Chapter 13 - Do Gods exist?

Do Gods exist?

If Eirik were to ask this to a believer, they would immediately answer that they exist.

Before Eirik awakened, he would just scoff at them saying they were crazy for believing in them.

But, most of the time Eirik wasn't brave enough to say it to them directly. He would just close his mouth and have his brain forget about it after one or two weeks after.

Though he believed in the Creator of the System, Systema, which is not considered a God but it is named 'The Creator'. However, there was a debate about this.

Some say Systema is a God, but others, who claimed to have witnessed Systema's first appearance, Introduced herself only as 'The Creator' and not a God.

Completely different to the other Religions witnesses. When their God first appeared in front of them, they introduced themselves as Gods.

Now that he did the trial and survived, Eirik mostly credited it to the God he prayed for. After all, praying is free.

Seeing that a window appeared in front of him, Eirik was surprised. Even though he started believing in Gods, he didn't know that they would communicate to Awakened.

"Who... who are you?" Eirik carefully asked, he didn't want to have the 'God' angry at him because he was disrespectful.

[I am Fortuna! The God of Fortune!]

'Fortuna? Is there any religion that worships this God?'

The only Gods that Eirik knew were: Systema (The Creator of the System), Toffer (World God), Wizdard (Magic God), Lanista (War God).

As for Fortuna, he hadn't heard about this God, if that was the case Fortuna might be a lesser God.

[You may be thinking that I am a lesser God, hmph! I am just a child, obviously I am not known yet. My Mother is Systema and my Father is Toffer. You know them right?]

"Gods can get kids too?"

[Obviously! Gods were h**a* t** b**or* t*h** b*c**m* G**s!]

Looking at the incomprehensible words appearing in front of him, Eirik couldn't understand what Fortuna was trying to say. For a while he stood silent, afraid of commiting a mistake in front of this God.

[What the heck is this? An error? I said something that I shouldn't say? Hmph! There must be a bug! I'm gonna ask my mother to fix it.]

Eirik wanted to be sure that God wasn't supervising him anymore, so he waited silently for a while before confirming.

"Hello? God Fortuna?" After a few seconds, a message from the system didn't appear anymore.

Having escaped away from God, Eirik heaved a sigh.

What he experienced just now was very scary, after all he felt that God could crush him in one hand even though Fortuna was just sending messages via his System Window.

Also, what increased his fear more was when Fortuna mentioned his parents.

Knowing that those Gods are real, Eirik felt something inside him. As if he was just an ant compared to them, someone who might die immediately within a slit of a second from those God's thoughts.

"I... I need to get stronger."

When relief overtook his body, this was the first thing that came to Eirik's mind. To get stronger.

If that Fortuna came back, Eirik at least wanted to be in his best state. Someone who wouldn't feel fear when talking to them via his System Window.

***

In the past few days before the Eirik's Court Trial, he did do anything special at all. They were all mundane things that he usually did in the prison on uneventful days.

After eating his ordinary bacon and egg breakfast, Eirik was waiting for the Warden to escort him to the Court.

As soon as the Warden came in to take him, Eirik heaved a deep sigh.

He didn't want his nervousness to occupy his whole being for the Court Trial later, he wanted to be in his best so he could defend himself well in front of the judge.

Hopefully, he could prove his innocence faster so he could finally escape from this prison.

Even though Eirik tried hard to calm himself down as he went to the Court, he couldn't prevent his heart from beating fast.

For each step, he could hear at least 8 beats sounding on his chest.

Standing in front of the Court's door, Eirik heaved another deep sigh.

"You can do it! You can do this Eirik!"

When the door opened, Eirik nervously took a step inside and looked in front of him.

The court was relatively empty. There was only his lawyer, the judge, and some Government Agents.

For each step that he made inside this room, he could hear his ears ringing. His eyes were nervously looking around, and he could smell something bitter.

The only thing that Eirik could trust now was the Reading Machine that could save his life.

Hopefully, they will be using it in this trial.

As he sat down in his position, he suddenly heard some gasp coming from the Agents who came inside.

When Eirik looked at them, he was confused.

Was there something on his face?

Soon, the judge also stopped on his track as he looked at Eirik.

This time, Eirik really wished that he had a mirror in his hand. He wanted to see what was wrong with him.

Due to the current situation, Eirik wasn't as nervous as he was before. Maybe having something on himself that caused a commotion in the Court isn't bad at all.

At least, it definitely calmed down his nervous heart.

Cough, cough.

As the time for the Court Trial starts, the judge coughed in order to get the attention of all the people present.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, thank you for your service. Today, we are gathered here to determine the truth in Lorcan Grimhak's Unlicensed Distribution of Potions in the Public. Your role is crucial in delivering justice. Keep an open mind, listen attentively, and base your decision solely on the evidence presented."

When the Judge gave his opening speech, Eirik clenched his fist.

"Please let me be innocent..."
