Chapter 27 - Unspoken Secrets

Jing Mo set down the box and went to fetch two more.

"This is three thousand bullets. The box over there originally had three hundred, but I just used two, so now there are two hundred and ninety-eight left. Consider the extras as your bonus for buying more, my gift to you."

Each bullet equated to five grams of gold, making a hundred bullets worth five hundred grams, which amounted to a full jin.

How could Su Nian possibly take such a big advantage of Jing Mo?

Silently, Su Nian took out a small yellowfish from her pocket and placed it on the table. "This is neither too much nor too little, exactly five hundred grams."

Jing Mo was speechless.

Did people casually carry gold bricks in their pockets? But seeing this large bag of gold on the floor, Jing Mo felt relieved.

With a smile, Jing Mo said, "In that case, I won't be polite."

Su Nian wouldn't mind Jing Mo being impolite; in fact, she welcomed it.

Even blood brothers kept accounts clear; they weren't familiar, so it was necessary to keep everything straight.

Jing Mo helped Su Nian by bringing several boxes into her house, but only to the doorstep, not inside, and without taking a second look.

"I mentioned wanting to visit the base yesterday. Do you have time later?" Jing Mo asked.

Meeting Jing Mo's dark, bright eyes and seeing the boxes at her feet, Su Nian eventually nodded. "Yes."

"I'll come find you after twelve; it should be cooler then."

"Okay."

After closing the door, Su Nian couldn't help but sigh.

Originally, she thought that after this meal, they would be even. But who would've thought she'd end up buying weapons from Jing Mo again?

She couldn't just turn hostile right after the deal, could she? Although her personality had become colder due to ten years of survival in the apocalypse in her past life, she still understood human relationships.

Fortunately, despite Jing Mo being talkative and seemingly familiar, he was still very tactful.

After one night of contact, they both discovered each other's secrets but had no intention of probing further. Just as Su Nian wouldn't dwell on how Jing Mo managed to bring so many bullets into the base, Jing Mo wouldn't inquire about why Su Nian had a gold brick in her pocket.

Su Nian's gaze shifted to the boxes on the ground, and her expression softened.

There was no point in overthinking; these things were the tangible reality.

Su Nian opened the boxes one by one and carefully stored their contents in her space.

For convenience, she arranged them on the same shelf.

After loading the bullets into the storage, Su Nian played with the Handwood Warehouse in her hand for a while before reluctantly putting it away, placing it on top of the box separately.

With a thought, the Handwood Warehouse could immediately appear in her hand.

Although obtaining the Handwood Warehouse was a reason to be happy, Su Nian hadn't forgotten her previous plans.

She intended to cook her own meals three times a day in the future, provided she cleaned up the kitchen first.

The kitchen window was covered with heat-insulating film, thick blackout curtains inside, and thermal curtains outside. Even with the lights on inside, no light could be seen from outside.

As the windows were sealed shut, the kitchen quickly became steamy even before cooking began.

Su Nian took out two more air conditioning fans and turned them on, along with the fridge.

With the fans running, the temperature dropped significantly.

Su Nian decided to make cold noodles and lo mein. In this scorching weather, it was better to prepare refreshing food.

These dishes not only tasted good but also didn't produce strong odors.

Su Nian wasn't sure about the sealing of the room; it was a good opportunity to test it out. If it proved to be sealed well, she could consider making stewed meat and hotpot.

Su Nian made buckwheat cold noodles. After cooking the noodles, she rinsed them with cold water, placed them in a large bowl, added various toppings and sauce packets, some crushed ice, and poured Sprite generously. A bowl of buckwheat cold noodles was ready.

Su Nian made a lot of noodles and quickly produced ten bowls.

The finished cold noodles were placed directly on the shelf for easy access whenever she wanted to eat.

After making the cold noodles, Su Nian boiled water again.

Once the water boiled, she added handmade noodles to cook.

In the previous six months, unable to cook in the apartment, Su Nian wasn't idle.

Every day, she would prepare some noodle dishes.

She would knead the dough into noodles or prepare a bowl of yeast to make steamed buns and mantou.

Even scallion pancakes, egg-filled pancakes, and the dough for various pastries like dumplings, wontons, and buns were all prepared in advance.

These items had no distinctive smell, and Su Nian would work on them slowly in her bedroom, with the air conditioning blowing.

After accumulating half a year's worth, she couldn't even count how much she had.

Now with the conditions available, Su Nian made more noodles, storing them in disposable lunch boxes for later.

Su Nian didn't stir-fry any vegetables; after all, she would be going out with Jing Mo shortly, and she didn't want to smell of oil and food in front of others.

Most people lacked food resources, and cooking was a luxury, let alone stir-frying.

If others caught a whiff of oil and food on her, it might invite trouble.

Su Nian wasn't afraid of trouble, but she preferred to avoid it when possible.

After all, Su Nian wanted a peaceful life, not constant conflict and scheming.

By the time Su Nian finished tidying up the kitchen, it was almost twelve.

Jing Mo was punctual; just past twelve, he came knocking.

Su Nian had already changed her clothes and shoes. She nodded at Jing Mo and closed her own door behind her.

There was a large iron lock on the iron gate, and Su Nian handed Jing Mo a key for easy access.

After locking the gate, the two continued down the stairs.

As they reached the fifth floor, the door of the neighboring apartment suddenly opened, and an old lady peered out, her small eyes scanning Su Nian and Jing Mo.

"Are you two the new tenants upstairs? Where were you from before? What do you do in the base now?"

Hearing the old lady's nosy inquiries, Su Nian frowned slightly. "Do you need something?"

"Just asking a question. Can't I?" The old lady continued to prattle on. "Young people nowadays don't understand the meaning of respecting elders and caring for the young..."

Listening to her chatter, Su Nian felt a headache coming on.

Su Nian wasn't afraid of people like Hu Ge or the Bald Guy; it was these gossipy and shrewd old ladies she feared.

They were strangers, yet they insisted on prying into others' lives.

Unfortunately, Su Nian couldn't simply stab her for asking a few extra questions.
