Then, a deafening boom echoed through the air, followed by a powerful explosion on the western side of the park, near the boundary of the rift, the bubble. As the shockwave rippled outward, the force of the blast reverberated through the surrounding area, sending tremors of panic and chaos through the nearby neighbourhoods and buildings.
Amidst the chaos, the distant sounds of approaching car sirens mixed with the desperate howls of wolves for help were sounded, creating a cacophony of noise that filled the air. The wolves, sensing the impending danger of their companions, momentarily abandoned their pursuit of Li Meiling, their attention drawn towards the source of the commotion. The wolves that were on the carts below her also dropped down as they tried to climb up so there were no wolves near her anymore.
Li Meiling let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, relief flooding through her as the immediate threat subsided. However, her respite was short-lived as she watched in dismay as the Ferris Wheel beneath her began to wobble and creak ominously.
The ice she had conjured to immobilize the wolves had inadvertently weakened the structural integrity of the ride, leaving it vulnerable to their relentless assault. Though they had left, the damage they had dealt was imminent. With each passing moment, the looming danger became more apparent, and Li Meiling felt a surge of panic rise within her.
Just as despair threatened to consume her, she spotted a figure in the distance, their gaze fixed intently on her position. Though her voice was barely a whisper, she called out to them, her plea lost amidst the chaos of the scene.
To her surprise, the person responded by pointing to a small black device strapped to their wrist. Fumbling in her bag, Li Meiling retrieved a similar device which was a radio phone, her fingers trembling as she attempted to activate it. Before she could fully comprehend its functions, a voice crackled to life from the device in her hand.
"Hello?"
Li Meiling's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the voice on the other end of the line.
"Hello?" she responded, her voice filled with a mixture of disbelief and relief.
"Yes, hello," came the reply, confirming that she wasn't imagining things.
"Meiling, why are you here?" the voice asked, concern evident in its tone.
"Don't you know it's dangerous?"
"That's what I should be telling you, gege," Li Meiling replied, using the term of endearment for her older brother. Despite the dire circumstances, a sense of comfort washed over her at the sound of his voice, knowing that help was finally within reach. But she couldn't help but feel a tinge of heart ache when she heard him calling him Meiling instead of Mei-Mei which he used to call her when they were young.
"Anyways, can you jump down?" Weifeng asked.
"How?"
"Just jump down, I will catch you," Li Weifeng replied calmly, his voice steady and reassuring.
"You know it's a 20 meter height, right, gege?" Li Meiling questioned,
"Yes," Li Weifeng affirmed, his confidence unwavering.
"Do you have something to use?" Li Meiling inquired, seeking reassurance.
"Yes," came the simple reply.
"Fine, I will trust you," Li Meiling conceded, her trust in her brother outweighing her fear.
With a deep breath, she made the decision to leap, placing her faith in Li Weifeng's ability to catch her. As she plummeted towards the ground, a rush of adrenaline coursed through her veins, and for a brief moment, time seemed to stand still.
The scene unfolded like something out of a movie as Li Weifeng sprang into action as he jumped, his movements fluid and precise. With impeccable timing, he reached out and caught Li Meiling in his arms midair, his touch gentle yet firm.
Li Meiling closed her eyes as she fell, bracing herself for impact, but when she opened them again, she found herself cradled in Li Weifeng's embrace, unharmed and safe.
"Can you stand?" Li Weifeng asked, his concern evident in his voice.
He asked and she finally snapped out of her stunned state.
"Gege, why are you here?"
"Don't you know it's dangerous inside a rift"
"I could ask you the same"
"Why are you here?"
"I...."
She wanted to explain but howls were sounded,
"We have no time left, you can explain to me later"
Li Meiling nodded, though her legs felt weak and unsteady beneath her. She attempted to move, but her injured ankle protested, causing her to wobble precariously. She had tripped when jumping onto the cart when she was getting chased.
"Ok, plan B," Li Weifeng declared, his tone decisive as he adjusted his grip on her.
With practiced ease, he hoisted Li Meiling onto his back, securing her legs behind him as she clung to him tightly, her heart pounding in her chest.
With a deafening crash, the Ferris wheel toppled to the ground, sending shockwaves rippling through the surrounding area. The noise reverberated through the air, echoing off nearby buildings and stalls, drawing the attention of anyone within earshot, including the prowling wolves who now sought vengeance for their fallen comrades.
Unbeknownst to the wolves, the perpetrator of their allies' demise was the very same person now fleeing the scene with his half sister securely on his back. Weifeng darted through the alleyways and buildings of the theme park, his heart pounding with adrenaline as he sought refuge from the relentless pursuit of the hungry pack.
Emerging into a nearby neighbourhood exiting from the theme park, Weifeng wasted no time in seeking higher ground. Racing up the stairs of a nearby building, he reached the second floor, the highest vantage point available. But he knew it wouldn't be long before the wolves caught up.
Quickly descending back to the entrance, Weifeng saw the incoming wolves coupled with momentum and speed. As he timed the speed of the wolves, he took out a few bottles as the wolves came to the entrance. The first bottle hit the face of the first wolf which tried to came in through the doors and burned the face of it as well as spewed it all over the entrance of the house. Then the second bottle which was shot started a green fire on the place of the spewn green acidic liquid. As the fire stopped to burn after a while, the wolves thought it was fine to come up but as they touched the ash, a small explosion was sounded.
With the immediate threat momentarily subdued, Weifeng sprinted back upstairs, where Li Meiling awaited his return. Without hesitation, he scooped her up in a princess carry, surprising her with his swift and decisive action.
As he leaped from the balcony, Li Meiling closed her eyes, bracing herself for the rush of wind. But when she opened them again, she found herself soaring through the air with Weifeng, the wind whipping past her face.
'Wind boots'
They were items which increased speed and gave jump boost and fell as lightly as a feather after jump and were tier 3 items. It used the wearer's mana to give these effects but they were quite useful. Observing the wind boots adorning Weifeng's feet, Li Meiling realized the source of their newfound agility and speed as well as the reason why he was able to catch her when she jumped from the Ferris Wheel.
