"Hey, Remi. Did the device sell?" A few days had passed since we met the cockatrice.
This was the rare time Janis had not stayed by my side, and now that I was free, I decided to go to Remi's pawnshop to inquire about something.
"It sold better than expected. Tech geeks are a whole different breed. They're people willing to sell their entire fortune for a tool." Remi told me about the general situation regarding the TV she sold. All Remi gave out was a silly smile at the fortune she had made.
"So, what brings you here? Do you want anything from my shop?" Being a possible customer, she asked in delight.
Since Janis gave me the storage ring, she has also given me more than enough money to last a lifetime. A woman who could provide for me was strange but not unwelcome, and I should be grateful for it.
"Well, honestly, I want you to tell me where you got that device. I will provide some cash for that information." While I may not know much about Remi, she is a full-blown greedy person who desires wealth. A goblin like her should be tempted.
"There's no need to pay. The information isn't worth much, and I doubt you would get anything from it. Someone found it on the east shore of the island. I paid a low price for it and got a high return." I was surprised that Remi told me it was for free, but she was correct that it didn't seem worth much. I would have to go there myself to see if there were any possible connections to it.
"Then, do you have any new products or old products that might interest me?" Maybe I could find something interesting since I was already in her pawnshop.
I would feel like a jerk for coming to someone's store with whom I was barely acquainted and questioning them without getting any of their services.
"You made the right choice. Earlier today, I made a deal, and with these two new items, I bet you would be interested in them." Remi went to the shelf and took a bracelet, and next to it was a cane.
"I'm not much of an accessory or showy type of person." Other than the ring Janis had given me, I didn't necessarily want more accessories on me. I had gathered enough attention. I didn't want to be approached just because of the wealth I was given.
"Are you sure? These artifacts are life-saving treasures." Remi said cheerfully as she tried her best to do a pitch-sale.
"No, it's okay. I don't need them." It's not that I don't trust Remi. It's just that I think it would be better if Janis were with me. She would easily know if the deal was worth it or not.
"Well, thanks for the information. If there is anything else that is interesting, I will pop up." Seeing that I bought nothing, Remi was bummed out and bid me farewell.
I left the store without doing any more business with it. I wonder what I should do next. Janis had something crucial. Maybe I should just explore more of the town.
~
"Good afternoon." Returning home, I found a guest in the living room.
I didn't know this person, but it would seem like she was a friend of Janis. This elf had long, pale blue hair going to her waist. Her eyes matched her hair, making it a sight to behold. Compared to Janis, this elf was much calmer.
"Hello, I'm Roy. It's a good afternoon to you too. Are you a friend of Janis?" There was no harm in introducing myself.
"I'm Merilyn, the chief of this village. If you were wondering where Janis is, she's on the other side of the room." She hadn't answered my question, but judging by her tone, they seemed to be on excellent terms. I didn't think I would meet the village chief this early and like this.
"Roy? Welcome back!" Janis, who returned, had smiled upon my arrival.
"Should I leave? I will be in my room if you need me." I didn't know whether Merilyn wanted me to be here, so I suggested staying out of this.
"There's no need for you to do so. We were discussing the problem in the east of this village. You were a victim of this incident, so I thought you would be curious about it." Hearing this, I sat on an empty chair and waited for the village chief to speak.
The three slimes were still an unresolved problem the village had to deal with. If they were attacking everything in sight, I wondered how much destruction these three troublesome monsters had caused.
I couldn't help but shudder at the fact that those things almost violated me, and thinking of it now, I want to be there when these monsters are going to face their demise.
I never thought this deal would affect me this much. Living a quiet life and despising something or someone was genuinely challenging. I never thought I would see the day when I wanted something gone.
Changes in my personality were already appearing, and living in this world, I was sure the changes would continue. Accepting this fact, I couldn't help but look forward to it. There may be people who are afraid of these changes, but I was someone who could accept them.
"Could I ask how you're planning to deal with those slimes?" I asked both Janis and Merilyn.
"I had already asked a few adventures for help. We will meet tomorrow, and Janis will lead the charge here. We will finish the slimes with a sealing stone if they are unkillable." The plan was fairly simple. They plan to kill the slimes if possible, and if not, they will seal them away.
"During this operation, would it be possible for me to tag along?"
