Chapter 30 - Start (1)

When Vanessa woke up, she felt really comfortable, thanks to the fact that Aaron was hugging her. She enjoyed that feeling for a while since, despite the fact that he would spend most of his time in his lab, Aaron had strong arms since he played a lot of basketball after he graduated from high school when he was eleven… but soon realized that he wasn't asleep and soon turned around.

"Did something happen?" Vanessa asked once she saw Aaron's eyes looking at her.

"You won't believe me even if I were to tell you," Aaron replied.

"Try me," Vanessa furrowed her eyebrows.

Aaron explained everything in a concise manner in less than five minutes. He also passed the data in the memory card to her. It was quite surprising that he was still using his head that well when he just slept for three hours.

"Yes, I don't believe you," Vanessa said. "I told you to sleep more and take a few naps at work."

"You did that?" Aaron frowned.

"You don't listen to anything the others say when you are in that damn lab," Vanessa got up from the bed and then threw the pillow on his face.

"Anyway, even if I lost my mind, the data is correct," Aaron said and then got up as well. "If I were to go to a psychiatric facility or to another galaxy, you would have to help me with this. We need to buy time. Otherwise, we will have to choose who will live and who will die, and no human has the right to that decision."

Vanessa also worked in the same lab, but she wasn't as workaholic as Aaron. Still, she was able to check the data on her laptop. She didn't find anything wrong with it. If Aaron's predictions were to take place, then Earth, as they know it, would be gone in less than fifty years.

"My other idea was to access the resources, people, and environment of all countries to check what would be the best option for them to survive, but then they appeared… I will have to leave that job for you," Aaron explained while he was packing some clothes in a backpack.

"You are really serious about this…" Vanessa studied her husband for a while, and he didn't seem different than usual. "If what you said is true, that would explain why you are so good at everything. Aside from socializing, teamwork, and listening to me when you have to."

"The trait thing? That is the part that I find the hardest to believe, so far, we never found anything that could determine that some people can be smarter or stronger than the others, not on this scale at least," Aaron shook his head.

"Of all things that you heard, that was what you had a hard time believing in?" Vanessa said and facepalmed. "Anyways, is there anything that you can say to make me realize that such a crazy thing is actually true?"

"There is, but then you won't see me… I have to give them an answer today, and I don't know when I will return… everything here will be in your hands," Aaron replied after he finished packing his things and then approached Vanessa before hugging her and feeling her nice morning smell. "People probably won't believe us until something big happens, and I don't have time to explain everything to everyone, so I will record a video and explain a few things. After that, it will be up to you."

Vanessa hugged him back and once again confirmed that Aaron was serious about all that. Letting him work as much as he wanted every day was one thing. He was just a few kilometers away, after all. Letting him go on that crazy quest was another matter altogether.

"Isn't there any other option? Can't I go with you?" Vanessa asked.

"No, there isn't," Aaron replied. "I spent the night thinking… perhaps if we go on a quest to dominate the world in ten years and enslave everyone away to work toward the same goal for another ten years, that would work, but the chances are less than one percent. I would rather avoid such a troublesome path. Also, with me gone, I can only trust you with that… I will try to return as soon as I finish my first job or something, but I don't know how long that will take, so don't worry too much about it."

"How can you say such a stupid thing?" Vanessa asked and then hit him in the chest.

"It is better than raising a death flag saying things like if I don't return or some shit," Aaron shrugged. "I will miss you… I will miss this fine ass too."

Vanessa pulled him away since he was touching her there with perverted thoughts so early in the morning and then hit his stomach with her elbow. It wasn't time to joke around, and yet…

"... I am ready," Aaron said and then grunted while he was on his knees on the ground. "Until later, my red angel."

Before she could say anything, Aaron vanished, and Vanessa opened her eyes wide… she thought that he had come up with some excuse to fool around while traveling the world, but it seemed that he had told the truth…
