Chapter 4 - NOTHING WAS THE SAME 2

h

Another black limousine enter the Briar's property. The welcome celebration was held, not in their house but in their mansion. It was a huge mansion build over more than twenty hectare of land. It was their secondary residence they build years ago but no one lived in. It was the first time they opened it to the public.

They drove in the direction of the main house but before they arrived, they were directed to another direction by a guard. The party won't be held in the main house but in the secondary one, where a hall able to content that much of people was.

The girls sat in silence, watching their surroundings.

Show off

Eva thought seeing how big the whole property was. It was kept natural to most of its part, verdure everywhere. She loved it. She was sure, it will encourage her mother even more to have that marriage happen. After all, the bigger the house, the richer the man is, she still remembers her mother's words. She was sure they won't let such a golden hen get away from her. She almost pity Klaus, almost.

They arrive at their secondary house but had to stop their progress because of the car who just stop in front of the red carpet. Outside stood a legions of paparazzi with their camera, assaulting the group who exit the car in front of them

"A red cap, seriously?" Eva complained.

"Who do he think he is?" she asked in wonder.

"Billionaire, philanthropist, Briar, at the head of a multinational company. Should I continue?" Alicia mocked her.

Ever shot her look before saying, "No need," she understood too well by herself that he was important persona.

The car in front of them drove off and it was their turn. A wave of anxiety came all over Eva. She wasn't an anxious person at first but during their last year of high school, something happen which got her social anxiety. She walked her way out of it but the idea of going in a room with the person behind her anxiety made her anxious.

"Ready?" Alicia asked her wary.

She knew how Eva could feel right now and wanted to make sure she was ok. She assisted to the scene herself after all.

Ever took a deep breath before nodding. Alicia presence beside her help her calm down. They step out of the car and every attention was on them. It was their turn to be blind by the cameras flash. Something Eva hate the most.

Flash of the camera was assaulting their eye as they made their way in. Standing beside Alicia calmed Eva beating heart for what may happen once she step in. She hate being the center of attention and having all those eye on her but the unsureness of what was going to happen was what was keeping her on edge tonight. Being by her friend side help her walk on the red cap with confidence, chin up as they poses for the pictures together, with no worries of what may happen. She wasn't alone. She has friend on her side this time, one that will stand up for her and support her. The thought put her as ease and had her relax in front of the camera.

The reporter was in delight to have the two women in front of their camera. Alicia Walker, daughter of the Walker enterprise chairman. At twenty seven years old, she was the vice president of the cooperation while her elder brother of couples of years older was at the head. Beside that, she was also known for her outstanding investment in many companies which was flourishing.

Standing beside her was, Eva Farewell. She was rarely seen at any social event as she was a private person who keeps her life a secrets. Eldest daughter of Nathan Farewell, she was most known for her organisation in help of poor which she was the founder and the chief director. Unlike most organisations, it have more than millions at the end of the year for the poor because her principal donator are members of the haute society. Unlike her little sister, who was now the vice president, she decide to have nothing to do with the family company.

After taking a couple of picture they climb the stair cover by a red carpet to the entrance of the building holding the event. By the door, and all around the building stood bodyguard all dress in black suits.

They gave their invitations to the man who announce their name before they step in. Eva frowned, she didn't want her family to know she came. She doesn't want her father to think it has anything to do with him. Even though it has, at certain extent. All she hope for was to not bump in either of them. She would prefer Klaus to them.

They climb down the stair to go to the floor who was already fill in with people but was spacious for all the hundreds of people to have room to walk around freely. Low voice was heard all through the corner of the room but in a low tune making it difficult for someone to distinguish what was been said. Soft music playing in the background, loud enough to be heard but not enough to overpower people voice.

"I'm happy I made you come. You would have miss the sight of the dashing Klaus," Alicia said as the climbed down the stairs side by sight.

Eva followed her gaze and sure enough, Klaus was standing some distance away from them talking with a woman. It took her just a second to notice the woman beside him was her sister.

"And Elsa is gorgeous," she added, "They makes a beautiful couple. They look like they got out straight from a fantasy book,"

Klaus was dressed in a white three pieces suits with a golden embroidery pattern on his jacket. His dress gave his a majestic aura with his long blonde hair braid on the side and had it fall on the other side. He stood strong with a gentle smile on his face and his green eyes vibrant as he spoke to Elsa. He was towering Elsa who shared the same embroidery golden pattern o her light pink gown on her waits. Her gown hugging her perfetly with her curled blonde hair cascading over her shoulder. Her bright blue eyes dancing with a particular glow.

"A heartless couple indeed. Like the saying goes 'birds of a feather flock together'. Both belongs to each other," Eva said taking a glass of champagne off the waiter tray passing them.

Alicia gave her a weird look at her comment but didn't say a words. It wasn't as if her saying something will change Eva opinion of them nor tell her what happen between them. Why the lovely sister she was, stopped caring about her sister and disregarded her friends.

For Elsa case, it was obvious why the distance between them. It was even surprising they managed to be close for so long but for the rest, what was it?

One day she was all cool with her friends. All smiling but the next day, she was a completely different person who wanted nothing to have to do with them. What provoked to change, was the question in everyone's mind.

"I must say she is indeed gorgeous. Gorgeous isn't even the word. She seem so unreal," Eva said taking a sip of her champagne.

She could never get tired of admiring her sister beauty. She has grown up with her, yet, she can't take her eyes of her. If only she was as beautiful in like she was out, it would have spear Eva many problems.

"It seem like my parents planned are in motion," she commented, eyes still on the couple.

"What do you mean?" Alicia asked seeing nothing odd.

"Their dress are matching," Eva pointed out and that was when Alicia realised. The pattern on their dress was the same.

"You are right!" Alicia exclaimed, wondering how it took for her to have Eva pointing it out for her to see.

"How does it have to do with your parent though," she questioned.

"My mother. It must be my mother hard work, father won't think of that," She said still not answering Alicia question. The latter sent her sharp look.

Eva giggled, "You really think they have agree to wear matching clothes?" Alicia shook her head.

"But it could have be a coincidence," she argued.

"May be but how much in a million would they both have that same design? By coincidence? It must be my mother who had Elsa clothes matching with his."

"So that people will thought of them as a couple. It may be fail but it will keep people away and seed in their head of them being a couple," Alicia reasoned.

"Exactly. And from Klaus behavior, he seem not to mind. May be he is interested in Elsa after all," Eva said.

Klaus and Elsa was laughing among themselves and was also standing close to each other. It will appear to anyone that they were couple.

Great job mother, now it remain father. What kind plan did he came up with to reproach them? Eva wondered curious, after all it was the reason of her presence there.

"I see no sight of Zachariah near him," Alicia muttered looking around for the man.

"Still obsessed with him. Didn't give up after hundredth of rejections?" Eva smirked.

Her friend had being obsessed with Zachariah for years now. She confessed for the first time before they left for college but he rejected her on spot. It didn't stop her for chasing him and confessing every time she got the occasion. He was going to be hers, she promised herself.

"I told you, I'm in love with him," her friend objected at her used of words. It wasn't just a simple obsession, she was in love with the man.

"In love but yet fooling around with others men?" Eva frowned, "I don't see the logic in it,"

For her, if you love someone you will commit to them, even if you are not together. You will only see him and only him. The other will be too dull in comparison to him, which was the exact opposite Alicia was doing. She claimed to love Zachariah but it didn't stop her to be with other men all over the years. Something Eva was never able to understand.

Alicia rolled her eyes, "You still don't understand don't you?" Eva shook her head.

"I love him but I won't stop myself from living because I'm waiting for him. That's is illogical to me." She said.

Eva decided it was better to let it go. They never fall in an agreement when apply to this topic. For all their years of friendship, they never did. It wasn't now that it would change.

"Go look for your man then," Eva sighed.

Alicia was a grown woman, she knew what she was doing. At least Eva hoped she knew what she was doing because her behavior was a huge turn off to Zachariah. To the Zachariah she knew. Over the years he must have change a lot.

"Would you be ok on you own?" Alicia checked on her first.

Her gesture warmed Eva. She smile, "you can go, I will try to find Noah," she said.

Alicia double checked first before nodding and disappearing in the crowd. Eva sighed before taking her phone out of her purse and sent a message to Noah.

Where are you? She texted.

The message was delivered in the second but even after two minutes wasn't read. With a long face she put her phone back in her purse and tried to find him. She roamed around searching for him but instead of finding her best friend, her eyes fell on her parents. They were standing a distant away talking among themselves.

Eva made a rapid 180 degree turned and walked in the direction opposite to them. After that Eva expertly kept herself far away from her family sight while look around for her friend but still no sight of him. Alicia has already all forgotten about her and was middling with the guest, what she herself was supposed to be doing in a room full of influence people and opportunities but she wasn't in the mood for that. She didn't want to talk to stranger or about money but her being on her own attracted just that to her. After all she wasn't someone people could decide to ignore.

She has just be able to exit herself out of yet another conversation about business and all but that one was the most productive among all those she previously had. At least he was interested in donating in her charity event.

She took her phone out of her purse and check her message. She still hasn't receive a reply from Noah since her text from earlier. She frowned, putting her phone back in her purse. Her eyes wandered, in hope of spotting him but in her misery, the one her eye laid on, whom was coming to her was one of the last person she wanted to see tonight.

"Eva, you really came! I was surprise when I heard your name be called earlier. I thought you won't," Zachariah greeted her.

Standing before her was Zachariah Anderson, her former friend which didn't see for years. He was the last person she wanted to see.
