It took us almost an hour to reach the Royal Academy due to the rush on the street.
Well, no one is to blame. When you are in a massive city with close to 10 million people living in it. It tends to get crowded on the streets.
Anyway, we reached the Academy and I have to say it was one great sight. The Academy's main building— A castle so huge you can't see its end.
It was a beautiful and majestic castle. Mainly made of white marbles with gold and blue stones mixed in between forming a beautiful pattern. The design of the castle wasn't very complex but its gold and blue highlights on the white marble were breathtaking.
Surrounding the main building were a bunch of smaller buildings which were mainly made up of blue and gold colour further complementing the main building.
Finishing the look was the vast free green land with trimmed grass and neatly designed trees.
"Close your mouths and follow me. We don't have all day." Andrew said with a chuckle and then led us to one of the smaller buildings where a brunette registered us.
The process was simple. She took the application form that Larissa filled out from Andrew and read it carefully.
I did not miss the look she sent me when she read one of the forms, probably mine.
After she placed the forms in a file. She told us to collect our ID cards before the semester starts and then she handed us keys to our dorm rooms. I noticed my key was golden in colour while the Fin and Cameron— The chief and the merchant's sons were blue.
I did not think much of it and went to register Erica as my servant. After doing that I asked the location of the servant's quarters. The receptionist lady told me my own dorm room which apparently is an apartment has a room for servants.
I thanked the lady and took Erica to Andrew who led us to the dorm building. There were three buildings in total, each different in colour.
Andrew told us the colour represents our status and class of our treatment and how important we are to the Academy. He also said the colour of our building shows our position on the hierarchical ladder of the Academy.
After telling us that Andrew told Fin and Cameron to go to the blue building—the lowest in the hierarchy and enter the same room number on their keys. He also warned them to not open the rooms with different numbers than shown on their keys because doing so would start the defence array or runes.
Andrew told me to enter the gold building with the same warning.
I nodded. "Thank you, big brother Andrew for guiding us here."
"No need to thank me, kid. I'm just doing my job." He replied with a shake of his head.
"But still. You told us many things that you didn't necessarily need to."
And I was being honest here. The guy warned us about many mistakes new students made and gave advice on what to do and what not.
"No problem, kid." Seeing me not backing Andrew accepted my thanks.
"Now go and take a shower. You smell like shit." He continued which made my lips twitch. I would have retorted if I really wasn't smelling like shit.
So I nodded my head at him and dragged Erica to our dorm room.
It was a fairly big 1 BHK apartment with a small storeroom that had a double-decker bed. The whole apartment was clean and fully furnished. The kitchen had all its utensils while the hall had a couch and a small table. I would have called it a modern apartment if it did not had anything electronic.
The development of this world is all over the place. It has all the modern techniques like the rotation crop system, alcohol production, advanced medical knowledge and deep information and research on human Anatomy. Modern products like pen, pencils, smooth white pages, cigarettes, and clock watches are also available.
But this world has no firearms, electronic devices or oil motors.
I always thought that I never saw such things because I was in a very small village but after inquiring with Andrew and coming to the city. I got to know that those things truly don't exist in this world.
I can think of the reason why there were no firearms but why there were no electric items. I couldn't think of any reason for that until I entered this apartment.
Arrays/Runes that's fucking why!!!
The apartment has temperature-regulating runes. I can make my room as cold as the Antarctic or as hot as the Sahara desert.
And I'm not saying this as a joke, but literally. Other than that there are also light runes in every part of the apartment, freshwater runes, and heating runes that work like a stove or a microwave.
Seeing all this I can imagine why there were no technological advancements. Why would you need those things when you can get better replacements with unlimited renewable energy?
I read all the functions and about the ambient spiritual energy that runes use as fuel inside a guide lying on the hall's table.
There was also a school guidebook beside the room guide which I plan to read tonight but let's take a bath first. It's getting unbearable.
"Erica I'm going to the bath first. You can use it after me."
"Okay…" she replied absently as she was busy messing around with the freshwater rune on the kitchen's tap.
I didn't comment anything more and proceeded to the bathroom to wash off all the dirt and stress accumulated in my two-day-long journey.
