Chapter 21 - 20:

It's been a few days and I have gotten settled in. Today is the first class and I'm excited about it.

Waking up I showered and wore my uniform. The same one Andrew and others wore.

After that, I went to the cafeteria to get something to eat. I grabbed myself those heavenly croissants, sandwiches and a big latte. I packed the same minus the latte for Erica and dropped it in my dorm room since she's not allowed to eat in the cafeteria. Only students and teachers are allowed.

After that, I proceeded to my classroom with the help of the map provided along my schedule.

The class itself wasn't anything special. It was based on a normal Japanese middle/high school with small tables and chairs.

Each chairs were already occupied. Darnit It seems I'm late.

"Can you move already? You are in the way." A sharp, squeaky voice interrupted me.

Looking back I saw a black-haired girl around my age with cold grey eyes looking at me.

"Ohh! I'm sorry." I said moving out of the way.

The girl's eyes narrowed as she scanned me. A flash of recognition passed in them.

"You are a commoner." She stated.

"…I am…" I replied expecting some young master-type insult but her next action surprised me.

She nodded her head. "Yes, you look like one. Anyway, you should enter the class the Instructor is on his way."

"Thanks… but if you don't mind me asking how did you guess I was a commoner."

The girl's left eyebrow rose at my question, quite cutely if I may add.

"It's because of the lack of any family crest on you. Noble kids always wear them." Her words surprised me. I quickly sweep the classroom again and lo behold every kid is wearing some ornaments or jewellery with unique symbols. Even the girl herself was wearing one. Hers was a small gold and silver broach on her breast pocket with a symbol of beautiful butterfly wings with sparkle falling from them.

"And…" she continued. "Nobles don't apologise… at least not for something as simple as standing in someone's way. Now move."

I moved out of her way as she entered the class and sat on one of the few empty chairs.

I also didn't stand on ceremony and entered the class. No one paid any attention to me which was good. I quietly approached an empty seat beside a guy sleeping on his desk and casually dropped down.

Immediately the whole class turned towards me and started staring.

It took me some time to realise why they did so. It was because I sat beside the sleeping guy.

I couldn't guess what this reaction to me sitting beside this guy was. Was he an outcast? Or some Royalty? I don't know but I didn't like the situation.

The attention on me wasn't something I wanted. I intended to develop low-key now that I was already in the Academy, at least for now. I need to first gauge the reaction and the environment of the Academy towards a high-achieving low-born. Once I know it's safe or at least not that risky will I try to aim for the highest position because I know only by showing my talent would I get better resources.

I tried to change my seat but before I could the instructor entered the room and told the students to sit.

"Good morning, class. I am Styles Vermilion and I will be the instructor of class 1-S the very best of its batch till you all achieve Tier-1… or get disqualified." Our instructor—Styles Vermilion a tall man with dirty blonde hair and green eyes introduced.

"Now" he begins again hushing down the whispering students. "Since I introduced myself and know all of your information. I won't waste time on the introduction."

The students nodded at him as they opened their books.

"No need to open your books. Since you came here to cultivate why don't I introduce you to the path of cultivation as your first class." Instructor Vermillion said getting exciting looks from the class.

"There are no particular laws banning people from spreading the knowledge of cultivation and I'm sure some of you have some basic knowledge but not much should be known since it's a tradition of Nobles and Royalties to let their children know about the cultivation only when they entered Academy."

"There mainly two reasons this tradition came to be… one— to have fair competition between aspiring cultivators to see who better grasp cultivation concepts and shows innate understanding towards it. This also develops a healthy rivalry between nobles' heirs which is good since it pushes them to improve themselves in whatever manner." The students seriously nodded at his words. I don't know how much of that is true but I also nodded but the instructor suddenly burst into laughter pointing at our serious faces.

"Haha!!! Look at you all believing all that crap. Nobles playing fair? Developing healthy rivalry? That's all bullshit. They are noble only in name and are ready to backstab each other for the smallest of benefits. This is some bullshit reasons nobles made to show their nobleness and magnanimity to commoners studying here and outside."

"The real reason for the tradition of not teaching your heir before they enter the Academy is due to them being too dumb before they turn 5."

Instructor Vermillion stopped at that point. His eyes scanned the room as if challenging the students to rebut. No one did despite looking like they wanted to. Seeing that instructor Vermillion nodded and continued.

"At age 5 the Spiritual Entrances of Spiritual Veins opens. This causes the Spiritual Veins to passively absorb the vital energy of one's body and turn it into spiritual essence which helps the body and mind to rapidly develop." The instructor wanted to continue but a familiar girl raised her hand.

"Yes? Lady Fairychild." Instructor Vermillion pointed and asked.

The girl stood from her chair and gave a short bow before speaking. "Instructor, I wanted to ask why do we have to wait till age 10 before we promote ourselves to Tier-1 and not do so at age 5 when we first opened our Spiritual Entrances."

"Excellent question, Lady Fairychild but an unneeded one as I was going to explain that next." Instructor Vermillion's words had the class whole laughing at the girl and although the girl kept a straight face I could see a blush creeping on her face.

That was a dick move, Instructor, a dick move.
