With her claws full of the bloodied corpses of the men she had just killed, Fernia flew towards her next target. As she flew over the buildings in the city, drops of blood fell from the fresh corpses. Creating a bloody rain indiscriminately coloring what was below in a crimson color, with the smell of iron filling the air. Along with the falling blood were other things, bodily fluids like piss and vomit, as well as solids in their excrement… Shit. By the time Fernia had reached her next destination there was a distinct trail left behind detailing her flight path.
"What is this feeling?" A guard murmured to himself, trembling as he turned around towards the city. "AHHH!" He screamed in terror, as he felt his groin and legs grow warm and damp. He pulled his weapon around and started firing while he screamed; "Die Monster".
Rapid gunfire
A lieutenant in charge of the area was about to scold the guard when, out of the corner of his glasses, he saw the reflection of terror. A hazy giant flying monster was heading straight for them. "Men, turn and fire at will! Aim for the wings." He ordered, turning around himself as he went to ready his own weapon… He saw it.
Faster and louder gunfire
The corpses of his fellow guardsmen. "You… No way, was their resistance so fleeting?" The lieutenant questioned out loud. The guardsmen couldn't hear him over the sound of gun fire though. Guns were, after all, extremely loud.
Suddenly…
Fernia's Cry
The sheer volume of Fernia's Cry was enough to completely drown out the sound of the guns. And then silence fell on the position. The guards were stunned by the sound. A Legendary Class monster was before them. Part of the men's minds couldn't believe it. The other part went mad with terror. Save, for a few of them.
Click Klink
"Loaded" A guard timidly whispered to another nearby, in the top of the watchtower He also signaled with his hands that the gun was loaded.
"Aim is good." Another guardsmen said, winking to the gun crew's commander.
"Fire." The gun crew's commander nodded. I hope this thing works. It had better damn it. If this doesn't work even a little bit… We have no chance.
They opened their mouths and held their ears. The triggerman pulled with all his might. And at that moment they all hoped that this would work. After all, they had never tested it before. Not due to laziness. No… Rather it was because the monsters would get a little upset if they saw the humans using these things.
BANG BOOOOOM
A super large shell was launched from the barrel of this massive gun. The shell was easily 2,500 Kilograms. And with just one firing of the gun, the barrel superheated and deformed extensively. A single shot was all they were gonna get. The sheer force of the blast, having it from the very top of the watchtower, caused thousands of cracks to appear in the foundation. It was truly a powerful force.
The shell was heading straight for Fernia's center of mass. The aim was to do as much damage as possible in one shot. And fortunately for the guards the shell stayed its course. However, Fernia saw the shell coming at her.
Hmm, it's not a weak weapon that's for sure. But even so, it still looks like it's moving in slow motion. Seriously, if it can't go faster than sound it might as well be standing still. I wonder though… Can I take that hit? It certainly won't kill me even if I do. And I'd like to see what it's actually capable of too… Yeah, I'll let it hit me.
Fernia stopped and hovered, waiting for the shell to hit. The crew commander saw this and his eyes all but bugged out of his head. As he watched the shell fly and make a direct hit. Once it made contact all the energy it had seemed to just vanish in an instant, rendering it seemingly useless at best. The gun crew's commander fell to his knees in despair.
"It was useless. It didn't do anything! This thing would never be enough to injure a god let alone beat one if it can't even dent a legendary class monster." He wailed in his despair. There was nothing holding his hope together any more. That shell was the absolute last chance he had at remaining hopeful of a human victory. "We're all going to end up like them… dead and bleeding out, in the claws of the monsters!" He yelled in his panic.
Hmm, this shell definitely had some power. It burned off a few fibers on some feathers. But, ultimately that is still useless. Unless thousands of them come and hit in quick succession and hit the exact same spot, no real damage will be done. But this doesn't feel like it's because of the skills Vitaliana had us acquire. It feels more like our stats simply over power the remaining energy the skill couldn't deal with. Which means… This weapon would definitely kill my baby sister… Her stats may be high for a Tori Naru, but she is still far weaker than this thing. I'll report this right away.
"Big sisters. The weapons in the towers have the ability to kill our little sister if it manages to land. Though it would be difficult to manage that given her speed, it is still possible she could get caught unawares." Fernia reported through the linked telepathy.
"In that case, one of us should go around and destroy the towers first. Just to be safe. Even if little sis has grandmother's protection, it's better to use it for an emergency instead of a reliance. Who wants to fly through some towers?" Acialia replied, asking which of them would do it.
"I'll do it, those towers are encroaching on the wind anyway, I should pay them back for it." Aieria answered.
"I'll go too, that way we can split the load in two and make the air safer for Vitaliana. There's already the Vampires to worry about so it's best if we solve this problem sooner rather than later." Fulgiana also replied, eagerly ready for some demolition work as well. It's also my thunder they want to block. I'll teach them a lesson.
"Good! Now go, once you're done pick up where you left off. And then we will join you in completing the guideposts extermination. Happy hunting." Acialia ordered.
