The morning, not to Eva surprise, her head was hurting but not as much as she thought it would. She was able to wake up at the right time and make herself ready for the day without problem. The main problem was whether to order for breakfast or not. She wasn't particularly hungry even though she haven't ate since yesterday lunch. She had to eat something even if she doesn't want to because she had to take some medicine for her head.
In the end, she order breakfast before getting dress for work. She straighten her hairs and add in some extension to have it appear longer than it was. It has been a moment now that she last did it. She decided to wear a light pink pencil skirt which reaches her knee with a short slit in front. She paired it with a long sleeves white shirt leaving the two first button undo. Her pink hand bag matches her skirt.
Once ready, she carried herself to the kitchen to have breakfast but at the sight the food, she felt sick. She was hungry but unable to stomach anything at the moment. She packed it in the refrigerator planning eat it later and made her way out of the apartment. She would just try to eat something at work and then take something for her head. It wasn't that serious. If she doesn't get something for lunch, it would make it a whole day she didn't eat something.
When she exit the building, her car was already waiting for her with the valet beside, who gave her the car keys. She thanked him before getting into the car. She drove off. The view changed from high state buildings and busy road to lower buildings, the surroundings became natural the more she went further.
She stop in from of a gate and besides it was a sign saying 'Hope orphanage'. It was the orphanage directly under Eva's direction and was sponsored by her organisation, 'HOPE'. Her organisation contributed funds to provide for the less fortunate all over the globe.
The gate was opened and she drove in. It was about a hectare property where she allocated everything for the children comfort. They already lacked those of their parents at an early age and didn't want to have them lack of other things the best she could. She had money and decided it was better to spend it for the greater good. There, the children could school and play with no care in the world. They had all the place and the facilities needed.
She stopped in front of the orphanage receptions. She got out of the car and entered.
"Miss Farewell," she was greeted by the receptionist. Beside her was standing a younger woman who were going through some documents by the receptionist side. She lifted her head at sound of the greeting, her face lighted up at the sight of Eva.
"Eva!" she called happily and came to her, abandoning her documents.
She has known Eva for years now. She was herself one of the first children Eva has personally took care of. It explained her lack of use of title for a woman who was years older than herself. When she turned eighteen she decided to stay at the orphanage and work by Eva side.
"What are you doing here?" Sarah asked.
It wasn't one of the day where Eva come to the orphanage. She spent most of her time in the organisation than at the orphanage even though Eva would have prefer that latter. Today was one of those days she was at the organisation.
"I'm just passing. I forgot a document here the other day and need it," Eva said walking to her office with Sarah followed her.
Sarah nodded in understanding. Obediently walking beside her.
"Plus I want to see the kids. It has been over a week now that I didn't came here and for the days to come, I will be too busy to spare a visit,"
A busy week was waiting for her. They were soon to host another charity events to fund their next project. It would require her undivided attention as such an early stage. She won't have time to do anything else. She could delegate but there were things she preferred it to be done by herself.
"The kids were missing you already. They were all on my back asking when you will come," Sarah told her.
Eva shook her head, laughing imagining the sight of the pleading kids and the frowning Sarah. It warmed her heart to receive all that among of love.
She went to her office and fetch the document she needed but before heading to the organisation, she went to visit the kids. They were in another separate building from the administrative building. The children was all in the indoor playroom when they arrived. Immediately she step in, she was surrounded by excited kids of different ages.
"Eva!!" they shouted in unison, grinning widely at the sight of her.
Eva mirror their expression, happy to see them.
"Eva!" a little boy called her, tugging her skirt to get her attention from all the other kids to him.
He was around five years old. He shared the same dark skin as Eva but his was lighter in tune. His curly hairs was left messy all over his face. Unlike the other kids, there were no smile on his face.
Eva looked down at the little boy who was carry a serious expression.
"Lifie were bullying me every time you weren't there." he accused, pointing the little girl of same age standing beside him.
"He is lying!" Lifie protested with a hit on his head.
She glared his way offended by his accusation. Her big round black eyes would make you think of an Asian person but her blonde long hair told a different story.
"See?" Kristen pointed at his hit head who was proving his point.
Eva laughed at their ethics, making her think of herself when she was younger. Always bullying a certain person who never stop complaining but stuck to her side like Kristen does of lifie.
"They are always like this," Sarah side beside her. Watching the children arguing on whom was telling the truth and who was lying.
Eva shook her head, "I also had a friend ship like this," she said, a sad smile on. Melancholy, longing refracted in her eyes.
"What happened?" Sarah asked seeing how sad she appeared to be.
"I guest not all friendships are main to remain. We fall apart, that's all," Eva said and Sarah didn't prey in, to Eva reliefs. She didn't want to talk about it any further.
"What about Kristen adoption procedure?" Eva asked.
Her eyes on the kid who was arguing about God knows what. They had long stop arguing about who was right. When she left last week ago, there were a couple who were willing to adopt him.
"Nothing. He went against it when I told him Lifei couldn't come with him," Sarah answered. They argued all the time but was never one without the other.
"And Lifei who doesn't want to be adopted and want to stay here," Eva frowned. It was a hard situation.
It wasn't the first time Kristen refuse to be adopted. Multiple couples already tried but once they couldn't take Lifei with them, Kristen automatically decline it. Some agreed to adopt Lifei as well but they latter didn't want to be adopted by no one, causing Kristen to not be adopted as well.
"I will talk to them when I'm back," Eva said.
Lifie wanted to be adopted by no one but Eva something that Eva couldn't do. In their policy, a single person couldn't adopt a child and she wasn't planning to get married any time soon. How she wish she could adopt the kid. All she could do now was to try and convince Lifei to stop being stubborn.
"Eva!" Kristen called out of the sudden.
"You are going to marry me right? Lifie said you would not," Kristen said.
So that was what they were arguing about. Eva thought.
Eva sighed, it was they nth time he asked her the same question and she never answered it. She squatted down.
"If I'm still single when you are all grown up, I will marry you," she decided to say finally. There were no way that could ever happen, or so she hoped.
"Okay?"
"Okay!" the little boy beamed and ran to his friend to tell them the good news.
Eva laughed at him and stood up on her feet. She turned to Sarah who was smiling as well.
"I will get going," she said, to which Sarah nodded. She gave a kiss on Lifei forehead first.
Taking a last look at the busy kids who were bewitched by whatever Kristen was telling them, she walked out.
She went directly to the entrance, where her car was park without passing through the administrative building. As she walk to her car, her phone rang. She took it front her bag, Abigail name was display on the screen. She answered.
"You're late. You were supposed to be here thirty minutes ago," she scolded through the phone.
"I had to first go to the orphanage to take the documents I told you about," Eva replied opening her car door. She sat on her seat and put the document and hand bag on the passenger seat.
"They are waiting for you in your office." She said in a soft voice.
"They like in…?" Eva asked, putting on the car.
"Yep,"
Eva grunted. Understanding whom she was talking about, "I will be there in a couple of minutes" she said an end the called.
It wasn't going to be that a good day after all. She drove fast, in ten minute she was out of her car in from a state building. She gave her car key to the valet and walked in. She was greeted by her assistant, who had her coffee in hand. Eva took it and gave her the documents.
"How was the party?" Abigail asked. Trying to guess her mood because her face was showing out nothing.
"I was better off not going," Eva said after taking a sip of her drink.
It end up her having headache, an unpleasant encounter with Klaus, Melissa and her sister and had Noah feel bad. It was an awful night.
"I hoped it was the last time I got to see them but you had to tell me they asked for an appointment to which you agreed. Remember me again why you agree to this even though knowing about my feelings toward them?" Eva asked as they made their way to the lift.
It was a fifteen story building but HOPE organisation only occupied two level. Her office was on the fourth floor.
"We are an organisation who is in need of money to fund their social help projects and can't decline someone's money offer because of their director and founder petty feelings towards the donors," Abigail said.
"I'm not petty!" Eva defended herself getting out of the lift.
"Anyway, the meeting is already set so just remind yourself to be professional," she reasoned her before leaving her and going to her own office.
Eva passed busy employees who was working on their different desk. They all greeted her as she by passed them.
Ever took a deep breath before she opened the door of her own office. It was going to be a bad day.
