[Year 1657]
A cart being pulled by two horses approached a tall wall. Through the gates of the wall was a beautiful city with wooden houses, large farms and gorgeous cobblestone roads.
Inside the cart was a large number of people chained on their necks and wrists. Their faces were covered in ragged hoods and dirt. Some even had burn marks on their skin while others were covered in scars.
This was no surprise. Even an animal would be able to deduce that the people in the cart were slaves. The people of the city didn't seem too bothered to see the cart of slaves. They were used to seeing this and knew exactly where they'd be going.
Towards the straight path from a few courthouses, there was a large castle with tons of towers and probably large rooms. The place was probably brimming with hundreds of servants and hundreds of rooms. This was also where the slaves were being transported.
Inside the cart, a slave with dark skin and short, curly hair sat idly next to a little girl with similar features. He looked at her and smiled faintly while she kept a nonchalant facial expression.
"Hey, April," said the man as he spoke to the little girl. The little girl looked at him in response. "This is only temporary. After 3 years, we'll be able to return home. Alright?"
The little girl smiled gently and nodded, resting her head on the man's shoulder seconds after. The man ceased smiling and looked at the capital. It was extravagant, but he wouldn't stay for any longer than 3 years. For the sake of his wife, whom he had left behind and the sake of his niece, who was currently leaning on him.
'I'll protect you, April...'
[Present Day...]
"Tell me something, little Hunter. You mentioned a voice in your head that's constantly making noise. Do you share your consciousness with a servant, by any chance?" inquired the dungeon master.
[Do not answer that]
Hunter chose to remain silent.
"... Very well then. I'll find out for myself once I take that body from you..."
"You really should think about how you phrase your words, you creep," retorted Hunter. 'The king returned... Maybe his head wasn't a weak spot. Different undead have different weaknesses, so I suppose that it makes sense.'
Without hesitation, Hunter dashed for the king and swung his reaper. The king raised his head and blocked the attack, leaving sparks upon impact. Hunter used [Fast Break] and backed away in the first second, moved towards the king's blindspot in the next and stabbed him in his heart in the last.
'I'm getting better at this...'
Hunter pulled his reaper out of the king's body and dashed backwards. The king fell and bled as he collapsed onto the ground. Hunter kept his eye on him, refusing to look away.
A few seconds later, the king slowly picked himself up. Hunter looked at the king and watched as the wound on his chest heal and close itself.
'So, turns out he doesn't have a weak spot. Or, do I have to stab him in his dick or something?'
[Why that particular area?]
'Stab a man there and he's never getting up again. A simple kick normally does it too,' replied Hunter. 'I don't think the king can die. Atleast, not until the dungeon master dies.'
[Then that's good. I've been meaning to get rid of that old fart for a hot minute now]
'What's your deal with him? Do you know him?'
[I don't. And that's what makes me hate him]
Hunter shrugged and spun his reaper. Before the king could fully recover, Hunter leapt for him and stabbed him in the back, reopening his wound as he did.
He jumped off the king's back and landed on the ground as the king colllapsed once again. Hunter dashed for the dungeon master and coated his blade in [Black Flames].
'Finally caught on, huh?' said the dungeon master.
Hunter quickly closed the gap between himself and the dungeon master. As he jumped for the monster, he was suddenly grabbed from the back and tossed far from the dungeon master.
Hunter crashed onto a wall and landed on his feet. He took a deep breath and looked in the direction from where he was flung from. The king was now standing beside the dungeon master.
His wound was still healing, which surprised Hunter. He slowly got up and stood on his feet as he readied himself for another charge.
'I thought he couldn't get up while he was still healing himself...'
[He can't. The old fart is controlling him]
'Then there's no hope for me. I might as well give up,' said Hunter as he shrugged and sighed.
[I will kill you myself before the dungeon master even gets a chance if you do]
"Mh?"
Hunter suddenly felt his hand dry up. He looked at the palm holding the Death Reaper and noticed his blood had dried up completely.
[Property Enhancer has been depleted]
Hunter summoned his [Hellhound Chains] and attached the end of the reaper towards the end of the chain. Then, he cut his palm again and coated the blood on his weapon.
The chains and reaper began glowing in purple. The weapons fused and created an entirely new weapon. What was now in his hands were nunchucks, each end with a sharp blade to accompany them.
Hunter spun the nunchucks and coated the blades with [Black Flames] afterwards. His eyes began glowing and imbued a soft blue light from them. His pupils sharpened and his veins popped from his head.
[Activating Prey Gaze...]
[Activating Heightened Awareness...]
[Prey Gaze has been activated]
[Heightened Awareness has been activated]
Hunter fused the two skills and felt his heart pounding extremely fast. This would take a huge toll on him since his energy was slowly starting to deplete. But, he had to take the risk.
After the dungeon master sensed Hunter's sudden energy surge, his senses suddenly ticked. As if a switch had been turned on, the dungeon master had a completely different feel to him now.
Hunter too could sense the change. But, he had to attack as quickly as he could. Once he did, he would finally be able to leave the accursed dungeon. 2 days had passed in the real world. Any more time spent in the dungeon would put him in danger.
"Don't die on me yet, Hunter Quinn... You still have a much bigger purpose than kicking the bucket here!" he told himself as he smiled nervously.
The dungeon master picked himself up and stretched his hands. "I suppose I'll get serious too..."
Hunter dashed for the dungeon master, but the king defended him and awaited Hunter's attack. Unfortunately for him, he didn't receive a charge from him.
Hunter simply smacked the king's sword away from his grasp, then smacked him while cutting his eyes off. The dungeon master summoned flames on his hands and blasted Hunter.
Hunter evaded the attacks and smacked a few of them away from his path. The dungeon master flew above Hunter, causing him to fumble and swing at an empty space. Behind Hunter, the king emerged, his arms wide open as he grabbed him and held him tightly.
Hunter quickly dug his blades into the king's arm, churning them as he forcefully released himself. Once he was free, he used [Fast Break] and kicked the king, making him stumble and fall on his back.
The dungeon master continued blasting Hunter with the flames, which Hunter either took like a champ as he burned his skin, or smacked away without any hesitation.
'Rise, you foolish king! I am not a mage! I am merely a corruptor!' the dungeon master screamed in his head as he continued blasting Hunter with his fireballs.
Hunter used [Heightened Awareness] and [Prey Gaze] to find a quick and effective pathway towards the dungeon master. He quickly dashed and began running on the wall as he approached the dungeon master.
The dungeon master backed away and pulled the king towards him using his mind. The king floated towards him and defended the dungeon master, despite not having any closed wounds or eyes.
"Forgive-"
"Just shut it already," Hunter quickly cut off the king's head and was seconds away from the dungeon master.
Without any hesitation, Hunter swiftly cut off the dungeon master's head in the next second. Hunter then fell from the ceiling and hit his face. He got on all fours and winced in pain.
"I really should try to land on my feet more often..." he said as he stood up slowly and looked behind him. The skeleton dungeon master was now dead, his voice unheard as he screamed internally.
As for the king, he looked at Hunter and cried, despite not having any eyes.
"Thank you..." he uttered as he was finally put to rest.
