Chapter 9 - The Greenʼs ball

We started preparing for the Green's ball, testing new dresses, and talking about how exciting it would be now that we are of age. The Green family is an aristocratic family that loves holding the best social events. They always have a ball right before the harvest festival, so young ladies usually use that event to find a date for the festival. The male leads would all show up in that event, of course.

The prince was obligated to show up since he had to start finding a prospective spouse… On the surface. In a real sense, he had to marry either Lilyanne or Rose, since the Percando family was a very powerful family in the empire. Marrying one of the daughters would help the crown prince build his influence and support.

Rose was meant to be the sacrificial lamb, but the prince happened to fall for Lily. Even though they weren't engaged it was known knowledge to Rose that she was the sacrificial lamb so she happened to fall for the prince blah blah blah, ended up dead. That is why I'd avoid the prince as well, if he falls for Lilyanne good for them. There would be no chance of getting married to the prince if I am fat, so I would focus on that.

The knight would be there as well, which increases the number of people to avoid. He is the number one person I need to avoid, knight or not he was a total weirdo that thought every girl was in love with him.

The Green's ball came so quickly it was shocking. The clothes were fitted a day before as usual and here I was about to leave for another ball when I'd rather be in my room.

"You look beautiful, my lady," a maid squealed.

"Yes, my lady, you look like a princess," another maid complimented. I blushed and said,

"Thank you." I wore a blue dress that just happened to be decorated with blue roses. I get my name is Rose, but can you stop reminding me? I wore the blue necklace that Dan gave to me with the earrings that goes with it, just as I was instructed. Next minute I was walking out, uninterested.

The door to the carriage opens, and I stepped in just to meet Lily's smile. I returned it with a weak smile and sat down relaxing.

When we got to the venue it was already dark, I let Lily step out first then I walked out. It felt like an award show or something, with the red carpet that was placed at the entrance leading inside, and the different dresses that everyone wore to show off their wealth. Typical Green's ball.

Lily stuck to me like glue, though I wanted to shake her off to avoid meeting any of the male leads. It's our first ball and all that, but I still need space because with Lily comes a male lead, in the end, my only solitude is food. I took a bite of a cookie that was helplessly lying there with its family begging me to come. With that one bite, I went unconscious because I didn't realize it when I started tasting everything.

"This is also good," I said to myself.

"I know," a male voice replied from beside me. Not just any male voice but the ghost. I turned willing it to not be, wishes really aren't horses.

"Ah," I exclaimed, speechless.

"Hey," he waved looking… Clean. "What are you doing here?"

"Very funny question," I replied, laughing. "I guess I got lost and ended up here," I said, grabbing a cookie as I walked away, I haven't forgotten that he's one of the people I have to avoid. It suddenly felt suffocating inside, I just wanted to leave.

I looked at the dance floor Lily was dancing with someone, black hair and shiny hazel eyes. The last person I want to see, the knight. I walked outside to a balcony and looked at the view. The view was nice and calming, I don't know what happened, but it's sorting thanks to this view.

Someone stood beside me and I just knew it was the ghost. I glanced at him and shook my head weakly.

"May I ask how you knew who I was?" I asked quietly.

"You saved me, so I can't possibly forget your face," he said obviously avoiding the real question, I felt like punching him. No beating around the bush.

"That's not what I meant," I said calmly.

"Oh, we met at your coming of age ball, remember?" He asked.

"I don't know if I'd remember someone I didn't see," I stated.

"So you recognized me," he said accusingly.

"No, I figured it out after our last meeting."

"I see," he said leaning on the balcony. His voice was rough the last time I met him in the alley, but now he's cleaned up his voice sounds like one that would make people drool if he voice acts, as expected of a male lead. I would have made a lot of money as his manager if we were in another world, but of course, that is useless in this world.

"So, not a noble?" I said accusingly just to make small talk because this one didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. The truth is I'd rather stay with my killer and be terrified than dance, it's all about what's more terrifying, this is all about priority. It's funny how Lilyanne got everything from Dan including dance skills, I just couldn't get anything, huh?

"Yes, I'm not," he said. I know.

"Really?" I continued pestering even though I knew he was saying the truth.

"Well, I'm of high status," he said, and it didn't sound like he was bragging.

"Good for you," I said, already losing interest in the conversation.

"I have been thinking of this since we last met," he started, and I turned to look at him. What is it? I don't like the seriousness in his voice, except if it has to do with Lilyanne I'm not interested. I should have just left when I had a chance. My head is thinking a billion things at a time, I'll soon overload and crash.
