Chapter 39 - Ridgeline City Battle (Fulgiana)

~ A Little Earlier ~

At Fulgiana's location, she was absolutely mowing through the guards on the walls. The whole, Lightning bends to her will, even against its own natural flow. Nothing that would be a lightning rod, would save these men from utter slaughter. She had even made it to her third assigned section because she was so efficient with killing the pitiful human resistance. If you could even call it resistance.

Just as Fulgiana was about to kill the last human in this section, her lightning stopped. This was the same time when a shot from one of the towers had struck the walk way she had been slaughtering the humans on. The impact of the force sprayed body parts, blood, urine, excrement and bile around like a fountain. This was when she decided to join her sister Aieria in destroying those towers.

"Awe! I'm covered in this stuff now. How rude, you can't even respect your own dead. It's no wonder why you fools attacked my family with no respect ful all the protection we provided." Fulgiana shrieked furiously about being covered with excrement. The other things were fine. But the excrement was too terrible a smell. A giant bolt of lightning struck the top of the tower where the shell had come from, blowing it to bits.

The last remaining survivor within the small section, while terrified of Fulgiana, snapped out of it once he heard the comment of protection. "Lies! Stop spouting your damn lies! The Guard shouted furiously.

"Lies you say? And just what exactly are you claiming that I am lying about? I've not spoken a lie. It is you who have been fed lies your whole life and blissfully lived in that lie." Fulgiana reasoned, thinking it would be fun to hear the idiot out before he died.

"You say you've been protecting the city! Utter Lies! Why? Because once every 10 to 20 years. Monsters run rampant and stampede upon our city! We've protected ourselves all this time! You've done nothing! YOU'RE NOTHING MORE THAN OVERGROWN BIRD! FUCK YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!" The Guard yelled back furiously.

"Ahahahaha! Only once every 10 to 20 years you say. Then it sounds like we've really been doing a much better job than you think." Fulgiana laughed, then used a water spell to clean her feathers and a wind spell to dry them. "Tell me, do you think monsters reproduce so slowly? I could lay a thousand eggs at once. And do it every other day. I don't because my mother is the one responsible for continuing our family. Not me. But not all monsters follow this rule." She explained, with a sneer in her voice. Yeah, I'm going to eat this human alive. Sorry mother but I can't allow such a horrible soul to be used. He's too evil.

"Don't worry my darling. You can eat him, soul and all if you like. If you don't eat his soul, he'll be punished a great deal by your grandmother's friends. In the other dimension. That I can promise. Oh, also, I don't want that tainted soul either. There are precious few souls of men that are good enough to be used. The inhabitants in the city are the best for this so don't worry about anything my sweetie. Eat to your heart's content. And make sure to protect your little sister as best you can. Love you!" Eternia explained through telepathy, causing Fulgiana to fill with excitement.

The guard stammered for a moment seeing a giant monster turn giddy all of a sudden. "What is it you mean by what you said, Monster?" He asked, trembling as Fulgiana took a step forward.

"Ahahaha, I'm saying that the number of stampedes you've dealt with is only a small fraction of what got by us. Well, we did let them do that so I guess we are a bit at fault." Fulgiana said, wondering about it for a moment, then she remembered why they let it happen.

The guard's face turned from fear to anger… His fists clenched and veins bulging like they were coming out of their skin. "DAMN YOU! MY FATHER DIED IN THE LAST STAMPEDE! AND YOU'RE SAYING IT'S YOUR FAULT!!!" He roared the words out, but quickly lost his voice after that. He yelled so loud that his vocal chords nearly severed.

"Hmm, I guess that would be a normal response of the idiots who don't understand the point." Fulgiana sighed. "Those monsters were meant to test and grow the people of Ridgeline City. And any of the Mages or Magus that happened to be around. You were supposed to cull those monsters before the stampede. But you were so pitifully weak. We even made it so only 2nd evolution monsters that were also below level 20 were a part of the last couple Stampedes. The one before that was… Not so nice." She explained. "Yet, instead of growing stronger and developing as a race. You abandoned growth and turned to these pitiful instruments. That spinney one could definitely work on some monsters. But there are some that just don't die from such weapons. Such as wraiths and spirits. It's idiotic to think these things could hurt a legendary monster, let alone a god." She sighed again. "But it doesn't matter now. You look a little tasty so I'm going to eat you now. You aren't getting out of this, but you could do something to repent and you know what it is." She finished explaining and continued walking until she was close enough to eat the guy.

"What is it… Oh… I have to bear all for any forgiveness…" The Guard stuttered, realizing what it took to get forgiveness from Eternia. One must be in the most embarrassing state and beg for mercy. Is my sin that great though?

"Yes, your sin is indeed that great." Fulgiana groaned impatiently.

The guard swallowed hard, and started taking off his uniform. All the way down to nothing, got on his hands and knees, crying as he did this whole thing. It was humiliating after all. But for committing an offense such as these guards had, this was the only way for any easement of their punishment.

"Good, I won't consume your soul to be damned for eternity. You'll go through the cycle again for another chance to make things right." Fulgiana said, then swallowed the man whole. Taking care to kill him with as little pain as possible.
