Chapter 15 - Chapter Fourteen: Fighting Direwolves

After entering the hut, we were asked to sit on a mat in the room. The old man made an effort to offer us some tea, but we politely refused.

The old man then went and sat down on the mat while facing us, and we began asking him questions.

"Sir, can you tell us what kind of monsters are attacking your village?" Dora asked the old man while I paid attention and listened to what the man would say.

"Before that, can you both tell me your adventurers' rank?"

He must want to know if we are strong enough to handle his request. We didn't hesitate to answer him.

"I am a newly A-rank adventurer."

"And I am a B-rank adventurer."

The old man was shocked as he heard my rank.

"By the gods! To think an A-rank adventurer will come to the aid of our small village. What am I going to do?"

His reaction when he heard of my rank is quite strange. I have to ask.

"Is there something wrong with me being an A-rank adventurer?"

"Oh no. There is nothing wrong at all. In fact, I am actually happy to have you here in our little village. It's just that this village doesn't have enough money to pay for the service of someone of your caliber, and I am wondering what to do."

The old man was nervous, but I understand his worries. Basically, A-rank adventurers are all in the A-rank realm and they are all seen as gods due to their power and how rare they are. Due to this, payment for the service of A-rank adventurers is usually in gold coins depending on the level of their mission.

That is true for normal adventurers, but I am different. I am in no need for money. My pocket dimension is filled with gold coins I've been creating ever since I learned about their value from Dora. I don't know the exact number I've created, but it has exceeded a million.

So money is the least of my worries.

"You don't have to worry about that, sir. The original payment of 50 silver coins will be enough. Now can you tell us the details of the job?"

"Yes, of course. Our village is being attacked by direwolves. We don't know why, but every night direwolves will storm our village and attack anything in their path. Some of the villagers have been injured and some have died. We spent all our village savings on buying a talisman that creates a barrier to ward off monsters. It is the barrier that is keeping the direwolves away from the village currently, but the effect of the barrier will disappear tonight, which is why we are in serious need of strong adventurers like you two."

Listening to the old man describe their circumstance made my anger for the direwolves increase. But one thing I don't understand is that direwolves are weak monsters that require a D-rank in the master realm or an C-rank in the lower realm to take down. So how can they cause problems that will require a B-rank adventurer?

Dora must have been confused as well because she asked the question on my mind.

"Direwolves are not particularly strong creatures and are easy to kill. How many were there to have caused your village this much problem?"

"I don't know the exact number, but the villagers told me that their number exceeded three hundred."

That would explain why the request is for B-rank adventurers. True, direwolves aren't that strong, but that number is too much for any adventurer that is not B-rank. After all, only in B-Rank will the amazing power of a rank be shown.

Having obtained the information we need, I left with Dora to make our preparations.

Before long, it was already nighttime. Dora and I were standing side by side at the front of the village field, which is where the direwolves usually attack from. The villagers were some distance behind us, with the men among them holding some farm tools as weapons.

As we waited, I heard a wolf howl in the distance which signaled that the direwolves were coming.

"Get ready, Dora."

"I'm always ready, my sweet Lili."

Dora said as she brought out her weapon, which was a pair of two female fans made of silver iron with pink flower designs. These pair of fans were secret treasures, which are the highest-known weapons in the world. I obviously created them for her because she asked me to.

Oh! I forgot to mention, but weapons are classified into four types. There are Normal Weapons, National Treasures, Legendary Weapons, and Sacred Treasures.

The Normal Weapons are common weapons that are found and sold everywhere. These weapons are usually being bought by D and C-rank adventurers due to how common they are.

The National Weapon is mostly used by kingdom's knights due to its power. It requires a talented blacksmith to make, and its power is strong enough to wipe out a forest depending on the the power of the user. It can also be found in mid-rank dungeons by adventurers.

The Legendary Weapons are those weapons that have made a name in history. These weapons are strong enough to be called legendary because of their impact in history. Like Excalibur, for example, which was once wielded by a famous S-rank human during the war with the demons. These legendary weapons are mostly offered as gifts to talented people in the kingdom who have made names for themselves.

And finally, the Sacred Treasures. These are weapons of the gods. Legend has it that in a time long before the world was created, the gods had a war with each other, and the sacred treasures were the weapons they used in their battle. The current sacred treasures are the ones left behind by the gods on earth, and they are now scattered with the hope of being found and wielded again. These weapons are very rare to find, and anyone who has one is set for life.

So that's it about the weapons in the world. And you can imagine how insane my powers are to be able to create a sacred weapon casually.

I brought out my one-handed heavy sword from the millions of collections of swords in my pocket dimension. The heavy sword is red in color, and the design of its handle has demon bat wings on it. Honestly, the heavy sword looks more like a demonic sword, but it is still a sacred treasure that I created with my Magic.

I call the sword heavy sword because of the weight. I made it to be as heavy as a medium size stone house.

As I looked at the distance, I began to see multiple darkness approaching at a very fast speed. When the darkness got close enough, I saw that it was all direwolves covered in black smoke. Their numbers were impressive.

"I can count at least five hundred of them. Lilia, what do we do?"

"Their number really isn't a problem for me. I can wipe them all out with a single spell if I want, but the problem is that it will damage the poor villagers' farmlands."

"So the old-fashioned way then." Dora got into her stance with her two fans in both of her hands.

Incidentally, Dora's outfit seamlessly blends traditional Japanese elegance with the practicality of a seasoned adventurer. Her kimono is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, made from fine silk adorned with intricate fox-themed embroidery. The base color is a rich crimson, symbolizing both passion and power.

The kimono's sleeves are gracefully elongated, allowing for fluid and precise movements in battle. Each cuff is detailed with delicate white fox fur, a nod to Dora's otherworldly nature. The obi, cinched tightly around her petite waist, displays a vibrant pattern of golden foxes intertwined with cherry blossoms, symbolizing beauty, rebirth, and the fleeting nature of life.

The lower part of the kimono gracefully sweeps the ground, and as Dora moves, the tails of the foxes on her attire seem to come alive, mimicking the motion of her nine magical tails. Beneath the kimono, Dora wears lightweight, flexible leggings that provide ease of movement during her adventurous escapades. The leggings are a deep shade of midnight blue, complementing the crimson of her kimono. Intricately detailed with enchanted runes, these leggings offer both protection and agility.

On her dainty feet, Dora dons traditional wooden sandals with fox-shaped embellishments, giving her a firm grip on any terrain she encounters in her travels. Around her neck, she wears an ornate fox-shaped pendant, a protective charm given to her by her late mother. The pendant emits a soft, ethereal glow, enhancing Dora's magical prowess during battles.

"Yeah. Let's cut them all down and leave none alive."

I picked up my heavy sword and jumped into the air in the direction of the direwolves.

Reaching their location in no time, I brought my sword down with me on a poor unlucky direwolf. The poor direwolf didn't even get the chance to scream before it was smashed into a paste by my heavy sword. The impact shook their entire field, and the small village, and the shockwave killed about ten direwolves.

Dora, not wanting to be left behind, blitzed her way to the approaching direwolves. As she reached them, she opened her fans and began to wave them, which sent sharp wind blades to the direwolves, cutting them in the process.

"The cold winter is one that runs through all creatures. Ice Spike."

Dora said her chant before stepping on the ground, which caused multiple ice spikes to come out from the ground and pierced into many of the direwolves.

Meanwhile, I was busy cutting the direwolves left and right with great speed. I was not even close to running at the same speed as that Lightning Eagle, but I was still quite fast.

I slashed my sword, which released wind blades that cut down many of the direwolves.

The direwolves, sensing that I was a big threat, began to rush to me with the intent to kill me. One of them jumped at me with its mouth opened, ready to bite me.

I ignored that direwolf because it just got crushed by my dense mana, which was leaking out from my body little by little.

I stabbed the heavy sword into the ground and spread both of my hands. The atmosphere seems to become heavy as the wind began to pick up.

Soon, a heavy wind generated and blew almost all the direwolves into the sky. As the direwolves, which were blown into the sky, began to fall, I raised my right hand and sent black lightning which covered half of the sky of the small village. The direwolves that were still falling were instantly vaporized.

The villagers who were spectating, couldn't believe what they were seeing.

"Is this the power of an A-rank? Truly, they are all god-like beings."

"She did that with a single spell? What power!"

"I almost peed my pants from seeing that attack."

"Those direwolves are finished this time."

And the villagers began to talk with themselves. Some of them were noticeably scared due to seeing the level of magic I could use, while some looked on in anticipation of what I will do next.

The remaining direwolves were all immediately slaughtered by Dora with her ice and fire spells.

Meanwhile, I picked up my heavy sword and saw Dora approaching me.

"That was some spell, Lili. That is an A-rank move, you know."

"That is why I used it. If I am going to say I'm an A-rank adventurer, I might as well limit my powers to that of A-rank."

Dora nodded her head after hearing my response. "Is the mission over?"

I shook my head. "I can sense two mana comparable to A-rank and B-rank adventurers heading this way at a fast speed."

Dora immediately took her battle stance. "Are they enemies or friends?"

"Their mana is quite evil, so I don't think they are friends. Looks like they are here already."

I looked up, which prompted Dora to do the same.

We saw two men of average height floating in the sky above us. One of them was buffed, and the other was thin. Both of them were dressed like typical adventurers, with the buff one holding a golden axe in his right hand. The only thing that differentiates these two from human beings is that these two have two horns on their head and big bat wings on their back.

'These two look exactly like humans with only the bat wings and horns making them different. So these are demons huh?'

I thought while staring at the two demons above us.

"This is bad, Lilia. That muscle demon over there is a Duke class demon. The other is a Count class demon."

Dora, who had sweat rolling down her forehead, said with slight fear. I was confused by what she means by Duke and Count.

"Is that a classification of the demons or something?"

"I keep forgetting that you lived in a faraway village. Listen up, demons are ranked into five classes. The General class, Duke Class, Count class, Baron Class, and Normal demons. The Generals are comparable to S-ranks, the Dukes are comparable to A-ranks, the Counts are comparable to B-ranks, the Barons are Comparable to C-ranks, and Normal demons are comparable to D-ranks."

Dora explained to me the ranking systems of the demons. What I am confused about is how a Duke rank demon made it into the human realm without anyone sensing his overwhelming presence.

"It doesn't matter what their rank is. They obviously came here with hostile intentions, and it is our job to stop them."

"I had a feeling you will say that, my sweet Lili. Well, I'm with you all the way."

I, along with Dora, stared at the two demons that were floating above us. I strongly held my heavy sword and prepared for anything the two demons may try. This will be my first time facing a demon in battle.
