"It seems you're injured?" Blaze questioned coming close to me and inspecting my shoulder.
"Ye-yeah. It seems distracting guards suits me ill." I replied with a tinge of humour, trying to suppress my nervousness.
"Any way you can fix this." Continuing I pointed at my shoulder.
"Let me see…"
*clack* *clack*
"Agh! Easy there" Blaze forcefully put my shoulder back in place. Rotating them to check, I still felt lingering pain.
"You sure you put them perfectly, right?" I couldn't help but ask due to the pain.
"Dunno."
"What do you mean don't know?!!"
Hearing my outburst Blaze spoke with a sneer. "You think I do this on a regular basis? Let me break them again if you're unsatisfied."
"No no no, I'm fine. You did a good job." Immediately I declined knowing fully well that this dude would definitely do as he said.
"So what next?" I asked.
"What next is you will return to the orphanage and continue what you were doing and as for what I would do… you need not worry about that." Blaze said with a smirk before a serious expression settled on his face and he continued.
"Listen, Magnus. You're very talented for a human but remember humans are not at the top of the food change. They are but glorified slaves to superior races so I bid you be cautious when you reach the Royal Academy."
I gulped at his words. Are humans oppressed like many novels I have read?
I tried to further inquire but Blaze turned around and left leaving behind one last sentence.
"Don't die, Magnus. I hope to see you on the big stages."
You will, Blaze. "You will" I promised looking at his retreating back.
Next, I also left and silently returned to the orphanage. I wanted to think of what I did but the fatigue caught up to me and I fell asleep without knowing.
The next day I woke up I was full of energy again, with no soreness, tiredness or laziness. I think my child-like body alongside my stats improvement prevents me from feeling those things after waking up.
But what it does not do is help with my mental issues since even feeling better than ever I can't help but think about the shocked face and lifeless eyes of the guard whose life I took.
I couldn't help but think about the necessity of my action despite knowing otherwise. But I still pushed back those thoughts and went to do my chores to not raise any suspicions since any moment chief's people would come to question about Blaze.
It also helps that the two guards weren't as innocent as I thought them to be considering the second guard was pretty vocal about his dark side.
While doing chores, at some point the chief's people finally arrived and started questioning the matron and children. They also questioned me since someone told them that I talked with Blaze.
But since I only talked to him once publicly I easily got through their low-key interrogation. I only had to tell them seeing Blaze's sword practice and asking him to teach me.
After interrogation me and some other children. They left as informed as they came. Their expressions were pretty hilarious when they found out the dude didn't speak more than two words with anyone in the orphanage.
Heh… as expected of an emo avenger kid.
Once they left the day went like usual with the same chores and going to Billy shop for my part-time job. The only thing that was different from the usual was a Royal Academy book I asked Billy to buy and going to the tavern to get some food. Although getting food regularly from there would raise questions. I can't help it if I want to raise my stats as much as possible before the recruiters come.
"Fooh~" I sighed remembering about the new problem that came with raising stats.
"Status"
.
[-Status-]
•Name: Magnus
•Age:5
•Race: Human
•Bloodline: N/A
•Tier:0
-Constitution:0.10
-Spiritual:0.17
[*System Energy Value:20]
.
My constitution reached 0.10 after putting in 10 SEV I got from the guard I killed. But the problem arose from there. The amount SEV needed to improve my stats rose dramatically. Now I need 100 SEV to raise my stats by 0.01. The reason behind this is that after every 10 the increase in strength is bigger than previously despite the increased stats number being the same. So the SEV needed to increase stats also rises. According to the information system gave me, 9 is the peak while 10 is an extreme number in this universe. It is quite an achievement that even the will of this universe acknowledges and rewards. Although it won't reward me now since my achievements are in decimal but its something look forward to in future.
It will give me many advantages in the long run but for the short run? It will be a headache to raise my stats much before the Royal recruiter comes into the town.
"Sigh~ at this rate, I have to hunt inside the forest again. Killing only chicken won't do anymore."
"It is dangerous to enter the forest. I could die any moment…" I muttered nervously but the lifeless face of the guard flashed again.
"No! I have to do this! If I can't even take that much of a risk then I won't go far in this world even with the system."
I know this world is far crueller than my previous one. The illusion of peace and order in this world is even frecklier. And if I can't risk my life to achieve greatness and become the master of my sail then I better end it now and save myself from future torment…
Although I thought such I still heard a soft whisper to give up and choose to live in mediocrity again. It was a soft whisper inside my head but it was damn tempting even more so than the seduction of the world's most beautiful woman.
But I crushed it ruthlessly and shut my eyes to take my well-needed sleep. I have a job to do tomorrow… and preys to hunt.
