With the water still flowing up, it was hard to tell whether the slime was in the sky. As moments passed, the water going up fell, and with a clearer view, we searched for its presence in the lake.
"Janis, we did it!" Seeing that the slime wasn't in the lake and finding it was flying in the sky, we knew we had done it. Janis' magic was successful, and now we had to prevent it from landing on it and letting it return.
"Roy! I will need you to hold off the slime while trying to make it stay away from the lake." Before we celebrated, we had to stop the slime from returning to the lake.
Janis had used up all of her mana. She took out a potion that looked like water to replenish her lost mana. The mana potion Janis took specialized in recovering wind magic. Unlike games where only a blue mana potion would solve anything, the mana people have in this world is elemental-specialized.
To know an affinity for one's mana, all you need to see is the color of the mana they have. Janis and I had a dark yet transparent mana that corresponded to the element of wind, meaning if she drank any mana potion other than the wind element, it would cause more harm than damage to her foundation.
With Janis downing her potion and recovering, the scroll she had on her was now out. The slime was still in the air and was about to fall, and with our sight on it, I tried my best to snipe it, stopping it from landing back onto the lake.
Out of all the elements Janis and I had, wind magic was the best tool for pushing things around. Before it could land on the lake, I created a mini-tornado aimed at the slime. I sent it back to the forest with the correct timing, shooting it and landing the attack.
"Hurry! We have to chase it down before it escapes!" Janis yelled as I sent it flying. Luckily, the slime flew back far enough to be visible to our eyes and far enough for us to stop it before it reached the lake. We could catch up if we ran fast enough, using mana as our source.
"Janis, if you could please pass me a mana potion, I'm running low." When I got to the slime, I had one-fourth of my reservoir.
Janis threw a green potion at me unexpectedly quickly, and because of this, I almost dropped it. The only reason I could catch it was because of my enhanced reaction to the bond Janis and I had.
Drinking the same mana potion Janis had drunk, the incredible sensation of the drink poured in, and I felt a sense of relief as the exhaustion I had washed away. Having a second stamina bar, my mana pool, made me reliant on it.
I didn't know how I could function without mana. It was like a drug without many side effects. If I return to Earth, I wonder if I can part with it.
Anyway, as we encountered the slime again, we could see the fear coming from it. Knowing we could beat it up, it begged for mercy.
"Pui~! Pui~!"
"Janis! Seal it!" Putting a wind barrier around it to encase it. No matter what this slime did, sealing was inevitable. The slime tried its best to break free, but Janis would have already sealed it before my mana ran out.
The sealing process is about to begin, with the scroll summoning a formation. Janis was muttering the chant in an inhumanly fast speech, almost making it impossible to know what she was trying to say.
"How pretty." The seal we made was high-profile. As the sealing process happened, a yellow light beam covered a large chunk of the forest. Soon, a circle of golden light descended around my barrier of wind, replacing it.
"Pui!!! Pui!!!" In a last-ditch effort, the slime tried to implode itself into self-destruction. The body expanded, but before it could detonate, the seal had finished.
"WE DID IT!" I screamed excitedly, finally removing this pest that had haunted me for nearly a week. I ran up to Janis and gave her the most emotional hug I had ever given.
"Ehehe~!" For the first time, I saw Janis embarrassed by my embrace. Since I was never that active in physical contact, as I never took the initiative, watching her blush and giggle like a person madly in love was a refreshing sight.
This embarrassed state didn't last long. She got her grip, but in return, the emotions I gave out were returned a hundredfold. She hugged me to the point where I almost couldn't breathe, and with her extremely touchy nature, it was hard to focus on what we needed to do next.
"Janis, what should we do about the others?" As much as I like to rest, others may have issues, and prolonging this would only add to them.
"We should take it slow. Despite it being a quick fight, this one was draining." She wasn't wrong. While this fight lasted less than five minutes, we had to use a lot of our arsenal just to get this monster to leave the stupid lake.
The potion we drank might have helped a lot, but it was still an artificial, foreign energy that wasn't natural to our bodies. The side effects weren't dangerous but would slow our ability to regenerate mana. This side effect should last the whole day, indicating that we shouldn't use much more mana unless necessary. We could keep using potions, but the side effects would only worsen. While a few days didn't seem much, racking it up was only something we would do as a last resort.
Since Janis wanted to take it slow, I followed her, and we went toward our next target, the pink slime. The pink slime was a more dangerous monster, and although I don't doubt any of the slime could fight multiple of their counterparts, the ability to enhance someone's lust was a pain.
