6: "Mission as an older brother". Early Early Monday, Wilhelm awoke. It was before his usual time. A task waited. He needed to take Nathaniel to kindergarten. The usual task of his mother. Wilhelm didn't want to trouble his grandmother. So, he was most gentle.
Grandmother was nearly seventy years. For the first time, Wilhelm spent extra time preparing. To make sure he was quiet. The house was all quiet and still. He made a careful watch. Nathaniel finished the food on his plate. Wilhelm made sure that he had everything for the day. Before stepping out of the house.
Wilhelm's blond hair was long enough to reach his shoulders. He put it up high on his head in ponytail. Wilhelm felt uncomfortably aware of his appearance. Yet made no fuss about it. "Are you set, Nate?" Wilhelm asked. He bent toward his brother. A smile on his face.
The nodding Nathaniel was very excited to head off to kindergarten with his big brother. "Let's go!" he replied, grabbing his bag and running toward the door. Wilhelm laughed and followed him, remembering to lock up behind them. Off they went, walking together to kindergarten; Wilhelm took Nathaniel by the hand for safety.
After dropping off Nathaniel, Wilhelm headed forward to his own school and started the day off right by first stopping for some breakfast in the cafeteria. He then went to homeroom class, which happened to be with Ms. Ostling, his English teacher.
"Good morning, Wilhelm," said Ms. Ostling with a cheerful smile. "How are you today?"
"I'm fine, thanks," Wilhelm lied wearily; this morning's wake-up call had been exceedingly early. "Just a little sleepy."
Ms. Ostling nodded sympathetically. "I know the feeling. But I am sure you will perk right up once we begin our lesson," she said, gesturing for him to take a seat.
Wilhelm smiled, pleased that his teacher understood the situation. He sat at his desk and got ready for the day, feeling proud to take on this responsibility of being a good older brother.
Nathaniel nodded. He was excited. Big brother was going to take him to kindergarten. "Let's go!" he said. He took his backpack. He ran towards the door. Wilhelm laughed. Then he followed, remembering to lock the door. They walked to the kindergarten side by side. Wilhelm held Nathaniel's hand. Thereby he kept him safe.
After dropping Nathaniel, Wilhelm headed to his school. It was time to begin his day. He passed by the cafeteria to grab some breakfast. He then hasted to his homeroom class. The class was conducted under Ms. Ostling. She was Wilhelm English teacher too.
"Good morning, Wilhelm" Greeted Ms. Ostling. She greeted with a friendly smile. "How are you today?"
"I'm fine, thank you." Wilhelm replied. He was feeling a little tired. Because he had woken up early. "Just a little sleepy."
Ms. Ostling nodded sympathetically, "I understand." She assured him. "But I know you'll be awake when we get started."
She beckoned to Wilhelm at his desk. Wilhelm smiled. He was grateful. Grateful for his teacher. The teacher was kind.
He then sat down next. Getting ready for the day ahead was what he had to do. Proud of himself, he felt. For he had duty left. That duty was that of a good older brother.
