Chapter 12. Opportunities for two
Ava gasped at the sight of the text. No one else knew about that diary. No one. She ran as fast as she could, taking the stairs, two at a time. She prayed that everything would favor her.
As soon as she reached, she looked around but there was no one there. Her eyes into slits as she realized that she had been trapped. She just walked into a deadly trap. She clenched her fists in anger. She was angry. At herself. At her impulsiveness. She shouldn't have come up anyways.
"You're here".
That familiar voice entered her ears.
What the hell?! She screamed in her head. That was Kaitlyn's voice. How did she get hold of it. She turned around, her face back to normal.
"Kaitlyn, you sent the text?"
"Yes. I did. You were looking for this?", she asked bringing out a red colored diary.
"Kaitlyn...did you open it?" Fuck! That was the dumbest question she had ever asked in her entire life!
Kaitlyn scoffed. "Besties? What bullshit is that?"
"Kaitlyn, you need to stop this".
"What did I do? I did nothing. Come on, you're in love with him ".
"This is not a joke Kaitlyn. Please, just hand over the book".
"Why should I? 'Cause it's yours?"
"Kaitlyn, please don't be like this ".
"How am I being? I'm being perfectly okay. What would happen if he finds out about this?"
"He's the last person that I want to find out ".
"Well he's the first person that I want to find out. How about that?"
"Stop this Kaitlyn. I thought we were friends?"
She scoffed. "Friends? That's the most ridiculous word I have heard this morning. Tell me, am I your friend?"
"Yes you're. Just handover the book".
"Of course I would do that. But, you have to do something for me too. You know business don't you?"
"What do you want?"
"Create opportunities for Kyle and I. You get to do things I tell you from now on, got it?"
"Is the all?"
"And also, stay with him less".
"Ok".
"I don't need to tell you what would happen if you do otherwise".
"Cool. The note then".
Kaitlyn handed over the notebook to Ava, her smile as dubious as ever.
"Don't think that you could do whatever you want. I'm on your tail. Have a safe trip back home queen", she said , humming a tune as she left.
Ava clenched the notebook in her hand, her eyes blazing with anger. She hated her! She hated that girl! That wretched chameleon! She needed to do something. Her mind wheels began to turn.
Ava and Kyle arrived at where their car was parked.
"Let Kaitlyn join us", she said when she saw Kaitlyn standing afar off.
"I don't want to".
"Please".
"I'm not taking her home. Not a second time. Didn't you see what happened the last time?"
"Come on dude, you know students are always like that".
"But you were affected. Tell me about it Ava".
Ava sighed. "Ok".
She put her luggage at the back passenger seat her face anxious. Her phone chimed.
It's ok. Don't push it. He'll have to agree soon.
Don't you ever do something outrageous Kaitlyn.
It's none of your business.
Kyle got in the car and saw her texting with her face solemn.
"Is there a problem?"
"No", she said keeping her phone away with that smile thr was always peculiar to her.
"Seriously? You got a guy now?"
Ava chuckled. "Not really. Can you just drive?"
"The thing is, whoever's gonna date you, has to go through me first".
Ava rolled her eyes. She almost laughed. "I get. I'll let you know".
Kyle ignited the engine, and soon was on the road. His happiness that morning was a stark contrast to what Ava was feeling at the moment. She looked at him from time to time.
Smart as he was, he got wind of her abnormality.
"You okay best?"
"Why?"
"You've been taking glances, like I got something on my face".
"Nothing at all".
"You know what Ava, you know you could always tell me if something happens"
"Come on dude, everything's cool", she said with a chuckle. She leaned into the seat, throwing her head backwards.
"Wake me up when we arrive" she said and closed her eyes".
