Chapter 3 - The Ball

I woke up very early to prepare, not by myself. The bed refused to let me go, so I stayed for its sake. About six ladies came to bathe me, and I know that I'm no saint. When I see an opportunity to be spoiled, I grab it. Or so I thought! It was so uncomfortable that I tagged it the worst bath ever. Hands were touching me all over, that at some point I gave up on complaining. In their attempt to correct their mistake, that only made me more uncomfortable. I like only Millie, please.

The dress was hung in the corner as the maids applied makeup on my face… Her face. When they were done, they gave way for me to see my face. This girl is so pretty, but the makeup made her look entirely different.

"I don't like it," I spat out my thoughts without realizing. The dread on their faces made my heart to sink. "I don't mean I don't like it. I… I mean, it's just too much. Can you make it light?" I asked with the kindest smile I could muster. They smiled and nodded.

A few years later they were done. It felt like an eternity, but I pulled through pretty. The dress was supposed to be red, but it was black. It was black with red roses on the bust area and a long sleeved hand with red rose designs. The lower part was red but had a black transparent material covering it with red roses on it. I felt so emotional, as a fashion enthusiast, seeing a piece as beautiful as this filled me with extreme joy.

The shoes were also red and black. I held a black hand fan with red roses decorating it. It was like I fell on someone's rose garden. I sat down as the maids did their finishing touches. My hair was clipped with hairpins that had rose designs as well, and a small rose crown was placed on my head. With that, I was ready.

I walked out of my room towards the hall. Lady Nort sighted us from afar, not that far, and walked towards us, she must be angry, I can't tell the lady is literally always angry.

"What is this? Did you even apply makeup on her face?" She yelled at the maids who were so scared they couldn't speak, I thought I was the only one that thought this woman was terrifying. Okay, time to be a hero… I mean a villain.

"I asked them to make it lighter," I said calling her attention.

"And why?" She glared at me. She's so scary, but I couldn't lose the stare-down we started without realizing. Alright, villainess act activate. I wish it was easy, but like who am I kidding, it's easy. I have not been reading romance novels and comics for nothing, it trained me for this very moment. Not only that, but I tilted my head slightly with a finger to my cheek as a smirk built up.

"I thought I looked prettier this way, or by any chance does Lady Nort think I'm ugly?" I asked with a fake shocked expression. Just like my many teachers I played the perfect role of villain, they always do that, and now I wonder why. I never asked, like who would I ask, maybe if I meet the boss of this book I'll ask her, not like I'll be here long enough to meet her?

"N… No, I never said that," she trembled. Oh, I love my superpower: ability to instigate fear. Hahaha! I feel so good seeing her scared. You shouldn't get too comfortable with a villain, extra or not. To clear the tension, I smiled and said,

"Oh, thanks, Lady Nort. You are so kind." I could swear I saw her blush but with that angry face of hers it's impossible to tell.

We were introduced, and I walked out going down the stairs. Liliyanne came out of the hallway opposite mine and walked down the stairs besides me. The crowd gawked at us with every step we took. Yes 'us'… I felt so pretty. I've always been told I'm pretty, but this body makes pretty look less. Rose is like hot, very hot… Probably hotter than Lily even though their twins.

The duke brought out his hands and I took it. It was easy to spot him because of his emerald green eyes and blonde hair like Liliyanne's. Raphael, the Duke's son, took Liliyanne's hand and we danced.

The dance skills of Dan, the duke, were so good I felt like kneeling before him and asking him to be my dance instructor, not like it'd change anything. I didn't have to do anything, he just took the lead and showed off his skills, I don't like the man, but I'm touched. I could hear giggles, Liliyanne's giggling, but I just acted like I didn't hear anything and refused to react. Since I'm now Rose, I should know better than to react in front of the duke.

The song changed and I was spinned to meet Raphael while Lily went to meet the duke. Raphael lived up to his title as heir, his dance skills rivaled his father's. I heard the giggling again, and seriously I'm starting to get pissed, rub it on my face, will you?

After the first dance everyone started dancing as well. Now if I recall correctly the rich merchant umm... Whatever his name was, will ask Rose to a dance, but she'd be so bad he'd hurt his feet. Liliyanne would save the day by giving an excuse, as expected. I should leave before I embarrass myself.

"Lady Roseanne," I turned to see who was calling me, I could feel the blood drain from my face. A young man with brown hair bowed with his hands out. "May I have this dance?" No, no, no! I just wanted to leave, did he run or something? Why did this have to happen to me? I should just turn and run away, that's the safe option, right?
