Hazel looked around at the various shifters clashing around her, the screams, the blood, and the horror. Yet she was unmoved.
Anticipation was simply building up in her as she hoped. Prayed even.
'Brandon... please do show up.'
He had mentioned that the rogue were going to attack and he was going to use that distraction to save her.
But where was he?
Been under the gaze of two dangerous rogue was quite unsettling.
But then Selena released her claw, startling Hazel. She stepped closer, looking down at Hazel, but Hazel, though nervous, raised her head to meet hers.
"I never liked that arrogant look in your eyes. Thinking you were so different."
"Well, I never liked your face," Hazel responded.
"Then I'm doing you a favor. You'll never get to see it again."
"A relief. But it's too bad you're the one who's going to kill me. I wanted to die by the hands of someone relevant."
"Crazy bitch. I'm so going to enjoy watching you bleed to death."
Selena stretched her hand backwards, ready to strike down Hazel. Hazel wondered if this was the end, shutting her eyes. But then—
...
"Aaah!"
Selena screamed in pain as she staggered backward. Her eyes in horror, as everything from the elbow of her left hand to her finger was gone.
A cloaked figure had intervened at the last moment, cutting off Selena's hand from the shoulder with his sword.
Lupin's eyes widened in shock. A masked man had suddenly appeared and had taken off Selena's hand. He immediately tried to use his ability on him, but thanks to the mask the figure wore, he couldn't catch his eyes.
The masked man then wielded his sword, releasing an ice spike that headed straight at Lupin. Lupin managed to evade the attack, but multiple spikes followed, forcing him backward. The attacks stopped, and Lupin exhaled. The rush of the attack had left him breathless, as it had required him to put all of his focus and energy into evading.
"Who are you?" Lupin asked, but the mysterious figure didn't reply. Lupin frowned. He could tell this figure wasn't ordinary and was going to be a problem.
The masked man turned towards Hazel, and immediately she recognized who it was. He wore the same wooden mask as the one he had on when he had visited her in the cell.
"Brandon," Hazel sighed, relieved that he did not let her down.
He casually walked behind Hazel and then used his sword to break the chain binding her hands. Hazel felt relief in her wrists and rubbed them soothingly, though the chain had left burning marks. They would heal thanks to a shifter's natural healing ability.
"You did a good job waiting, Rebel," Brandon praised.
"I didn't think you'd show up."
"That's disappointing. I thought you'd have more confidence in me."
Hazel smiled at this, finding his voice really reassuring.
He moved forward, standing in front of her, facing the two, who watched him with nervousness in their eyes. Hazel found this amusing and was more sated at the sight of Selena in pain.
"You bastard! I'll rip you to pieces," Selena yelled hatefully as she held her shoulder. It was no longer bleeding as it had healed to some extent. Her limbs also hadn't grown back. Not that it could. The only way she could fully heal was to grab her detached limb and join it, holding it in place while her healing factor did its work. She just had to get her limb.
She communicated it to Lupin through their mind link, and Lupin confirmed with a nod. Brandon seemed to have noticed their plan, and he wasn't planning to let them succeed. He stabbed his sword into Selena's detached limb, and she flinched.
Lupin wasted no time charging at Brandon, but Brandon raised his second hand, releasing a cold wave that pushed Lupin backward.
"Good luck ripping me to pieces with one hand," Brandon taunted. And Selena's eyes widened in shock. He then froze her detached limb and made it explode into pieces.
"No!" Selena yelled, her chin trembling. She felt resentment towards the masked man but could do nothing about it. She knew she stood no chance against him. And that pissed her off. So she turned towards her partner, who she believed could do something.
"Lupin!" she called, but he didn't respond to her. The cold wave that had hit his body had caused frostbite that stung. His blessing was useless against the mysterious figure thanks to the mask. Meaning if they fought one on one, he would most certainly lose.
"Your limb can always be replaced."
Lupin said to Selena, but she gritted her teeth.
"He has to pay."
"He would. I've called for backup."
As soon as he said that, a huge muscular man climbed onto the platform. His muscles were thick and solid, and he held the decapitated head of a woman by the hair. This woman was the female enforcer who had led the attack against the rogue. And had fought with the raven. She had managed to take down the raven but then the muscular man had shown up. Gripping her by the neck. And tearing her head off her body with pure brute strength.
"Lupin, you called. How odd. You never call," the muscular man said with a loud voice.
"Unless it's important. And it rarely ever is." Lupin added. He disliked that he had to ask him for help.
The muscular man turned towards Brandon. Noting his aura. And then nodded.
"I see. No wonder you had such a hard time."
He then turned towards Selena and saw he hand had been cut off.
"Tsk Tsk...useless."
"Bastard...who are you calling useless."
Selena yelled raining curses but the muscular man paid no heed to her.
He let out a wide grin showing his eagerness for battle, and then tossed the head of the female he held, towards his opponent.
Brandon glanced at the head as it rolled towards him, and when his eyes caught the face, he froze. He recognized who this was.
"Laura..."
