"Is that it?" Five hours later, we found a lake and the scene of a "person" bathing in a lake. To me, this scene was too familiar. It may not have been the same for Janis, but it was the source of all my troubles.
"Janis, let's take it out in one move." Seeing how stupid it looked irritated me even more, mainly because it had me cornered before.
Janis nodded, agreeing with what I said. Since it was unguarded and prone to a sneak attack, we could finish this slime off and assist with the other teams.
"Let's do this together in the count of three." Charging up our magic, we waited for the timer to go down.
"Three." Starting down the countdown, the magic we had flared up.
"Two." We were far enough along that it was hard to sense the magic we were using. Unless the slime's sensitivity was extremely high, it would sense it, and our advantage would disappear.
"One." The form of our magic appeared, and what we made was a spiral of wind.
"Go!" Janis, who made the call, had us launch our attack.
The spiral magic made out of the wind was launched, and combining our magic, anything near it was paved away like the stampede of a rampaging bull that pushed everything out of the way. The tree, the grass, and even the dirt were all affected by it.
Immediately after we launched our magic, we didn't stop and ran toward the slime, checking its condition.
Because of the dust, it was hard to know the condition, but Janis took out her scroll and started the incantation.
With the dust settling down, the slime we blew up started to reform. However, what surprised us was that the speed of this regeneration shouldn't be this quick.
"Pui~! Pui~!!!" Fully regenerated and ready to fight, the slime saw me and started to run toward me, just like our first meeting.
An unpleasant memory relapse, and before I could go through the memory lane, Janis' voice overlapped it.
"Back off! He's mine!" Janis became enraged after the monster ignored her. Quickly after saying that, she sent a shred of wind, hoping to cut off a chunk of the slime's body.
The attack Janis made was successful, and the hope we had returned. Second later, it faded away when we saw this slime absorb the lake to recover its body.
"Janis, we have to get this slime out of this lake!" Seeing how it could recover with the help of the lake's body, the only way we could defeat it was to push it out.
Janis had already seemed to figure it out, but without letting us take the initiative, the blue slime expanded more of its body with more water.
"Fuck." With the slime's ability to absorb the water in the lake, its arm had enlarged to the size of a mature tree.
What should I do? I had internally freaked out, trying to figure out what I should do. However, when I thought about it, I found the weak point, where the shoulder was still small, and cutting off the support of the giant arm was the most effective move anyone could make.
"Yes!!!" Immediately charging an attack, I made a blade and sliced the arm off, making the large volume fall back to the lake. In doing so, a large splash hit the lake, pushing the current of water and anything near it back. My whole body became wet, making it uncomfortable. As for Janis, she had made a barrier out of the wind, stopping the small wave of water from hitting her.
"Pui!!! Pui!!!" Watching me fight back, the slime felt threatened, but just like before, it wanted to capture me. The slime's first target was Janis, who was in the way.
Though her target was Janis, the slime didn't move out of the lake, knowing where her advantages lay. Of course, we could always escape, knowing that the chances of the slime chasing us would be close to none.
Since it had some shred of intelligence, there was no way for it to leave, knowing we could somehow deal with it. But before we left, there were still many options to consider when taking out this slime.
Our first move had already lost me a fourth of my mana. This was an impossible fight, unless we could get the blue slime to leave the lake.
I had stopped the blue slime's first attack, and Janis had planned for the next step. However, from the looks of it, Janis would need a bit more time before she could unleash her attack.
With the blue slime recovered, the second attack arrived. Unlike the slow charge-up attack, the blue slime went on a rampage and started attacking Janis with everything it had.
Standing in front of her, I would naturally have to protect her. The best I could do was make a wall made of wind, and with magic being a superior power source compared to the slime's absorption of water, it was simply no match against the wall I put out.
"Janis! Anytime now!" With a constant barrage of large volumes of water thrown out by the slime, my wall wouldn't last long.
"I'm done." Janis calmly stated as she readied up her magic. It was the highest output Janis had ever made, and no matter how I thought about it, I didn't see myself surviving such an attack if she aimed it at me.
Despite having 65% of her abilities, I was still inferior to her by a lot. The pool of mana she had was something I couldn't compare to.
With her magic ready, I quickly moved out of the way. I had realized that the magic she had released wouldn't be directly on her. I had known what she had in store if that was the case.
"WHOOSH!" Janis caused a twister under the lake. The water had flown toward the sky. While most of the lake was still intact, what mattered more was the slime's condition. If the slime was lifted to the sky, our first step would have been completed, but if it stayed, then this battle was a loss.
