kyle wasn't one to do parties but did one because of her. She sent invitations to their school mates including Kaitlyn.
The evening of Saturday arrived in the blink of an eye and most of the students of CC graced the Compton's mansion with their presence. Everyone was awed at the massive building before them, even Kaitlyn wasn't left out.
Ava clothed herself in a wine red colored tuxedo with a black tie that was loosely done. She wore a black sneakers and tied her hair in a loose ponytail. Easy peesy.
"Thanks for the invitation Ava", Kaitlyn said to her the moment they met.
