Chapter 4 - Dungeon

While I checked the weapons, Roskarl guided me to the other side of the town, where we found some guards guarding some stairs… it looked like that was indeed a dungeon, and we would find monsters there. I thought that all monsters were their allies, but it seems like I was wrong.

"Although we don't have much time, I will only help you when you are in a pinch. The monsters down there aren't that strong, and with your power, you should be able to handle them pretty fast. I would advise you to make some good progress today before returning to the castle. Otherwise, Her Majesty will punish you."

"What she said about the dungeon wasn't a joke? For the life of me… how many red flags can she carry by herself?"

"I don't know what you are talking about, but she never lies."

"I guess we can rule out that she isn't a tsundere who has a bone fetish. Anyway, what is my power?"

"... You can absorb the essence of the sins of the foes that you defeat, they will become your power and you defeat more of them. It is better if you learn by yourself."

That should be the seven deadly sins system… that was the power of the previous guy that put me in that mess… at least he left me something useful as an apology. In any case, I wanted to try magic since Roskarl gave me the wand… I should be able to use it, but I do not know how."

After going down some stairs and passing some torches, we arrived on the real first floor of the dungeon… the place was quite spacious, but the design was quite bland; the walls, floor, and ceiling were made of brick, and there was dust, cobwebs everywhere… I could give it a B for the design and a B for boring.

"Those stupid retards… they haven't been going here recently."

"Isn't that normal since we are at war?"

"It is because we are at war that they should come here more often to get stronger… too many people are choosing to rely on their sloth these days."

"What can sloth do?"

"See for yourself."

Roskarl was looking at something emerging from the ground, and I did the same with the sword in hand… I felt pretty weird holding the weapon, but it wasn't that heavy. It was actually pretty light, so as long as I focused on simplicity, I should be able to use it.

Regardless, I was expecting the dungeon to spawn slimes or something on the first floor to make things even more boring. Still, I found a goblin instead… one that had a club and was of my size as well… maybe that dungeon wasn't a weak one after all.

The creature charged at me while groaning in anger while I was trying to understand how it emerged from the ground… before long, it jumped and then swung its club at me. I felt that it would be pretty cool to try that, so I swung my sword as well, but when the weapons collided, I was pushed backward thanks to the momentum of the enemy's charge.

"Hihihi."

"What are you laughing for? Crazy bastard…"

It seemed that the goblin could understand my language since he furrowed his eyebrows and then charged again… I was really thankful for such a stupid creature to be my first target since I didn't have to do much. I just swung down my sword with all my might. The club of the creature broke since I hit the same spot as on the previous attack… in the next moment, the sword pierced the head of the monster. The creature stopped moving altogether before falling to the ground.

As I watched that, I wondered if the system was affecting me or if there was another issue about being a skeleton. Still, I didn't hesitate at all, and I didn't feel fear either. I didn't feel even a slight amount of guilt after watching the corpse for a few seconds… I even forgot about that when I saw a shadow moving around the body.

"Point your hand toward it,"

I obeyed, and then soon, the shadow of the corpse moved toward me and was absorbed.

{The Sin of Wrath received fifty experience points.}

"What is next?"

"It seems that you aren't that confused; that is good. Back then, you wouldn't stop asking me about this."

I could understand why that would be the case… normal people wouldn't have a system, after all. Then again, how come the other guy decided to create it? Something was off…

"We will only find goblins here, so your wrath should improve a bit. Still, unless you beat the boss on the fifth floor, I doubt that Her Majesty will be satisfied. Also, I might be helping you now, but things will be different in front of her and the other generals. You aren't popular with them."

"Why? Are they jealous, and they want to show off to the queen?"

"That is exactly why."

"You must have a hard time working alongside morons. Are they really that desperate that they would ignore all of her red flags?"

"You were a part of the problem… you can say that kind of thing in front of me since I know that you mean no harm, but the others will execute you on the spot for betrayal."

I actually meant harm, as if I would bow down to someone who put a binding spell on me that easily… I will get stronger and then find a way to free myself and enjoy my second life. No matter what…

No matter what, huh? I couldn't help but truly think that something had changed inside me… back then, I was more of a quiet guy who didn't want to get in trouble, but dying once probably made me change a bit as well. While I was thinking that, another goblin appeared at the end of the corridor.
